Believe me when I tell you, if you find yourself in a similar situation, DO NOT GO!!!

Even if your partner says "go ahead" or "that's okay", it's a lie. We are hoping you will decide on your own not to go, and if you don't, there will be hell to pay at a later date.http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2014135050_giffords05.html

This is strictly a female trait.

Pffffth!

You haven't been married as long as they have. Just you wait and see.

The second he's left the ground she'll pop the champaign and start dancing around in her underwear.

Really?! Space?! Even the girl from "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" agreed with me.

Maybe the wives need to learn to say what they mean instead of getting mad when the husbands do exactly what they're told.

Because if we tell you no, then you'll pout. Read a woman's body language and the expression on her face, and you'll know what to do.

Angra - I've been married for 23 years, so we've dispensed with this "what am I thinking" game a long time ago, but I'm telling you, THINK. Seriously, this advice is pure gold.:D

I'll admit to having done this about little things, but if it was my bfs dream to go to space I would legitimately want him to go even if i was in the hospital.

Why don't you go with him, instead of complaining about things?

Why don't you go with him, instead of complaining about things?

Because, she's in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to the head and even if she wasn't she's not an astronaut.

I realize the circumstances are very unusual, and it must have been a tough call for him, but the moment I saw the problem unfolding, I could imagine the thought processes on both their parts and thought; If he goes, and she really would rather he hadn't and decides she's mad at him for being selfish, his defense will be "But she told me I could go".

This is now the "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" thread.:D

Bah! Most people go outside "to get some air" after a terrible thing happens. The vacuum of space doesn't seem the best place to get air now, does it?

I expect I would too, it being the final mission of the shuttle and all, but I wouldn't know until I was in her shoes.

I thought it was self explanatory. Vacuum = no air..

I really don't see the issue here. Lifelong dream pwns marriage every time.

Except it's not a lifelong dream; it's the final mission of a space shuttle.

As I said, under the circumstances, I would probably want him to go (if he stayed, I'd feel guilty), but if I was rehabilitating from a gunshot wound to the head, I might not feel quite so selfless.

She probably isn't really aware of what's going on. While her recovery has been nothing short of miraculous, she still had a bullet go through her brain a couple weeks ago.
