Is there any reason why you're afraid of the dark or is it one of those unexplainable things?

Well kinda long story, but when I was 18 I started losing my eyesight and had kind of a stroke like episode. They thought I had a brain tumor, but tests showed it wasn't. Ended up losing a circle of sight in my central vision in the right eye. Now I am super sensitive about anything impairing my vision, and am really paranoid about going blind. The dark is a reminder of this.
Can't tell any of this by looking at me though My eye looks normal.
Weird other theory... I looked directly into an eclipse in 1979, and my optomotrist thinks the damage occurred from that. A perfect circle. No one knows for sure, could have even been a stroke as I said, lost my speech for 8 hrs that day.
Anyway, my life is a soap! Boy could I tell you some shit!

OK, now it all makes sense... Perfectly understandable... Though I still feel too comfortable in the dark.
About your lil soap... Now you made me curious... You should CERTAINLY tell me some shit! Feel free to PM about it if you're not comfortable with saying it out loud here... LoL

Well I'm an open book, had a rough life early on.
Now all is quite mellow.
Been through some major abuse with a guy. Had my nose broken, and have a nice scar as a reminder on the back of my head. Had a lot of bad family stuff happen, worked as a tarot card reader, manager of a major cosmetics line in a department store, was a hairstylist, worked in childcare after for a long time, ended up landing a job as a director of a child care centre thanks to some grateful parents, after my boss got outed. Also sang in a my brother's band, and was a Theatre major in University, also taking religious studies and psychology.
Lived with my grandparents until at least 7 or 8, and my God parents are Bachmans. Cousins of Randy Bachman Re: Bachman Turner Overdrive or Guess Who.
Yeah I am a freak! This is my life!

Just been through it all. Horror to me is an escape from the real stuff. Some of the thingsI have been through have been worse than any horror movie there is. Absolute terror at times. But like I said , my life is good now and has been for a long time. Now I just want to laugh!
I have to sleep too, 5:30 am comes too soon, and it is already almost 11:00pm torturing myself again! Oh well, Have a great sleep friend!

wowe nine. you've been through some bizarre stufff, from all ends of the spectrum! but the important thing, like you said, is your still here, have learned a lot and now are living pretty happily from what it sounds! good for you! so many people would spend the rest of their lives moping!
as for the dark, im a bit scared of it too. not as much as before but id much rather havea light on than none.
of course at night no lights at all and NO noise. ugh ive become so sensitive to those things the past few years its annoying. very hard to fall asleep
nine9
05-10-2004, 08:12 PM
Life is too short To mope! Can definately not sleep with any noise, at least when I am just trying to sleep. Like it semi dark with some light so I know I still have my vision!
Good night Fluffho, hope your computer is still working in the morning!
Talk to all of you in the morning, here anyway...

But anyways this movie is about this little kid who freaks out because he has night terrors. The lights have to be on 24/7 in order for him to feel comfortable. At the same time the kid is left alone with his big brother, who is the typical smart ass big brother. Of course on this night of course there is a terrible storm and the power shuts off, therefore the little tike just about shits himself. When in the dark he encounters tall Al Jourgenson like monsters who wil stomp you like cheesecake supposedly. But anyway it turns out that these things live off fear. So everybody copes with the so called "monsters," and ya you get the idea.

nine9...
Suggestion - desensetise yourself to the dark, just deal with it first for like y'know just a few minutes, maybe with yknow, a light on outside and the door all but shut...then a few more minutes every day, door shut further and further over nightly.
Not only will you eventually get cooler with it, but you'll find your eyes will adjust and be able to more or less see in the dark after more than a few minutes exposure.
And hey...it's not like you don't wanna get over the shit, right?
nine9
05-11-2004, 04:18 AM
I only don't like pitch black dark. I'm ok with dark with a little light. Yes I want to get over it, because people do go blind sometimes or get stuck in dark places, and I would like to keep my sanity in this case, or still have a great life no matter what. So thanks Cheeba!
On the movie, well I guess this would be a good one for me! I don't think I've ever seen it. Something to creep ME out for sure!

That's always good to hear, you know... Now, for horror being an escape... I can so totally understand that! Some friends of mine think it's weird, but... Well, it just works well for me! :0)

Haven't seen the movie but it seems this thread turned into a topic about the dark. I feel for nine9(nice play on words there), I had a rough past also with abuse at school and home and I know of hitting lows of lows. Anyways, it sucks about your right eye, I hope one day it gets better. for some reason I am also afraid of the dark even I am a horror movie freak and can watch any movie in the dark but once it's completely dark the fear sets in big time. Can't really explain, I just know I'm afaid of it for some reason.

Just sitting around on a boring TV night, anyway thanks for what you wrote. No my eye has permanent retina damage and can't be fixed, but you can't tell. Anyway you get used to it, but at first I felt all disoriented getting used to mostly monocular vision [like some drug thing!].
As I said it is only pitch black that freaks me out, and I absolutely panic if I can't see for any length of time. Anyway, this all happened a long time ago now.
Sorry about the shit that YOU went through! Hey I really understand. It's all about what you end up making of your life after. I was kind of popular at school, but because I was nice to people not because I was a HEATHERS kinda girl.
I bet you are doing great anyway despite it all! My life now is good! Good job, great husband, pets and friends, including a lot of people I met on the forum! Fuck all the assholes who try to mess us up anyway, They mean a whole shitload of nothing.
Nice to meet you!:D

Hey no prob, I know how you feel. Sometimes I'll just meet people and start rambling on about myself, then afterwards be like "wtf was I thinking?" lol. No worries though! Sometimes it's good to just talk.
My weekend was pretty good. Friday I went to this Oriental buffet and ate mounds of food.. damn that stuff was good. Yesterday I worked outside a good part of the day, then worked on assembling my gf's computer. Today I slept in late, then finished the computer (I'm using it right now :p She's sleeping lol. THE POWER!!!!) It's pretty damn fast...
That was about it. Tomorrow after class (in college) gunna head over to Seaworld and apply for a summer job! WOOT!
See and here I go rambling on about crap :p
How was yours? :D

Yes I am the queen of diverting threads. Will try not to anymore. BAD BLONDE!!slap slap! LOL!
So lucky if you get to work in Seaworld! You have got to talk about it later if you do!
I love the Aquarium in B.C would quit my job now to work there!
Good luck! Sure you will get in!

05-16-2004, 06:02 PM
Well, as you can see from just about EVERY OTHER thread, no one particularly cares if you divert. Happens all the time :p
Hopefully I'll make it, but I doubt I'll have any exciting stories. I'll probably be working as one of those ground cleanup guys, and just walk around the park cleaning shit up... But oh well, as a college student they pay for a lot of tuition, plus they pay like $10-$12 starting wage. Minimum wage here in CA is $6.75 I believe? So it's pretty damn good.
I wish I could have had a lazy weekend, but there's always something to do!

I thought that maybe you had a chance to get your full eyesight back, that really fucking sucks. I hope your not completely blind in that eye so you can still enjoy a great horror flick every now and then. ;) :D
I've tryed and tryed to get over my past but I haven't really gotten over the past, it was just way to much for me, soon it won't matter though.
Also, I have noticed that there are quite a few pricks at this board and I've learned very quickly which ones they are. A few times I could've argued with them and god damn am I known for arguing, lol, but I figure there just rotten apples on the horror.com apple tree and I'll let them fight with each other before I get involved.

Trust me you do get over shitty things! My life has been real horror at times but the farther away it all gets the less it affects you. I'm sure a lot of people care about you. That one line you said bothered me though. Hope I read it the wrong way bud.
Anyway, I don't want to bore people anymore with my little life. I'm sure everyone has a good story!
People on this forum are mostly great. Some will bait you at first, but in less you are the type to majorly piss people off, it's only for a laugh. Yes, it is easy to figure out to avoid. Lucky you never had Darth Bane stalking your posts. Total freak!
