The sequel is going to be called The Devils Rejects and here's the latest news on it:

The Devil's Rejects

The story centers on a band of bounty hunters led by Sheriff Wydell's brother who is fueled by revenge when he finds out that his kin was slain by the Firefly family. It'll pick up shortly after the first with the family going on the road after their house is burned down and a few family members have been gunned down during a police raid.

LATEST NEWS

5/15/04
William Forsythe has been added the the cast. He'll be playing Sherrif John Wydell, who is the brother of Lt. George Wydell (Tom Towles) from the first film. In this movie Wydell seeks revenge and hunts down the family of murderers with bounty hunters. Director Rob Zombie was quoted saying... "I was thrilled when William signed onto the film. He has exactly the heavy, menacing presence needed to make Sheriff Wydell more than a match for Otis, Spaulding and Baby."

5/13/04
In the midst of all these casting news you'd think that all the original actors have pretty much been signed and dealt with, but according to the official Karen Black site, the star wont be appearing in the film. Whaaat?... Ms. Firefly herself wont be in the film? Well the site reports that "negotiations didn’t work out". Could this mean that Rob will have to recast a dif. actress, much like they did with the Rufus Firefly character? Ah, only time will tell, but you'd think that word from Rob's assistant would've been spread by now. Then again this could be just an old rumor that I never picked up on (quite possible)... Hmm..

5/11/04
The casting updates just keep on coming. This time its been reported that Danny Trejo has been cast as a part of a due bounty hunter team called "The Unholy Two." Apparently the Sheriff Wydell character hires the hunters to track down The Firefly Clan now on the run that their house has been burned to the ground.

5/10/04
Tyler Mane (Sabertooth from X-Men) has joined the cast to replace Robert Mukes in the role of Rufus Firefly.

5/06/04
Steve Railsback has been added to the cast playing a sheriff.

4/29/04
DDP reports that wrestler Diamond Dallas Page will have a role in the film.

4/28/04
PJ Soles (Halloween, Carrie) has been signed to have a role in the flick. She'll play a woman with her son, who gets carjacked by Capt. Spaulding.

4/23/04
It seems that Kane Hodder has recently signed onto the project as the stunt cordinator. I'm sure you all remember him best as the man behind the notorious hockey mask in many of the F13 films.

4/19/04
CC reports that Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead) and Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes) will have roles in the film. Foree will play Captain Spaulding's Pimp brother and Berryman will play the Pimp's "dim-witted sidekick".

3/11/04
CC posted an article where director Rob Zombie talks about the title change and gives details on the movie. Apparently Zombie wanted to drop and reference to the first film -- giving it the Devil's Rejects title. He was quoted saying... "That was always the title, I just didn't want to announce too early. Once a day someone would come up to me, as if I haven't heard this before, and say, "Hey, how about 'House of 2000 Corpses'!" I needed to put that to rest."

He then went on to talk about how the movie will have a very different tone to the first film... "It's its own movie, it needs its own title. 'Bride of Frankenstein' sounds cool, but if that film was called 'Frankenstein 2' it'd be like, what the fuck is that about? Studios don't like to give people credit but I think everyone who goes to see it will figure out its the sequel. It doesn't need to be called 'House of 1000 Corpses 2.' It'll be pretty obvious. It's a very different film and one that I want to stand on its own. Like if you didn't see the first film, it doesn't matter. But if you did see it you'll recognize all sorts of stuff [in 'Rejects']. It has to be able to stand on its own though."

3/02/04
Well despite the fact I emailed her many months ago and failed to get a response, Rob Zombie's assistant apparently gave Creature Corner the heads up on the new title and a brief plot for the film. The new name is said to be the nickname the media in the film have given the crazy family.

1/12/03
Well its been revealed that shooting starts in late April with an estimated October release.

12/31/03
Rob Zombie briefly talked with MTV about the film and was quoted saying... "It's a very different film. It's much darker and more serious. It's a gritty crime movie like [the 1973 Terrence Malick film] 'Badlands'. There's nothing campy or wacky at all. Everything that was alluded to in 'Corpses' has been found out in the house...the house is raided by a SWAT team, and it all goes bad from there." Also it was mentioned that pre-production was going to begin soon and a Summer release is targeted. I already reported that earlier in the month, but got conflicted when a spring shooting schedule and a possible Halloween release was revealed. So at this point it's either Summer or Halloween for this film.

12/13/03
Director Rob Zombie talked with Rolling Stone magazine recently about the film saying... "It's not going to be 'House of 1,000 Corpses II' or anything like that...I wanted to so something like Star Wars, where you have that first film and then you have The Empire Strikes Back. You get a totally different thing. It's truly the sequel to the movie, but it's a continuation of the story, not just the same story again." Also in the article it states that casting is next and shooting for the film begins in the Spring, which means a Summer release is unlikely, but expect a possible Halloween release.

12/06/03
Pre-Production is beginning soon, with a Summer '04 release targeted. Also Coming Soon! reported that the film went under a title change.

10/21/03
The script for the film has recently been completed and he was quoted saying... "For horror movies, what is usually the downfall is when you have evil characters returning. They tend to get more loveable with each return until they're not scary at all. I love Captain Spaulding, I think he's a great character, but if he continues on that direction then he'll be this guy with funny one liners. I want to turn everything in the opposite direction and make him a much meaner, more unlikeable character, as with everybody else."

N/A Date
Zombie was quoted saying... "I think now is the only time to do a sequel...Myself and the cast are still in the right 'Corpse' mindset. To come back to this years later wouldn't work — the vibe would be gone...In the past 'sequel' was a dirty word but now sequels are for the most part bigger and better than the original. I don't want to retread the same story but take the returning characters on a strange new journey."

House of 1000 Corpses is one hell of a good movie. I'm a complete horror fanatic. That movie may not have had many good reviews but then again the critics hardly ever know a good movie when they see one. I can't wait for it to come out.

Well it depends on how you look at it. Some like it others don't. It can be counted as the greatest horror movie of all time or it isn't, in my opinion it is!

Yeah, greatest of alllll timme . . .

But I did like the first one, even if it was just for the stylized prettiness. I'd watch a sequel, definately. I don't know if I'd spend money to watch it in a theater, though. Might wait until it comes out on the boob-tube.

wait aminute here, they cant replace rufus, i hate it when you have a movie played by one dude then the sequel comes out and the same person is played by another dude, just like on t-3 no eddie furlong, AND the batman movies, hell had a diffrent batman every sequel, anyways, i dunno, just think it takes away from the effect of even making a part 2 if you are goin to give diffrent people the same roles

I loved the first movie but I'm seriously doubting the second will be that good. Don't get me wrong, I have high hopes...the plot they're going for just sounds more gory action...not horror.
