Surfer Nazis Must Die / A Clockwork Orange

I've been watching Clockwork forever and it's one of my favorite films of all time. I watched Surfer Nazis lastnight and couldn't help but get the feeling that it was like a cheaper knockoff of Clockwork?

I thoroughly enjoyed Surfer Nazis as it had me laughing with all the 80's cheeziness. Some of the music sounded the same as Clockwork, and the hats/attire that some of the main characters wore looked like it was taken from Clockwork.

Anyone else feel the same way about the similarites?

Honestly, I was kinda shocked that I found any similarites between the two films...

The mad guys from Killer's Moon reminded me alot of the Droogs - the way they dressed and talked to easch other..

The home invasion in Romper Stomper was definally influenced by the one in Clockwork Orange.

I never put the two together, Romper Stomper and A Clockwork Orange until you just mentioned it...I feel kinda silly too as I have watched both of them 10+ times.

I know this isn't really the thread to ask but I've always been curious since the first time I watched Romper Stomper...In Australia is the racial tension mostly between the whites and asians? In the states it seems most of the racial tension comes from aryan rednecks who have a problem with mostly blacks, hispanics, and middle eastern people. I watch a lot of documentaries about the white power movement(its a morbid fascination, I have the same thing with prison documentaries) but I'm no expert and found it a bit odd the skins in Aus seemed more worried about asians than anything else...Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt in my mind that an american redneck skin or kkk member would beat up an asian just for kicks but it doesn't seem to me that they are a priority.

Just for the record, I am a skinhead punk. I shave my head every 3 days but I am not racist in any way. I wear docs and resemble what one may consider a a "racist" skin but I am far from it. For those of you not to familiar with the punk scene skins didn't always have the racist stigma. Skins were a big part of the hardcore scene in the early 80's and it had nothing to do with race, the faggot ass neo-nazis stole the style and ruined it for the rest of us...If you wanna trace the roots of skins it goes all the way back to the 60's...Working class English kids(black and white) shaved their heads and listened to ska...

Once again, I know this is the wrong place for this but I ask 1 simple favor of everyone...Don't judge instantly when you see a skin...I've been jumped over my look twice but as far as I know I have never even met a neo-nazi...Were I live a minority is in much more in danger of drunken rednecks in overly large trucks, "Good Ole Boys"....Barf....

There was a good film that came from Britain a few years back called This Is England, which was about British skinhead culture in the early-80's (which is when it's set) and how it changed from the anti-racist (or at least apolitical) skinheads of the 60's and the rise of the racist and Neo-Nazi skinheads in the 1980's.

Here in Britain there's currently a big issue in Islamaphobia. With the British empire came a lot of post-war immigration to Britain from across the world including territories in South Asia (Pakistan, Bangladesh etc.) Not to mention other major events which lead to further immigration to Britain (The Iranian Reovlution, The Gulf War) and it's scary to me that the current wave of intolerance seems to be becoming incresingly mainstream (certainly some of the newspapers don't seem to be helping...)

This Is England was really good. The follow up TV series looked quite good too from the couple of episodes I caught.

I am not above admitting that I maybe nieve or just plain ignorant but I was under the impression the EDL did not support racism but were simply against militant/terrorist/extremist Islamic types. Personally I am against any extremist religious beliefs, I don't care if its an extremist muslim or the Westboro Baptist Church fuckers that make me embarrased to be from Kansas. I in no way mean I am against any religion, I am just against violence and hatred in the name of any god.

As Elvis mentioned the racist Skinhead movements are basically anti-immigration and the biggest group coming in the country are Asian (well not counting the Brits back in Colonial times :-)

The same goes in England. During the Hard core rights haydays, though they did hate Blacks their main target were thought from Pakistan (as well as India and Bangladesh). I think this has shifted alittle in modenr times to include Muslims too.

Ironically, I come from a Country that claimed to have absolutley no racism at all. Strangely enough this coincided with the fact we had almost no immigration either. The Irish are actually better know as immigrants themselves. But all these changed when Ireland economy boomed (back in the olden days..lol) and we actually got people with skin darker than out bluish-white complication back looking for jobs in our country. The tune certainly changed and the racism came out of the woodwork.

Despite all this a neo-nazi skinhead scene never really got of the ground - this was mostly due to a very healthy, hardcore AFA encouraging skins that they gigs would be better cancelled and that Skrewdriver tshirts aren't a good fashion choice. There does seem to be a small but dedicated Trad Skin head scene though. Myself as well as many others here believe in a 'No Platform for Fascists'

EDL might say they are 'not racist' but I bet those buys still share pints and views with members of the BNP, NF and COmbat18.

The EDL disturbs me a great deal.

The claim to be against Islamic extremism (and in a way they are) but whenever they're mentioned, it's almost always to do with muslims as an entire group (not just the small extremist minority) and have often been seen as just out and out racist (and I mean literally giving Nazi salutes)

Personally, I have no real problem with immigration of any race, nationality or religion and the idea that we're being invaded by extremist Islammis extremely naive and short sighted, especially as, other than looking for work, the majority were fleeing the kind of persecution that they're often accused of supporting.

Islam is in many ways as ideologically diverse as Christianity (they even share the same history as Abrahamic faiths. Jesus is considered a prominent and good figure in Islam) so I hope the EDL leave the good, decent moderate Muslims (and anyone of any ethic minority) alone.

I don't understand how "British" means "White" or even "Non-Muslim" (other than the possible argument that Britain is technically a Christian country, given the Queen's position in the Church Of England. Even then, as an agnostic, does that mean I'm not British?)

Britain's entire culture, history and economy is at least in part built in immigration. Whether that includes us travelling the world and setting up colonies (Canada, Australia, New Zealand) or others coming to us. We set up an international empire. What the hell did people think was going to happen!?

Exactly there were a lot of things that just didn't make any sense but even on its own merits the story was poor as was the script.

I think this is more to do with when Romper Stomper was made.

In the 70's it was the southern Europeans that were the main focus of attention - they got called "wogs" at school.

Asian immigration stepped up in the 80's and 90's (although Australia has had immigrants from Asia since the 1800's and the Gold Rush times). So focus for slurs tended to shift away from the southern Europeans to the Asian population. This was the era in which Romper Stomper was made.

These days Australia still hosts a large Asian population, but I think they are more accepted now. So I don't think the things depicted in Romper Stomper are as relevant these days as they were in the early 90's.

i loved this is england movie, the tv series i thought was good not as good as the movie but i liked it. i think shane meadows is a great director the series lost its way in places but i enjoyed it, could have done with more loughs in it i thought.

Do you mean Small Time?-I actually liked it but some people don't so its a risky watch-I also haven't seen A Room For Romeo Brass-I should have really so I will at some point.
