On Sunday I'm going to the mummy exhibit at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. I'm so jazzed for this, I've always been interested in ancient Egypt and mummies. I know no one probably gives a shit, but I'm very excited about this and wanted to share. If I'm able to take pictures (which I probably won't) I'll post them.

Anybody else have plans for the weekend?

Sounds great. Hope you have a good time, Marge.

I will be spending the weekend at home with a would-be Mummy, if that counts.

Awesome! Hope you enjoy it. Last time I was at an exhibit, turns out, there were a lot of interesting pieces of information and large amounts of history attached to each piece.

Though I generally didn't give a crap. All I wanted was mummies :P .

Anyway, can't wait to see the pics :D

Sounds like a great exhibit.

I remember when I was about 7 years old, visiting the Vatican museum. They had quite an extensive exhibit of ancient Egyptian artefacts, including a number of mummies.

Anyway, one of the mummies was presented partially unwrapped, and very well preserved. It totally freaked out my tender mind - had nightmares about that! :D Still remember it quite clearly.

The last time I was at The Franklin Institute they had a Star Wars exhibit, with all the costumes and droids and stuff like that. It was very cool....but you couldn't take pictures. I'm really hoping I can take pictures this time. Here's the link for it:

I didn't know mummies were copyrighted. ;)

Most museums have a no pix policy- they want you to buy the official ones.

I hope the exhibitions were good. A new museum is opening here in Liverpool so I'm hoping for some ancient egyptian exhibits when I get round to checking it out.

It was amazing. They not only had human mummies, but also animal mummies. Did you know the ancient Egyptians would sacrifice dogs to Anubis? They also sacrificed cats, but they didn't say what god. As I thought, I was not able to take pictures.

I love ancient Egyptian stuff - real and mythological. Such an interesting culture. Take loads of photos! Are the mummies the natural sand preserved kind or the fully embalmed? I assume the latter - if so, tell us who they are! I'd love to have some research material to occupy my Wikipedia time :p

That sucks about the pictures. I'm gonna have to check out an exhibit like that some day. Weren't some animals mummified and buried with people?
