Did anyone else waste their time on this one? I've been a huge fan of the comic books for the past 15 years, but this movie was so damn stupid I don't know if I can ever look at one of my favorite comic characters in the same light again.
Problem number 1, they picked the wrong guy for the part. The dude from Deep Blue Sea? Come on. I don't see him as a tough ass vigilante at all.
Problem number 2, way too much sappy shit. The period of The Punisher's life that he had a family is told (in the comic books) through brief flashbacks and dialogue. You don't really ever see him, with his wife and kid as a big happy family. For some reason they saw fit to fill the first third of the film with sappy ass shit. I almost walked out.
Problem number 3, not only did they misuse the storylines in the film, they completely ruined them for future films. The people that live in his apartment complex (Joan, Dave, and Bumpo) are all key elements to an awesome storyline. (In the comics.) They didn't hardly do anything with this story except take a few characters from it and make them stupid. But the result is that they can't use them (in a future film with a good director) even if they wanted to.
The action was mediocre at best. And for a Punisher movie that's totally unacceptable. The scene where he fought The Russian was the only part of the whole film that I enjoyed.
All in all, I would give this 1 star out of 10. Don't waste your time in the theatre. Don't bother renting it when it comes out. Go get the older Dolph Lundgren version, it's a lot better. (And I would only give that one like 3 and a half stars out of 10, but still, it's much better.)
