This is frustrating!!

It's been almost 36 hours they disabled my facebook account! The last Thursday night when I tried to log in then at first I thought I did an error to write down the passward properly. But then I notice the title just above my email box..."Account Disabled"! I couldn't believe it at first! They didn't give/show any reason at that point but gave me option for an appeal. I followed the link & complete the little procedure of providing my full name, email ID and DOB. Then after a while I received the following mail from "The FaceBook team":

Hi,

In an effort to maintain a culture of authenticity on the site, Facebook requires users to provide their real first and last names. Impersonating anyone or anything is prohibited, and fake accounts are a violation of our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.

Our systems indicated that your account may not be authentic based on a variety of factors. If you believe you were disabled by mistake, please reply to this email with a digital image of your government-issued identification. Make sure the identification you provide meets all of the following requirements:

- Must be government-issued (e.g. passport, driver's license)
- Must be in color
- Must clearly show your full name, date of birth, and photo

If possible, please save this file in JPEG image format.

You may black out any personal information that is not needed to verify your identity (e.g., address, license number). Rest assured that we will permanently delete your ID from our servers once we have used it to verify the authenticity of your account.

Note that writing in and submitting your ID multiple times will not result in a faster response. Once you submit your initial request, it is placed in a queue and responded to accordingly. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thanks for contacting Facebook,

Facebook

It seems that suddenly they are having some sort of doubts/confusion about the originality of my account. That sucks! All I used to do was sharing some film reviews/ratings, online articles, youtube vdo links & sometimes "LIKE" or comment on other friend's posts, comments & pics. There were pics of my family, cousins & friends that I uploaded in the photo albums. Why the hell on earth after all these years they got the impression about the authenticity of my account??

Now they are requesting for an ID. I'm not sure whether that would be safe to send 'them' a scan copy of my any sort of ID (passport or Voter ID). Some friends here already suggested to avoid that & to open a new account but that also sucks! Then again I have to add all the friends & cousins and that's bit embarrassing as a whole.

Damn you facebook!

I wonder if legal action against facebook would be well advised.

I agree with your friends. Scanning something like your passport sounds very unsafe.

I agree with your friends, too. Not safe these days to send personal information over the internet. I don't care who it's for.

Just keep sending emails to the admin and plead your case. I was in the same situation a couple years back, but enough fighting with them got me my account back. Best of luck man.

Happened with Rayne's son, Alex. If she comes online she might be able to guide you.

btw, you shouldn't have spammed your friend's Insidious entry! :D

(just kidding!)

All the best.

I dunno if this has a 'rainmaker' feel to it. I'd bombard them with emails justifying my authenticity and keep my hard earned cash money in my account.

Good luck with it anyway.

Facebook has recently become home to a wealth of viruses too (as I'm sure you've all had the "friends" popping up on chat telling you to click a link). Could be linked to that? Also, could be to do with your name? Perhaps any connotations. They banned my friend's account because her name is "Opium", assuming it was a joke. In actual fact her mother was a druggy...

But no, Facebook have no right asking for something like that. Not worth it. Contend them as much as possible. The fact that you argue will already show your commitment to your cause.
