View Full Version : Random Question - Anyone here been to Vietnam?

We're sort of planning a trip for next March/April (and I only say "sorta" because it's contingent on my boyfriend's company sending him to China - Which most likely will, but may not happen) - I'm pretty excited; it seems to have what I look for in a vacation - History, culture, great food, beaches, temples, and mountains...
We're thinking it'll be a two-week trip with two main destinations, one probably around Hanoi and one probably around Ho Chi Minh - I was just wondering if anyone has been and has any recommendations - I'm excited but overwhelmed at the same time as I'm doing preliminary research...
I'm definitely looking for an affordable beach-front stay for most of the trip, that is close by to cities, markets, etc.
Thanks for your help, in advance!

Sadly, it wasn't a joke. One of my teachers and one of my friends father had the pleasure.

Okay, I see the ignore function has to be engaged again. That's unfortunate.

Can't recommend it at all. Bad experience there.
I remember waking up in a Saigon hotel room with the worst hangover ever...Saigon, SHIT!!.
Then I was dragged to a job brief that I really didn't want. One of the company men had gone out on his own and I had to terminate his employment. A lot harder than it sounds. He set up on his own using cheap local labour - something frowned upon by the company of course.

So I should be ignored because two people I know were POWs during Vietnam?
Would you ignore somebody who knew holocaust survivors? Maybe I should just be ignoring you.

So I knew it was SOME kind of reference, but it's been so long since I've seen Apocalypse Now.
I like the juxtaposition of Apocalypse Now and The Hangover that I've just created, though - I'm pretty sure I just lost a couple of braincells with that...

That one actually got past me. Damn good.
Something about "Saigon, SHIT!" made me think, but I failed to put it together. I even missed the obvious reference to "the company." Nicely played.
Great film once you've seen it a dozen times and figure out what everything is about.
