First off, happy new year to all you lovely horror nuts! I Hope you had a good holiday season, whatever you got up to!

I thought it would be nice, and interesting, to have a kind of abstract discussion. I think it's always cool to hear the views of people on the mahoosive questions about life, the world and...stuff...like, yeah...man...cool.

*ahem*

Personally, I don't have a fucking clue. (Pardon my French but I feel emphasis was necessary). I'm very disturbed by how short, relative to the earth and life in general, my own life is bound to be. How can there be meaning, what can possibly be acheived by one person...especially someone like me?!

I suppose I'd agree loosely with the Hicksian philosophy that it's "Just a ride". We come from nothing, go back to nothing. But that spark of life, such a short spark, but a real spark nonetheless...that is the ride of life. But then, try telling that to someone born into poverty who will likely die there as well.

Anyway! Discuss, disagree, debate...what, if anything, is the meaning of life?

I think everyone needs to find their own meaning in life. Life can mean whatever you want it to. Anything from "just a ride", to self betterment, to the betterment of others, or anything else you care to make it.

Sure, in terms of eternity, we are all only here for a very brief time. But in terms of ourselves, we are here for a lifetime.

What is the meaning of life for me? I don't know if I am entirely sure. At least, I think it can and does change. At the moment, I think it is about self-fulfilment whilst at the same time having a positive effect on the lives of others. If I can do great things for myself whilst also doing great things for others, I think that will be meaningful. Happiness, sadness, and all other things are fragile and fleeting, but that doesn't make them any less meaningful when they are present.

Finding purpose and happiness in your time here is the conclusion I've come to over the years.

I agree-if we were immortal life would lose it's meaning. I also see life as an illusion (though pain and death are very real) in the sense that it is a transitional period. I find what lies beyond the veil between life and death just as interesting as here on earth.

I definitely agree that the meaning of life is selective for everyone and means different things for everyone. For me my meaning of life would be to do something helpful and creative with the world that would give my life meaning.

I know that if I could change someone's thoughts or beliefs in a positive way or prevent them from harm in some way that was pretty substantial I know that my life would definitely have meaning to it. And that is something that I would definitely be proud of. :D

Don't ask questions like that. You won't like the answers.

Honestly i don't think there is a meaning of life. Were here, we live the lives were given, we try to make the best of it. We make choices and mistakes. We die. I'm actually religious and believe in an after life but i dont think theres some divine purpose to why were here. Were judged based on our actions but in the end, i don't think were gonna find out that we were here for something or other or that we didnt accomplish what we should've. We just exist.

To evolve, to grow, on a daily basis, past yesterday's preconceptions.

We are meant to learn, create, and move up the evolutionary ladder. Now, just because I mention evolution doesn't mean that I don't think their is a higher power but I don't believe that higher power is the God that Christians talk about. I think that higher power is an energy, one that we all come from and go back to when we die so that we can share our experiences with that power. Ever felt like you've been somewhere or done something that you couldn't possibly have done (deja vu), that's because at some point in the past a part of you has. Of course this is all theory and I'm sure many of you will think I'm crazy.

I agree with everyone here.

However here's the truth. There is no meaning. It's all pointless. Hero or Villain, Good or Evil, Creative or destructive,Millionaire or Broke. We live, We die, in the end there is no real point.

The world will blow up, We will kill ourselves off, The human race is too greedy & self destructive. There is too many factors for us too fail. Religion being one of them. Despite all this,

Be creative, Be happy, Be positive, Treat everyone with respect, and Be constructive with life.

Well, technically I did, in a round-a-bout kinda way.

It's from a short film from fewdio.com. I posted a link to their youtube channel in the indie movies section. Some awesome horror short films on there.
