After watching zombies, werewolves and especially vampires take over the scare territory in recent years, it would seem that robots are well and truly ready to fight back, re-establish their dominance and kill all humans.
Yes, with Steven Spielberg and others already knocking together tales of machines rising and making trouble for the human race, there’s yet another story of destructive droids in development, with 24 writer/producer Howard Gordon and Final Destination co-writer/director James Wong plotting 2084.
The title refers to Gregg Rosenblum’s planned young adult book series, which is set in that very year and finds the robots that mankind developed to help us all now very much in charge.
Apparently, the plan is for the filmmakers to crank up the script and get the movie made while also collaborating with Rosenblum on future novels in the series.
Alloy Entertainment is providing the backing, and is no doubt hoping that this’ll lead to a franchise.
But can it survive in a world where half the movies in development seem to be about rogue robots?
