An interesting local story (I live in the "cozy hamlet" of Manorville). Do you think these killings were the work of one person?

The first thing I saw when I opened the link was "Who cares about Long Island"? Well, not me.

It could be one person you never do really know but it seems that once someone has committed murder once they get a taste for it plus it also can give a person ultimate power or control over someone else. Basically I think that a killer always strikes again. Also I know what its like living in a crime scene since last year when someone got shot in my road and the police cordoned the road off for a few days. It was weird leaving my flat and walking into a crime scene and a plethora of cops.

Most murders are crimes of passion- the killer knows the victim and has a reason to kill them. Once that person is dead, they no longer have a reason to kill. So, I would dispute your statement that "a killer always strikes again."

Maybe I truly am sick, but I think having a serial killer on the loose makes the world a little more interesting. But I feel awful for any victims

Last I heard about the "long island killer" was the police were looking into a Doctor who was connected too one of the victims. Possible "john".

I would also dispute that "they no longer have a reason to kill" though I'm no criminologist in the UK most murders are linked to other crimes (be that gang violence or money motivated) but there is a definite addiction to murder especially if a person feels that they can get away with it. I agree that the killer will most likely know the victim especially for a first murder however I feel that this progresses as a killer becomes seduced by the power and control they get from murder therefore thinking in different terms than they did before they committed murder and see it as an ultimate answer in their future problems as a way to solve them. Therefore they find it easier to kill people for much lesser reasons then the first murder. I know you won't believe me but I do actually know a few people who have been in prison for murder-their circumstances were that they were backed into a corner and had to defend themselves. This gave them a reputation amongst other inmates as capable of killing if they need to so they would be left alone as it was well known in the prison that if you have killed someone it is very easy to do it again

This case is getting increasingly complicated:

Another body found in my neighborhood. It's really creepy when a body turns up in a place you've walked past before:

that is very very creepy,do you look around at people and think, maybe hes the killer seeing as a lot of serial killers have come across as normal and outgoing people in the past.it could be a good friend that you would never suspect like the anne rule and ted bundy thing.and even more creepier YOU could be the next victim.
would be pretty hard to be serial killer these days with dna and all that new advanced shit.though c.i channel and csi,svu and all those programs would help out

I'm not sure it's the work of one person. All those bodies that have turned up in Manorville and Gilgo Beach don't seem to have much in common. It seems like every serial killer in the tri-state area is using those places as dumping grounds.

I missed this thread in the past, just found it today. I agree and don't think it is all from the same person. Unless I am getting my articles mixed up I found it a bit odd that the bodies were all female except the one asain man. That didn't add up to me.

*Edit. Ok, after reading Wickers last link I realize it was more than one male. I do still think that it is a coincidence and the work of more than one person. I'll have to do some more research.....
