I read the Welcome To The Jungle title not bad. I'll read more of them when I get the chance.

And just curious but why didn't you put this in the comics forum? It's only like right above this one.

Yeah I have to agree the art in the Jungle was pretty good. I just read For Those About To Rock, that was pretty good and pretty funny also, ironic in the end to.

Keep up the good work.

Cool, man! Thanks for the kind words! :)

Most of the NIGHTMARE WORLD (http://www.nightmareworld.com) stories have surprise twist endings like that...

What can I say... it all harkens back to old EC Comics and "The Twilight Zone", baby!

Heh.

Actually, KNEE DEEP IN THE DEAD will be seeing print in the upcoming Steven Niles: TALES FROM THE INNER SANCTUM horror anthology that will be released in a few months! How's *THAT* for service? :D

That very same anthology will also feature two other stories -- a five-page prose sequel to YOU OUGHTA KNOW (one of my personal favorite stories) as well as a one-page story illustrated by Josh Ross titled WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE.

All of that aside, we're continuing to update the site with two new pages of story every Thursday, and hope to publish a collected "Best of..."-type TPB in the future...

In the meantime, enjoy the stories while they are still free and tell all your friends (and fiends) aboiut the site! :p

Used to read Creepy, Eerie and Tales from the Crypt.

It has been a long time since I read comics though. Are these even around anymore? Loved them at the time!

Probably Tales is still there........would like to find these again now that I think about it.

Thanks for all of the kind words, everyone... as well as for moving this thread to the proper forum! :o

NIGHTMARE WORLD is still going strong and will be for the foreseeable future... so fear not!

We're taking this week off just to relax (the first time in two years! ) but we're starting our next story next THursday on January 6th! That's plenty of time for all ya'll to get caught-up if you haven't read the stories... or at least been to the site recently. ;)

Oh... we also *FINALLY* got around to sort of doing a "Best Of..." anthology collecting three stories from the site as well as a new eight-pager written by me and illustrated by Josh Ross -- you can find out about it (and order a copy of your own) from the front page of the site! :D

Again, thanks for the kind words everyone! If you dig the work everyone is putting into the site feel free to spread the word to your friends!

Hey! Thanks for the props, Toonmom! Greatly appreciated! :)

The first two as in "Momma's Boy" and "You Oughta Know" or the first two listed at the top of the site? ("Sleep Now in the Fire" and "The Same Deep Water As You")

Eiether way, thanks for the nice comments! :)

By the way -- I live in Toledo as well! WHOA! What are the chances of that? :p

Drop me an e-mail some time -- we'll have to talk. ;)

P.S. -- By the way, our next story starts TOMORROW, Thursday January 6, 2005. It's the first part of another brand-new story -- one that's gonna feature A LOT of HUGE monsters... you have been warned... :D

I just read the next 3 - Run Like Hell, How Do you Sleep?, and Bitter Wine. I must say, I didn't care for those as much as the first 2. The art in all of them are great though and the stories have a Creepshow kind of feel to them (IMO), which I really like. I will continue until I have read them all.

One of the things I wanted to do with the series when I first started was make sure that every story was a totally different genre, while still sort of keepin' in a certain vein of story.

As a result you'll see everything from zombies to Cthulhu to video games to Sherlock Holmes to faries to Merrows to Elvira covered in one way or another... with even more fun stuff to come down the road! :p

Heck, we have a CAVEMAN story running in March!

Sorry -- I just get excited and babble too much. I'll shut-up now. ;)

Best wishes,
Aaron Weisbrod

P.S.-- If you pay close attention, come, say, tomorrow, you may see a certain character or two from "You Oughta Know" making return appearances since I love that particular story so much. lol In fact, I even did a prose sequal to it in the STEVE NILES PRESENTS: TALES FROM THE INNER SANCTUM #1 anthology!!! (Yes, THAT Steve Niles -- the 30 DAYS OF NIGHT guy. You can get the details about the book on the NIGHTMARE WORLD website by clicking the "Store" link at the top of the page. )

Really, really cool stuff, Aaron. Some (but not all) of the stories could use a little fleshing out, but the eight page format works a lot better than I would have expected. I'm not trying to rag on you, just to offer a little positive criticism. Being the Lovecraft fan that I am, I really enjoyed the comics with Mythos themes. Seriously, keep up the good work. Thank you both for your kind words. :)

I just finsihed proof-reading the NIGHTMARE WORLD Volume 2 (!!!) collection for the last time, and man, does it rock socks.

Don't get me wrong -- the first collection is rock friggin' solid -- but Volume 2? This one is pure magic. :D

Thirteen FULL-LENGTH stories (including a brand-new eight-pager, a completely redrawn version of "Bitter Wine" byMark Winters", and the Uber-Director's Cut of "The Thing That Should Not Be"), a cover gallery, a wrap-around cover, and an introduction by Jason (SWORD OF DRACULA) Henderson... all for under $13.

Good gravy... I think I just wet my pants a little. :o

We're also currently firming-up plans for the stories that will be in the third collection this winter... and things just keep getting better and better.

It's a good day. :p

Best wishes,
Aaron Weisbrod

Just finished reading them ALL over again, trying to decide which is my favourite. I gotta say No One Knows has to be the best, in my opinion...Break Stuff could be a runner up, or The Day I Tried to Live. There's No Room for you Here apeals to the massive superhero fan inside me, and the incredible ending of Mine definatly makes it a conteneder.....aw hell, I cant decide, they're all amazing!

I was really nervous about this story -- whether or not people would be "bummed" that there was no proper monster or supernatural element in it... but to me, that's what makes it all the more horrifying!

I really hope it doesnt fit in the obvious way (the whole thing is just episodes of the show). I must say...Id be disapointed.

We've had some doozies on the theories... feel free to post 'em at the official Message Board if you wish. ;)

There are some inexpensive reprints of old 1960s Ec Comics, like The Haunt of Fear & Tales From the Crypt

Also the original 30 Days of Night trade paperback (a compendium of the first story arc in this ever-expanding franchise) is a great place to start

Dirk Manning is back!!!

www.NightmareWorld.com (http://www.NightmareWorld.com) ran into some webhosting problems a while back that took us off-line for a few months... but we're back in effect, ya'll... and I don't want any of you to think I forgot about my old school peeps here.

I'm not afraid to say this... *sniff*... I missed you guys!

A lot has been shakin' with NIGHTMARE WORLD (http://www.NightmareWorld.com) since my last appearance here, including a new publishing deal with APE COMICS and... wait for it... a BRAND NEW GRAPHIC NOVEL THAT'S SET TO BE RELEASED ON HALLOWEEN DAY!!!

It's late, and I'm tired, but here's some details... as well as a peek at the cover... be sure to let me know what you think!

***

NIGHTMARE WORLD Volume 1: "The Long Hard Road Out of Hell" is now available for pre-order in PREVIEWS.

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k319/dirkmanning/hellcoverFINALweb.gif

The book is 144 booty-whuppin' pages and contains 13 NIGHTMARE WORLD stories (a majority of which have never been in print ANYWHERE), an introduction by Rex Mundi scribe Arvid Nelson, over 13 new never-before-seen-full color illustrations that introduce and "frame" the narrative of the stories and a massive sketchbook section (including character designs, script samples and more)... all topped-off with a gorgeous cover by Kristen Perry... and all for $19.95.

That's a helluva lot of horror goodness for less than a twenty-dollar bill, folks.

The book will is scheduled to be on shelves nationwide Halloween Day... BUT ONLY IF WE GET ENOUGHT PRE-ORDERS.

Remember, folks, I'm not working for Marvel or DC, and that means that MOST STORES WILL ONLY STOCK THIS BOOK IS YOU PRE-ORDER IT FROM THEM. That doesn't mean you'll have to pay for it upfront -- you won't have to do that until the book comes in -- but we need to hit a certain pre-order minimum in order to ensure my publisher that we can send the book to press.

After all, printing full-color graphic novels ain't exactly cheap, you know?

So -- that's where things stand now. Contact your local comicbook shop and ask them to PRE-ORDER you a copy of NIGHTMARE WORLD Volume 1. It's on Page 230 of PREVIEWS and the ORDER CODE is AUG07-3372.

To say I've poured my life and soul into this book -- especially considering everything that's been going on behind the scenes in my life this past year -- would be an understatement... so I'm now putting everything in all of your capable hands...

If this book is successful we can move forward with more volumes... hopefully eventually completing the whole 52 story sage in four neat graphic novels... let's make that happen.

Onwards. ONWARDS!!!

SINcerely,
Dirk Manning

Hey man!!!

I just wanted to spill a few quick beans here for ya':

1) "No One Knows" plays a HUGE part in the "big story" going on behind the scenes.... and stories #51 and #52 (the final two stories of the series) will show just how much. Rest assured, though, that these various stories aren't all just TV shows... far from it. ;)

2) When the website temporarily went ka-blooee Josh Ross, Austin McKinley, Jim Reddington and I took a hiatus from TALES OF MR. RHEE... but we're now gearing back towards getting that series back on track, too. Plan on seeing the adventures of Mr. Rhee continuing by October... if not sooner... and rest assured... RHEE will just keep getting better and better!

The link is HERE (http://www.shadowlinecomics.com/webcomics/#/nightmareworld).

Well, I'm uber-pleased to announce that due to the overwhelming success of the series that they're now also taking us to print!

NIGHTMARE WORLD: "13 Tales of Terror" Vol. 1 will be hitting shelves nationwide in October and is now available for pre-order through Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1607061562/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_dp) for under $11 (that's 33% off cover price!) or, if you act fast, Discount Comic Book Service (http://dcbservice.com/search.aspx?search=nightmare%20world) for $7.99 (that's 50% off cover price!).

We finally made it to the big-time, folks... and I thank old-school fans like all of you for helping to make that happen.

Now, if you're new to the series I also encourage you to check it out at the link above. It's free, we have 25 stories and over 220 pages of content already online for free and we update a page a day ever Monday through Thursday without fail.

Check it out, let us know your thoughts and, most importantly, pre-order a copy if you like what you see.

Thanks all!

I hope all is going well and I look forward to hearing your thoughts about the series soon!

SINcerely,
Dirk Manning

Thanks, TypH!

I'm pleased to announce here (for the first time ANYWHERE!) that Kristen Simon is also providing the two-part cover to NIGHTMARE WORLD Volume Two: "Leave the Light On" that is being released by Image Comics/Shadowline this October!

It's a little too early to show it off quite yet... but rest assured, it's even creepier than the cover of Volume One!

I hope you're all still diggin' NIGHTMARE WORLD (http://www.NightmareWorld.com) online, too. We've added several new stories to the mix since joining Image Comics... so if you haven't swung by in a while (or ever, for that matter) now is the perfect time to do so!

Thanks, all! Be sure to let us know what you think!

SINcerely,
Dirk Manning
