Just when you thought the remake mill had churned its way through every conceivable property, a news story comes along to remind you that there's still plenty to plunder.

Yup, producer Neal Moritz has decided that Starship Troopers is due a remake, having ordered a script from Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class).

Moritz is also behind the remake of Total Recall, another of Verhoeven's culty sci-fis.

Will Troopers be stripped of its political vitriol and OTT violence by a sanitised remake? It's only guesswork at the moment, but it's safest to presume the worst when it comes to remakes.

There's no word on an intended release date yet.

What the heck? The gap between old & new is narrowing by the year.

As for the remake itself, HOW can you improve on the original??? It's simply awesome.

These remakes are depressing. I'm convinced big film studios are 99% business, 1% creativity. Long live foreign and independent film.

And yet, people will still pay money to watch them.

Maybe make to closer to source material. That was the complaint from a lot of Heinlein fans when it came out..

I would actually like to see that happen if it's going to get remade. It has a much darker satire than the film. Don't get me wrong I dig Verhoven's film a lot but I can see the merits of it being sticking closer to the source for a remake.
