Interesting forum so far.

I'm mostly a fan of classic horror, Universal 1930s and Hammer 1960s.

While not up there with any of the non sequel films (Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein, etc.) it is certainly better than other multiple monster films and sequels such as House of Dracula (1945) which is probably the worst. In some ways it manages to stand on it's own much like Bride of Frankenstein and avoid the pitfalls of later "monster meets monster" attempts. Everything after this film, except for The Wolf Man, seemed to be downhill.

Perhaps most importantly it still has that early Universal horror feel and is closer in atmosphere to the early Carl Laemmle Jr. films. The same atmosphere and feel can even be observed in non monster films of Laemmle Jr. such as All Quiet on the Western Front (1930). Having grown up on such films watching Creature Feature as a kid they are of course my favorites.

Thank God for the Legacy DVD collection. That DVD set was the only good thing about that Van Helsing craptastrophe. Besides Kate Beckensale of course.

Hard to be that potent combination of vampires, corseted D cups and Gothic atmosphere. Not to mention Hammer inventing much of what is now established vampire lore.
