View Full Version : The Movie Creatures/Monsters Tournament

We have had 2-3 versions of this before, but almost all of them focused on films from the 90s and 2000s. With so many classic horror films and giant-monster films of the vintage era (30s, 40s, 50s), it was always a glaring injustice to them when they got excluded.
Not to mention the biggest name of them all - Ray Harryhausen, who literally brought the giant monsters invading into our screens.
This time, I am hoping to bring all of them together in the same space, and see which one actually dominates and rules all of them in movie history.
This will also be a part ode to the genius of Harryhausen, so expect to see a lot of him, classic monsters and the rampagers from Japan from the classic/golden era.
Could it be Godzilla? Or King Kong? The Rhedosaurus?
Maybe the Giant Ants from Them? The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms?
Or The Queen Alien? Harryhausen's Kraken or Medusa, maybe?
Mothra? The Blob? The Thing?
You shall decide.
I have a long list of recs ready. Apart from the usual, if you want one of your unsung favorite monster/creature in this, go ahead and post.
This will start later in the day.

For tourney purposes, I was thinking of limiting the number to 243. My list right now has gone up to 256 so it might need some trimming. Or, if we get more good recs, we might need to stretch the number and have a qualifying round. Let's see.

but like NE....The Amazing Colossal Man was one of the first sci-fi that had an impact on me.

Perhaps the greatest horror creature in literary history - Cthulhu.
You really need to see The Call Of Cthulhu, if you haven't already.
A short film made in 2007 which is around 45-odd minutes long, shot in intense black and white as a silent film, and has a tremendous Symphonic score. And above all, the most faithful Lovecraft adaptation ever made.

Oooh...toughy. I LOVE the Kraken, he's definitely more frightening (can't help but think of it any time I go on a boat) but at the same time...I love my Ghostbuster dogs. Childhood memories are evoked just by looking at them!

The Rat Bat Spider....just for its beautifully bizarre concept! Love this idea. But I think it'd be more creepy if it comes in a far more smaller size rather than a giant which can easily prey on humans.
