John Pogue - who made his directorial debut on Sony's direct-to-disc Quarantine 2: Terminal - is now set to direct Hammer Films' The Quiet Ones for Exclusive Media Group.

Also penned by Pogue, the film is based on a supposedly true story about a team of Cambridge academics in the 1970's who record their investigation as they attempt to exorcise a poltergeist from a young girl.

An offer has been made to Nicolas Cage for the lead role of "Joseph", leader of a project known as "Gesit" (a German word for mind, spirit, or ghost, covering the semantic field of these three English nouns).

Antti Jokinen was originally attached to direct.

Hammer Films announced today that it begins principal photography on The Quiet Ones, the supernatural thriller/horror which will shoot on location in Oxfordshire.

Starring Jared Harris (Mad Men) and Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman), The Quiet Ones will be directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2: Terminal).

Joining the cast are Erin Richards (Being Human), Olivia Cooke and West End theater actor Rory Fleck-Byrne. With the story and original screenplay by Tom DeVille, revisions by Craig Rosenberg, Oren Moverman and most recently John Pogue, the film is produced by James Gay-Rees (Exit Through The Gift Shop) and Ben Holden in association with TPSC Films.

Inspired by true events, The Quiet Ones tells the story of an unorthodox, but charismatic Professor (Harris) who uses controversial methods and leads his best students off the grid to take part in a dangerous experiment: to create a poltergeist from negative human energy.
