1) V and Neverending
2) Roshiq and The Villain (if he sees what happened and re-registers)
3) Ferret and Nightmare
Those are the ones that I remember seeing, before everything got wiped
I still have Roshiq's address because he sent it on Facebook...Anyone who is no longer confident in HDC's PM system can send their addresses on Facebook. If you are not on my list, you can send a message without adding me, if you have a Facebook account.

btw, I replied to your other thread saying I didn't mind hardcovers. If the book's good and its a keepsake, hardcover will do just fine.
And you can send me mystery/thrillers too, no problem. I am an avid reader and like all sorts of stuff - particularly classic horror from Poe, Blackwood, M R James, Stoker etc. etc.

Well, it looks like I will be forced to do one box a week despite my impatience...Finances take precedence :p
$120 to India?...Tell me THAT's not ridiculous!...Almost the same for Bangladesh and England...Sooo, I'm going to transfer all international packages to large flat rate boxes, which will only cost around $60 each for anything outside of the United States...I'm going to compare prices with UPS first, but I don't think they can do it any cheaper than that.
Also...It's not as easy as I thought it would be...I have to fill out customs forms (at least the forms are free :D)...I had no idea...lol...I guess I don't have to tell you guys that I have never sent packages to other countries before...Oh well, every new experience is a learning experience :)
Neverending, your package has been dropped off, and should be at your house sometime next week

I was fearing as much.
For me it is close to about $180 (conversion from Indian Rupees) PLUS handling charges, which would be around $10 more, so a total of $190. Like I mentioned in the Package thread, it is close to a week's pay for me, and that's why I am hesitant till I get some sort of assurance from others.
Rayne, if it's too much of a hassle, drop me from your list. Send my box to someone else over there. $60 isn't exactly small either, it's a lot of good money. You gotta save everything you got for your wedding next year.
neverending
05-20-2011, 09:49 PM
Maybe you could make your box smaller, V?
_____V_____
05-20-2011, 11:59 PM
Any smaller and it wouldn't be a Package.
Right now I have planned - 3 DVDs, 5 VHSes, 3 books, 4-5 magazines, a couple Audio CDs and some smaller accessory-type stuff.
I could take out the Audio CDs and possibly 2-3 VHSes, maybe even a DVD, but that would make it very monotonous. The person receiving from me should get some variety in their choices too.

Wow, Rayne, that is one heck of a shipping cost! I'm with Avi, if you need to drop me off the list then that's cool. Don't put your purse on the line if you don't have to.

I had no idea shipping costs were so expensive honestly those amounts are daylight robbery. For that reason i'm not getting involved with any packages.
Rayne
05-21-2011, 06:25 AM
$60 is fine for us, it just means that I will have to do it the way I outlined it to begin with, rather than sending 4-6 boxes at a time...I suppose this will teach me to have some patience (by "teach" I mean 'force'...lol)...The cost to send the boxes inside the United States, is easy so adding that to the $60 will be okay, too.
@Avi and Ferret: When someone 'drops' someone from a list, they drop from the BOTTOM, not the TOP!...I am VERY excited about sending these to you guys and Roshiq!...Umm...Even if you don't find anything you like in the boxes :p...Really, I just wanna share something with you guys :)
In fact, I'm pretty sure that none of you will be able to play the DVDs because of the different regions :p...But, I still want you to have them

05-21-2011, 06:27 AM

I would feel too guilty making you pay extortionate shipping costs to the UK-if you didnt know the UK postal system is in tatters-plus postal workers are striking every five minutes. Be aware anything you send to the UK will be very risky
_____V_____
05-21-2011, 06:37 AM
Rayne, if it's possible, I am willing to share shipping expenses with you, if you are sending a box to me.

I just walked in the front door and I'm headed out the back, but this computer is on my way through so I'm leaving a quick message:
Ferret and V, your packages have been sent and should arrive in about 2-3 weeks...Roshiq, I have to repackage yours into a flat-rate box and send it next Friday (Sorry Sweetheart)...V, your label is all squished and stupid now since I repackaged your stuff and had to retape the label, while Dustin held it down with both hands but he didn't move his hand fast enough when I was on top of it with the tape so anyway...It's bunchy :p
Next Friday I will send out Nightmare's box when I send Roshiq's
I have to go help the guys clean the pool now...Have fun, everyone :)

There should be an HDC package sending Hall of Fame with Rayne as the champ for sending numerous packages across the globe. Add to that list:
Despare (2 packages)
Newb
ChronoGrl
Roshiq
I believe that's everyone that sent a package successfully.

You probably didn't see the original post, so be warned...I am cleaning out my basement, throwing books in at random, you may not get anything you like, BUT ya never know :)
I have some books down there from the 70s...lol
Oh, and please DO NOT reciprocate...I'm trying to purge, not acquire...We do not want to pack and move all of this stuff when we get our new house (sometime next year)...I'm getting rid of as much as I can, and I just thought this would be a fun way to do it...Throw away the ones you don't want, keep what you do want (if anything)...If you find NOTHING that you want, at least keep one book, just because I sent it to you :)
That last paragraph is for everyone.
EDIT: I called the post office and there is no restriction for sending Cincinnati Recipe chili to other countries, so Elvis, I may introduce you to some very American fare...And Margie, I'm thinking about sharing my amazing apple tea with you :)

The first book box has arrived! It's chock full of goodies! 3 DVDS- Tsui Mark's Vampire Hunters, a double feature of Eaten Alive and Crucible of Horror and a double feature of The Crawling Eye and The Killer Shrews. There were also a good 2 dozen books- hardcovers and paperbacks- some Peter Straub, Dean Koontz, John Saul and a variety of lesser known names- horror novels, an anthology edited by Robert Bloch, some mysteries and thrillers, some fantasy and more!
It'll keep me reading for years! Thanks very much Rayne and Dude! It's very much appreciated. It's the best Christmas I ever had!
Not to mention, it was so well packed I can't figure out how to get them back in the box and fit right...

Rayne is amazingly good at that. If I pack a box, I usually fill empty spaces with paper or something. If she sees a space big enough to hold a book, she'll find a way to fit three more into it.

The mailman cometh! Just when I reached home for a late lunch, he was about to ring the bell.
24 books (yes, you read that right!) and 3 DVDs! It felt like a minor treasure box when me and the wife opened the lids and peered in!
All of them are in pretty good condition, some of them feel brand new!
21 paperbacks and 3 hardcovers. The 3 hardcovers are short-story/novella collections, and so are 6 of the paperbacks.
The rest are novels, except 1 book which is a real life exploration of a city and the mysterious and bizarre stories associated with it, called "Mysterious Knoxville" written by Charles Edwin Price.
Here they are, stacked neatly on the sewing machine table (only empty table I could find for a decent picture) -

Yes there are some really good stories in the Anthologies. Satellite is a tad slow tonight, so I ll put up some more pics of the Anthologies' contents tomorrow.
My instant favorite is the Reader's Digest: Great Stories of Mystery of Suspense, Volume II (the third row pic, standing hardcover book beside Mysterious Knoxville). It has some of the most fantastic novels which I had been searching for a long time.
Wish come true. I am starting on it tonight. :)

Uh- make sure it's not one of their "condensed books" - where they reduce the word count to fit more books into one volume. Believe it or not, this was a very popular activity for them at one point.

As soon as I saw your reply, I grabbed the book and...damn! There it was, in the second page itself, one small line "condensed by Reader's Digest Authors"!
Funny though, the other RD's Hardcover Anthology volume (Great True Stories of Crime, Mystery and Detection) isn't a condensed version of the stories within it. Neither is the Doubleday Hardcover one.

Aww, I'm so glad that you guys liked your boxes :)
I'm a little concerned about Ferret's now, but hopefully he will get it soon

Ferret's and Roshiq's are now in a race for second place ...lol
***UPDATE***
Tomorrow, around 3pm EST, I will have sent out all of the boxes that I have remaining addresses for...Soooo, I need more addresses, if anyone wants some books.
@Hammerfan: I don't have your address anymore, it's been YEARS ...So, I can send out your apple tea on Saturday if you send me your address.
@Crabapple: I plan to send you something (I can add books, if you like), but I need to know if your address is still the same as what was written on the last thing you sent me...If it has changed, please send me your new one.

I noticed it so easily as the name on its red cover says ....."Sanjid"...OMG! It's me! That's Rayne's package! I didn't expect to find it there so easily. But the fun part begins after the discovery...
Anyway, as I boldly called one of the stuffs & preparing for a heavy hot headed argument "Why the hell my package is still lying on your floor?"
A stuff came to me & as soon as I pointed the package to him & said that's mine...he bring it up on a table & says "What's your address?"
I thought he was trying to check the authenticity of my claim...so I told him in detail but in the midway he stopped me and said..."Sorry sir, the address is incorrect! It wasn't possible for us to send it at your house!"
Then he showed it to me. The thing is there are 2 important parts in the address...the house no. & the road no. of our area. Like mine is House no. 17 & Road no. 13.
But darling, most probably by mistakenly you make it short and only wrote "House no. 13!"
And as there's 14 officially listed roads in our zone where House#13 is common in many so they didn't felt it safe to knock every 13 no. house in all the roads. Moreover, my house no. is 17 in road 13.:D
Anyway, thank god finally the package came to my hand safely and Thank You so much for these awesome collection of Horror books! In total 23 including Rayne's special selection for me:o Grimm's Grimmest! And a DVD...ZOMBIE NIGHT!
I wish I could take a month long vacation & read all of them one by one! Amazing stuffs!
I'll put my best effort to treasure them always with me...even that sweet little beautiful note of yours. :)
Thank you, Rayne. Thanks a lot.

At least it reached you, Roshiq :)
Rayne, I can't stress enough what a lovely thing this is you're doing for us all! I'm loving the latest editions to my bookshelf - and what a great time to have them too - a whole summer before I have to return to 5 days a week schooling!

I'm sooo late getting back to this!...I am very happy that my old books are now in several countries...That is awesome!...I am even more happy that I could share something with all of you, it's almost like being able to touch you...Wish I could give you a hug <3
I'm sorry about the mix-up, Roshiq...I honestly thought that I copied everything word/number for word/number...There were so many boxes on those forms, addresses are much simpler here...lol...I am so very glad that you went to check :)
One more is floating around out there in the United States right now...Should arrive soon.
