has been a loooong time since I've been here...

Anyways, I'm trying to find vigilante films and it has proven to be more difficult than I expected. Can anyone recommend me any Death Wish / Ms. 45 type of vigilante films? Death Wish type meaning not a superhero-vigilante, but "normal- person-getting-even" type of vigilante films

Last House On The Left?

yes, I guess Last House on the left goes to the rape-revenge pile, along with I spit on your grave, Ladies Club, Savage Streets and such.

There was Death Wish in 1974, The Exterminator 1980 and after that all those Death Wish sequels and William Lustig's Vigilante. And then of course, years later, The Brave One and Harry Brown. But I feel that I'm missing something here, a bunch of films that are just harder to find...

Thta Kevin Bacon film could be Death Sentence...

Nope- the OP got it right- Death Sentence. Very well done. Bacon goes to avenge his son's death.

Vigilante films:

Park's Vengeance Trilogy
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0310775/) (2002)
Oldboy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364569/) (2003)
Lady Vengeance (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0451094/) (2005)

Taken (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0936501/) (2008) - Fantastic thriller (and it's not usually my genre)

Of course, there's the Kill Bill films as well...

How about Rolling Thunder, I Spit on your Grave, Class of 1984 and the absolute best (excluding Last House on the Left) Irreversible?
Will I get laughed at for suggesting Mel Gibson's Ransom? Probably:)

But to be honest its a bot more like Falling Down than a Vigilante movie.

Another guilty Pleasure - Ordinary folks fight back against Gang scum:

Dirty Weekend (hated this film)

Theres a Norwegian remake of I spit on your Grave called HORA.

The Gladiator (the Abel Ferrara film)

Thank you everybody, this helps a lot. There was lot of movies there that I just had forgotten, and, for my delight, few new ones from the 70's and 80's. Movies such as Tenement, Defiance and Dirty Weekend are definitely something I have to look in to...
