I had to at least make sure that I put this one up.
2011 is looking pretty clear (on my end) at this stage.

Post as appropriate, only correct information please.
So yeah don't actually SAY someone's dead unless they are, 'kay?

Gee I hope 2011 gives the comedians a fucking rest...perhaps that was a poor choice of words. Here's to a year where only unfunny folks bite it.

RIP Pete Postelthwaite, one of the most able and versatile actors of his generation.

Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite has died at the age of 64, a spokesperson has confirmed.

Swedish actor Per Oscarsson feared dead in house fire

Fears are growing for award-winning Swedish actor Per Oscarsson and his wife after human remains were found in his house, which burnt down on Friday.

The remains of one person found in the ashes are likely to be either that of the 83-year-old star or his 67-year-old wife, Kia Ostling, police said.

Both have been missing since the fire in south-western Sweden on Friday.

Oscarsson won best actor at Cannes in 1966 and has appeared in films based on Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy.

The house, in a remote area outside the small town of Skara, was completely destroyed, with only the chimney left when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Tributes have already begun to flood in for Oscarsson, who had appeared in more than 100 Swedish films and TV series.

In 1966, he was awarded Best Actor at the Cannes film festival for his lead role in Henning Carlsen's Hunger, an adaptation of the novel by Norwegian Nobel Literature laureate Knut Hamsun.

He also appeared in the Swedish film, The Girl Who Played With Fire, based on Larsson's popular book. He played Holger Palmgren, the legal guardian to the heroine, Lisbeth Salander.

Actress Susannah York dies at 72

British actress Susannah York has died at the age of 72 after suffering from cancer, her son has said. She appeared in film, TV and theatre during a career which began in the 1960s. She was nominated for a best supporting actress Oscar for her role in the 1969 film They Shoot Horses, Don't They? and won a Bafta for the same role.

Her son Orlando Wells told the Telegraph newspaper that she was "an absolutely fantastic mother". "She loved nothing more than cooking a good Sunday roast and sitting around a fire of a winter's evening. In some sense, she was quite a home girl. Both Sasha [Orlando's sister] and I feel incredibly lucky to have her as a mother.''

York graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1958, winning the Ronson Award for most promising student. Directed by Sydney Pollack, They Shoot Horses, Don't They? followed the contestants in a gruelling dance marathon and also starred Jane Fonda.

Susannah York received an Oscar nomination for her role in the 1969 film They Shoot Horses, Don't They? York was apparently angry at having been nominated for the Oscar without being asked, but did attend the ceremony.

She was also nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as Alice.

News editor at Empire Magazine, Chris Hewitt, said she "came to fame" in Tom Jones, opposite Albert Finney, in 1963, and was "amazing" in The Killing of Sister George in 1968.

Outside her professional work, she was a supporter of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, and Mordechai Vanunu, the technician imprisoned for 18 years for revealing Israel's secret nuclear programme.

spent many nights watching Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.

Don Kirshner, legendary American music publisher, died Monday in Boca Raton, Florida of heart failure. He was 77.

Time magazine once dubbed him “The man with the golden ear.”

A renowned song publisher and rock producer, Kirshner is best known for managing the songwriting talent behind the successful pop music television series The Monkees and later The Archies, and also for his signature television program Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.

He achieved his first major success in the late 1950s and early 1960s as co-owner of the influential New York-based publishing company Aldon Music with Al Nevin -- they had several of the most important songwriters of the so-called "Brill Building'" under contract including Carole King, Neil Sedaka, Howard Greenfield, Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann. As a producer-promoter, Kirshner was influential in starting the career of artists such as Bobby Darin, Neil Diamond and Tony Orlando as well as discovering rock acts such as Kansas.

In September 1973, Kirshner created, produced, and eventually hosted his own syndicated weekly rock-concert program called Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. He was inducted into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame in 2007.

indeed

Actress Tura Satana died yesterday in Reno, Nev., according to the New York Times. Satana appeared in numerous movies and TV shows, including Billy Wilder’s 1963 film Irma la Douce. The colorful and curvaceous actress also worked as an exotic dancer and once turned down a proposal of marriage from Elvis Presley. But it was her role as the sexy, violent Varla in Russ Meyer’s 1965 film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! which would ultimately turn her into a cult icon as, over time, the movie acquired an army of diehard fans. John Waters once described the film as ”the best movie ever made, and possibly better than any movie that will ever be made.”

“A woman, like my character, was able to show the male species that we’re not helpless and not entirely dependent on them,” Satana said of Varla, in 2008. “People picked up on the fact that women could be gorgeous and sexy and still kick ass.”

Jane Russell, the busty brunette who shot to fame as the sexy star of Howard Hughes' 1941 Western "The Outlaw," died Monday of respiratory failure, her family said. She was 89.

Although Russell largely retired from Hollywood after her final film, 1970's "Darker Than Amber," she had remained active in her church, with charitable organizations and with a local singing group until her health began to decline just a couple weeks ago, said her daughter-in-law, Etta Waterfield. She died at her home in Santa Maria.

He was 87.

Campbell died Friday at the Motion Picture & Television Fund's hospital in the San Fernando Valley, according to media reports.

'Superman' Actor Jackie Cooper -- Dead At 88
5/4/2011 1:41 PM PDT

Academy Award nominated actor Jackie Cooper has died.

Cooper -- who was nominated for an Oscar when he was 9-years-old -- passed away yesterday at a hospital in Beverly Hills after a sudden bout with illness.

Cooper was a highly respected director in his adult years -- winning Emmy awards for his work on "M*A*S*H*" and "The White Shadow."

Cooper famously played the role of The Daily Planet newspaper editor Perry White in the 1978 "Superman" film.

And the Hollywood death toll continues to mount its way throughout the year 2011 as yet another golden age actress has been taken from us, leaving behind one hell of a horror memory!

According to the LA Times Dana Wynter, who was best known by fans as Becky Driscoll in the classic 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers, died Thursday of congestive heart failure at Ojai Valley Community Hospital's Continuing Care Center, said her son, Mark Bautzer.

She was 79.

Though she graced our genre only a few times, she, just like the film itself, had an impact on generations of filmmakers to come. We would like to take this time to offer Dana's many friends, family members, and constituents our sincerest of condolences.

Thanks for the memories, Dana. We're sure that somewhere right now both you and Kevin McCarthy are running through the clouds.

Pro Wrestler Randy 'Macho Man' Savage Dies in Car Accident

Pro wrestling superstar Randy "Macho Man" Savage died after having a heart attack while driving his Jeep Wrangler, Fox News confirms.

The accident happened in Seminole, Fla.

A source tells Fox News that he "suffered a heart attack while driving and hit a tree."

Lanny Poffo, Randy's brother, told TMZ the accident happened Friday morning when Savage lost control of his vehicle.

Florida Highway Patrol said Savage leapt a concrete median, veered into oncoming traffic and smashed into a tree head on.

He died from his injuries at largo Medical Center.

Savage, 58, had just celebrated his first wedding anniversary with his wife Lynn. It was his second marriage. His first wife died of a drug overdose shortly after their divorce in 1992.

Professional wrestler Kevin Nash tweeted: "I lost a close friend today. If anybody in heaven is wondering who the cat in the ugly cowboy hat is it's Randy. Love you Bro. Never another."

Savage helped put WWF wrestling on the map in the 1980s and '90s, becoming, along with Hulk Hogan, one of its biggest draws. His outrageous outfits and bellowing voice made him a fan favorite.

Australian acting legend Bill Hunter has died at the age of 71.

The "Muriel's Wedding" star passed away on on Saturday surrounded by his family at a Melbourne hospice following a battle with cancer, according to his manager Mark Morrissey.

Hunter was admitted to the hospice on 16 May and his loved ones flocked to his bedside after doctors informed him they would not be able to operate.

His career began on Australian television in the 1960s and by the 1970s, he had become one of the country's most popular actors with roles in films including "Gallipoli", alongside Mel Gibson, and "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert".

In 1978, he was honoured with the Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for "Newsfront" and he scooped the Best Supporting Actor AFI Award for "Gallipoli" in 1981.

Hunter, who became known for playing stereotypically gruff Australian men with big hearts, was also awarded the Centenary Medal for his service to acting in 2001. He has also voiced parts in "Finding Nemo" and last year's "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole".

News of his cancer emerged on 18 May, sending shock waves through the film industry Down Under, with filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, who worked with Hunter in the 1992 hit "Strictly Ballroom" and the 2008 epic "Australia", offering his support to the ill star.

Dr. Jack Kevorkian, nicknamed "Dr. Death" for his controversial advocacy of assisted suicide in the cases of the terminally ill, died early Friday morning, reports his local paper, the Detroit Free Press.

http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2011/news/110613/dr-kevorkian-240.jpg

He was 83, suffered kidney and heart ailments and was not placed on life support, his attorney, Mayer Morganroth, told the paper.

Last year, Al Pacino won an Emmy for his portrayal of Kevorkian in HBO's You Don't Know Jack.

In all, the trained pathologist assisted some 130 terminally or chronically ill patients in their deaths during the 1990s. In 1999, he was convicted of second-degree murder after sending a videotape of himself euthanizing a terminally ill man to CBS's 60 Minutes. His medical license was also revoked.

At Kevorkian's side in Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., at the time of his own death was his niece, Ava Janus, and Morganroth, who told the Free Press: "It was peaceful, he didn't feel a thing."

Gunsmoke' Legend James Arness Dies at 88

http://www.celebritiesfans.com/Pic/jamesarness.jpg

http://www.darkrecesses.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/James-Arness-The-Thing.jpg

James Arness, the tall man who towered over TV screens for 20 seasons as the iconic Marshal Matt Dillon on CBS’ Gunsmoke, has died.

He was 88.

The 6-foot-7 actor, who also starred in the 1950s sci-fi classics Them! and The Thing From Another World, passed away of natural causes Friday in his home in Brentwood, according to his business manager, Ginny Fazer.

His death comes 14 months after his brother, Mission: Impossible actor Peter Graves, died of a heart attack at age 83.

Arness’ official website posted a letter from the actor on Friday that he wrote with the intention that it be posted posthumously.

“I had a wonderful life and was blessed with some many loving people and great friends,” he said. “I wanted to take this time to thank all of you for the many years of being a fan of Gunsmoke, The Thing, How the West Was Won and all the other fun projects I was lucky enough to have been allowed to be a part of. I had the privilege of working with so many great actors over the years.”

As the stoic Marshal Dillon, Arness kept the peace in rough and tumble Dodge City, Kan., on Gunsmoke, which aired on CBS from September 1955 to March 1975 for a total of 635 episodes. It set a record for the longest-running, live-action primetime series by seasons, since tied by NBC’s Law & Order.

Arness’ 20-year primetime stint on TV is another record, since tied by Kelsey Grammer’s two decades years as the character Frasier Crane on two shows, Cheers and then Frasier.

Said a statement from CBS on Friday, “Our network headquarters at CBS Studio Center in Studio City looks out at Stage 3, which was home to Gunsmoke’s “Dodge City.” All of us here today tip our hat in that direction for everything Mr. Arness contributed to Gunsmoke, to CBS and to the medium we all love.”

After starring in the title role as a thawed-out alien bent in eating humans in The Thing, he was spotted by John Wayne, who signed him to a contract with his production company, Batjac Prods. The actors worked together on such films as Big Jim McLain (1952), Island in the Sky (1953), Hondo (1953) and The Sea Chase (1955).

Wayne recommended Arness for the role of Marshal Dillon on Gunsmoke, which was coming to TV after beginning as a radio program in 1955. (The show ran on radio until 1961, with William Conrad voicing the lawman.)

“Go ahead and take it, Jim,” Wayne urged him. “You’re too big for pictures. Guys like Gregory Peck and I don’t want a big lug like you towering over us. Make your mark in television.”

Gunsmoke, created by director Norman MacDonnell and writer John Meston, was TV’s No. 1 ranked show from 1957-61.

Arness made five Gunsmoke telefilms from 1987 to 1994. The actor also starred as Zeb Macahan, who leads his family across the American West, in the popular miniseries ’70s How the West Was Won, based on the 1962 MGM film (Arness played the James Stewart character).

Arness’ final TV series, the police drama McClain’s Law, aired from 1981-82.

Survivors include his wife Janet, two sons and six grandchildren. Services will be private.

Leonard Stern, Mad Libs creator and TV writer, dies at 88

Leonard Stern, an [adjective] writer best known for writing [number] episodes of classic TV shows like “The Honeymooners” and “Get Smart,” [verb ending in "ing] [adverb ending in "ly"], and creating the fill-in-the-blanks party game Mad Libs along with partner Roger Price, died Tuesday in Los Angeles. He was 88. Stern got his start in show business at the tender age of 16, when he began writing jokes for Milton Berle. He and Price came up with the idea for their popular game in 1953, according to The L.A. Times.

At the time, Stern was working on a “Honeymooners” script and struggling to come up with the best word to describe how Ralph Kramden’s new boss’s nose looked. “I asked Roger for an idea for an adjective, and before I could tell him what it was describing, he threw out ‘clumsy’ and ‘naked.’ We both started laughing,” Stern told Publishers Weekly in 2008. “We sat down and wrote a bunch of stories with blanks in them. That night we took them to a cocktail party and they were a great success.” The pair would go on to self-publish the first Mad Libs in 1958. Today, more than 110 million copies of various volumes of the game have been sold.

'Spider-Man' Producer Laura Ziskin Dies at 61

Spider-Man" producer Laura Ziskin died Sunday evening. She was 61 and had been battling breast cancer for seven years.

Ziskin was perhaps best known for her work on the "Spider-Man" franchise, which brought in over $1.5 billion worldwide, making her one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood.

Ziskin produced the Academy Awards telecast two times, becoming the first woman to produce the awards show solo in 2002 and earning multiple Emmy awards in the process.

Though she struggled with cancer since receiving a Stage 3 diagnosis in 2004, Ziskin remained indefatigable, overseeing one of Sony's highest-grossing franchises and the broadcast of the industry's top awards shows.

She also became active in the movement to combat the disease, drawing on her contacts in the entertainment industry to help found Stand Up To Cancer in 2008.

After graduating from the University of Southern California's School for Cinematic Arts, Ziskin worked as a game show writer and personal assistant to producer Jon Peters. From there, she moved on to become a development executive, eventually forming Fogwood Films with partner Sally Field.

At Fogwood, Ziskin produced the Oscar nominated "Murphy's Romance" as a vehicle for Field and the Cold War thriller "No Way Out," which provided a crucial early role to a young Kevin Costner.

Ziskin would go on to work as a producer at Touchstone Pictures and as president of Fox 2000, where she oversaw hits such as "Pretty Woman" and "Courage Under Fire," as well as occasional misses such as the William Hurt medical drama "The Doctor."

During the 1990s, Ziskin would also executive produce "As Good As it Gets," which received seven Oscar nominations, including one for Best Picture. She also produced such critically acclaimed films as "Fight Club" and "To Die For."

After leaving Fox 2000 in 1999, Ziskin landed an independent production deal at Columbia Pictures, where she would go on to shepherd "Spider-Man" to the big screen. A new installment in the comic book series, "The Amazing Spider-Man," hits theaters next summer.

E Street Band sax player Clarence Clemons dies
Posted: Jun 19, 2011 7:40 AM IST Updated: Jun 19, 2011 5:13 PM IST
By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY
AP Music Writer

NEW YORK (AP) - Clarence Clemons, the larger-than-life saxophone player for the E Street Band who was one of the key influences in Bruce Springsteen's life and music through four decades, has died. He was 69.

Clemons died Saturday night after being hospitalized about a week ago following a stroke at his home in Singer Island, Fla.

Springsteen acknowledged the dire situation earlier this week, but said then he was hopeful. He called the loss "immeasurable."

"We are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly 40 years," Springsteen said on his website. "He was my great friend, my partner and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band."

Known as the Big Man for his imposing 6-foot-5-inch, 270-plus pound frame, Clemons and his ever-present saxophone spent much of his life with The Boss, and his booming saxophone solos became a signature sound for the E Street Band on many key songs, including "Jungleland," a triumphant solo he spent 16 hours perfecting, and "Born To Run."

In recent years, Clemons had been slowed by health woes. He endured major spinal surgery in January 2010 and, at the 2009 Super Bowl, Clemons rose from a wheelchair to perform with Springsteen after double knee replacement surgery.

But his health seemed to be improving. In May, he performed with Lady Gaga on the season finale of "American Idol," and performed on two songs on her "Born This Way" album. Just this week, Lady Gaga's video with Clemons, "The Edge of Glory," debuted.

Clemons said in a 2010 interview with The Associated Press then that he was winning his battles - including severe, chronic pain and post-surgical depression. His sense of humor helped.

"Of all the surgeries I've had, there's not much left to operate on. I am totally bionic," he said.

"God will give you no more than you can handle," he said in the interview. "This is all a test to see if you are really ready for the good things that are going to come in your life. All this pain is going to come back and make me stronger."

Outside The Stone Pony, the legendary Asbury Park, N.J., rock club where Springsteen, Clemons and other E Street Band members cut their teeth in the 1970s, Phil Kuntz stopped to place a small yellow flower on a decorative white fence. Nearby, someone taped a handwritten sign that read simply "RIP Big Man."

Reaction came from across the entertainment industry.

"Clarence Clemons was an electric, generous, sweet spirit. Taught me how to look cool with a sax. Goodbye Big Man," tweeted actor Rob Lowe.

Added Questlove, drummer for the Roots: "RIP Clarence Clemons. A True Legend. Will be absolutely missed."

An original member - and the oldest member - of the E Street Band, Clemons also performed with the Grateful Dead, the Jerry Garcia Band, and Ringo Starr's All Star Band. He recorded with a wide range of artists including Aretha Franklin, Roy Orbison and Jackson Browne. He also had his own band called the Temple of Soul.

Born in Norfolk, Va., Clemons was the grandson of a Baptist minister and began playing the saxophone when he was 9.

"Nobody played instruments in my family. My father got that bug and said he wants his son to play saxophone. I wanted an electric train for Christmas, but he got me a saxophone. I flipped out," he said in a 1989 interview with the AP.

He was influenced by R&B artists such as King Curtis and Junior Walker. But his dreams originally focused on football. He played for Maryland State College, and was to try out for the Cleveland Browns when he got in a bad car accident that made him retire from the sport for good.

His energies then focused on music.

In 1971, Clemons was playing with Norman Seldin & the Joyful Noise when he heard about rising singer-songwriter named Springsteen, who was from New Jersey. The two hit it off immediately and Clemons officially joined the E Street Band in 1973 with the release of the debut album "Greetings from Asbury Park."

Clemons emerged as one of the most critical members of the E Street Band for different reasons. His burly frame would have been intimidating if not for his bright smile and endearing personality that charmed fans.

"Since 1973 the Springsteen/Clemons partnership has reaped great rewards and created insightful, high energy rock & roll," declared Don Palmer in Down Beat in 1984. "Their music, functioning like the blues from which it originated, chronicled the fears, aspirations, and limitations of suburban youth. Unlike many musicians today, Springsteen and Clemons were more interested in the heart and substance rather than the glamour of music."

In a 2009 interview, Clemons described his deep bond with Springsteen, saying: "It's the most passion that you have without sex."

"It's love. It's two men - two strong, very virile men - finding that space in life where they can let go enough of their masculinity to feel the passion of love and respect and trust," he added.

Clemons continued to perform with the band for the next 12 years, contributing his big, distinctive big sound to the albums, "The Wild, The Innocent and the E-Street Shuffle," ''Born to Run," ''Darkness on the Edge of Town, "The River" and "Born in the USA." But four years after Springsteen experienced the blockbuster success of "Born in the USA" and toured with his group, he decided to disband the E Street Band.

Clemons also made several television and movie appearances over the years, including Martin Scorsese's 1977 musical, "New York, New York", in which he played a trumpet player.

The break with Springsteen and the E Street Band didn't end his relationship with either Springsteen or the rest of the band members, nor would it turn out to be permanent. By 1999 they were back together for a reunion tour and the release of "The Rising."

But the years took a toll on Clemons' body, and he had to play through the pain of surgeries and other health woes.

"It takes a village to run the Big Man - a village of doctors," Clemons told The Associated Press in a phone interview in 2010. "I'm starting to feel better; I'm moving around a lot better."

He published a memoir, "Big Man: Real Life and Tall Tales," in 2009 and continued to perform.

He is the second member of the E Street Band to pass away: In 2008, Danny Federici, the keyboardist for the band, died at age 58 of melanoma.

It's funny, I've always expected that one of the Jackass/CKY guys would go out in some sort of spectacular stunt related fashion but then something that effects many people takes one.
I'm assuming it's true (that said - if it's not, I don't really think I'd bother with anything further they put out) and yeah, that's pretty unfortunate, I always found him one of the more likeable guys of the cast...I've watched him in various things from a time he was about 15 years younger than I am now, I know the series/s will be at a loss without him.

Actress Googie Withers, best known for her role in Alfred Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes, has died aged 94.

Googie (born Georgette Lizette Withers) died in her home in Australia on Friday.

http://cdn.mos.totalfilm.com/images/a/actress-googie-withers-has-died-62014-470-75.jpg

She was born in British India in 1917, and she took up acting at 12 years old, when her family returned to England.

She worked on a huge number of British films throughout the '30s and '40s, including The Lady Vanishes, Powell and Pressburger's One Of Our Aircraft Is Missing and Ealing Studios' portmanteau spooker Dead Of Night.

Withers met her husband, Australian actor John McCallum, on the set of The Loves Of Joanna Godden in 1947, and they were married the next year.

The pair starred in nine more films together, as well as a number of plays. McCallum, who is remembered for co-creating Skippy The Bush Kangaroo, died last year, aged 91.

I'd have liked to have seen her recover, but yeah I remember thinking about two years ago she completely looked like she was on deaths door, regardless of what she was she became a disgusting junkie...hard to say "will be missed" because what I saw that was good about her seems to have fled the scene some years ago.

It isn't the drugs that are the problem but simply having no support when the pleasure/pain scale of drug usage becomes exclusively tipped towards pain.

Seeing the Facebook posts about how she stupid and "just another dead crackhead" make me sick. How can these people who have acheived nothing and think about nothing of any substance (I know these people) just disregard someone simply because they turned to drugs to deal with their problems? They probably don't even know...but it's all okay because seven people have "liked" it.

Hollywood heavy-hitter John Calley — who produced such big-name projects as The Da Vinci Code, Closer, The Remains of the Day (for which he was nominated for an Oscar), and Catch-22 — has passed away at 81.

During his 50+-year career in film, Calley served as chairman and CEO at Sony Pictures Entertainment and studio chief at Warner Bros. and MGM/United Artists. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded Calley the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 2009.

Beginning his career in television production in the 1950s producing such classic series as Mr. Ed, Calley would go on to produce for Filmways pics like The Loved One, The Cincinnati Kid, Castle Keep, Ice Station Zebra, Topkapi, The Americanization Of Emily, and Catch-22.

While filming Joseph Heller’s novel of wartime insanity, Calley became identified with a seismic shift in Hollywood’s balance of power, as his official biography notes. “The late 1960s ushered in a new generation of younger filmmakers just as the major studios were discovering the vast potential of the youth market. ‘Kids were kings. After Easy Rider, everything was exploding everywhere,” Calley recalled in a 1999 newspaper interview. ‘We were all young, it was our time, and it was very exciting. The founders were no longer in charge … What had been this rigid, immobile structure had completely come apart, and what was left was a lot of freedom.’”

Calley became head of production, president, and vice chairman of Warner Bros from 1968 until 1981 under the leadership of Ted Ashley and Frank Wells and ownership of Steve Ross. That studio entered a critical and financial heyday with such acclaimed films as Dirty Harry, A Clockwork Orange, McCabe And Mrs. Miller, Deliverance, Enter The Dragon, Mean Streets, The Exorcist, A Star Is Born, What’s Up Doc, Blazing Saddles, The Towering Inferno, Dog Day Afternoon, Jeremiah Johnson, Klute, All The President’s Men, Superman, Barry Lyndon, Chariots of Fire, and Woodstock.

Calley’s memorial will be held at Sony Pictures Studios. He is survived by his daughter Sabrina Calley and step-children Emily Zinnemann, David Zinnemann and Will Firth from his marriage to Meg Tilly.

Actress Frances Bay died on Thursday of pneumonia complications. She was 92 years old, The New York Times announces. The cousin of the actress, Marly Zaslow, confirms her death and its cause.

Actress Frances Bay, Jerry Seinfeld’s “nana” in the sitcom, has died due to complications from pneumonia. She spent her final hours in Tarzana, Los Angeles, her cousin, Marly Zaslow, confirms.

Frances bay was born Frances Goffman, on January 23, 1919, in Alberta, Canada. She began acting before World War II and the most noticeable role in her debut period was the one in “Winnipeg”. She was also a radio show host at the time.

She changed residence when she got married. She and husband Charles Bay moved to Cape Town in South Africa. Overall, her personal life was far from being perfect. She had an only son, who died very young, at the age of 23. Her husband died in 2002. Just months after his death, she was involved in a car accident that left her without a part of her right leg.

At a professional level, she was one of the most loved actresses, by both her co-workers and a huge number of fans. In the fall of 2008 she received a star on Canada’s Walk Of Fame, partly due to the enormous number of letter from fans requesting it ( about 10,000 letters). Among the people who sent letters to the Selection Committee, there were also some of the most popular actors in the world: Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld, David Lynch, Monty Hall, and more.

Frances Bay’s most notable roles were Mrs. Pickman in “In the Mouth of Madness”, Adam Sandler’s grannie in “Happy Gilmore” and Seinfeld’s nana in the Jerry Seinfeld sitcom. In 1986, Bay appeared as the doddery aunt of Kyle MacLachlan's character in David Lynch's Blue Velvet. This role seems to have endeared the actress to Lynch, who recast her in several subsequent works, including as a foul-mouthed madam in Wild at Heart, and as Mrs. Tremond on Twin Peaks and its movie spin-off, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.

Fans of "Seinfeld" know her as the tough lady who fought with the show's star over the last loaf of bread.

She has no immediate survivors.

That is very sad about Frances Bay she was outstanding in everything she did-great body of work she had.

Steve Jobs, 1955 - 2011

FROM MTV NEWS: Apple announced Wednesday (October 5) that co-founder Steve Jobs had died at age 56.

Jobs, who stepped down as Apple's CEO in August, announced to his employees in 2004 that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. While he appeared to have successfully removed the cancerous tumor that same year, his health continued to deteriorate over the years and he took a medical leave of absence in January.

When announcing his resignation, Jobs wrote in a statement to Apple's board of directors, "I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's C.E.O., I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come."

Sadly, we've lost another big screen and small screen legend today, a character actor who's embodied everything from good to evil ... one of the greats. Charles Napier.

Napier, a movie and television actor who had a face you knew even if you didn’t know his name, died Wednesday in Memorial Hospital, Bakersfield, California, Greenlawn Funeral Directors confirmed late Wednesday afternoon, at the age of 75.

While best known as Murdock in Rambo: First Blood Part II, Charles has graced our genre many times in everything from the original "Star Trek" television series to Maniac Cop 2 to even Dinocroc.

He will be missed.

David Hess, an absolute icon in the genre and someone who portrayed a character known as “Krug” in Wes Craven’s Last House On The Left has always left a withstanding impression upon me. His character truly scared me to the bone as with all his characters he portrayed.

It comes with sadness that we report that David Hess has passed away in which the news comes from his official Facebook page when his children recently updated his status with this tragic news.

“It is with great sadness that we have said our last goodbyes to our beloved dad and friend to all. David passed away peacefully last night. The Mad Hessian lives on in his family, friends, and all of his devoted fans. Sing a song in celebration of his life. . . .”

Holy crap- I just asked Hess a couple of questions on Facebook last week. He's been a favorite of mine, not just because of his horror connections, but because he was on one of the 60s lost gems of obscure music. A rock opera called "The Naked Carmen." What a loss. He was a really talented guy, in many different areas.

GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot found dead on tour bus
(AP) – 6 minutes ago
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The lead guitarist for the heavy metal band GWAR has been found dead on their tour bus.
Manager Jack Flanagan and record label Metal Blade say Cory Smoot was found early Thursday before crossing into Canada following a show in Minneapolis.
It's unclear what caused Smoot's death or how old he was.
Smoot performed since 2002 under the name "Flattus Maximus" with the Richmond, Va.-based band known for its comically grotesque costumes, stage antics and vulgar lyrics.
Flanagan says there's no word yet on funeral arrangements or the rest of the tour.
Lead singer Dave Brockie, also known as "Oderus Urungus," says the band is just dealing the loss and called Smoot "one of the most talented guitar players in metal today."

I had never heard of them but they're alright. Pretty funny.

I like this about Cory Smoot's character from Wikipedia:

Very little about Flattus Maximus is explained in Gwar lore. Even his home planet is an uncertainty; in an interview conducted during a 1997 tour, Flattus (at the time portrayed by Pete Lee) explained his hazy memory was due to his notorious pot smoking, at which point he seemed to recall a planet named Pot (made entirely of cannabis) he once called home, but he ended up destroying it by smoking the entire planet out of existence. Although his explanation was never officially set in stone, it's one of many theories as to where Flattus really originates from. What is apparent, though, is that he is illiterate, has a slight Southern accent, and that he attributes his "explosive guitar style" to a strict diet of vegetarians, which also causes his infamous atomic flatulence.

R.I.P, I guess. Even though I didn't know who he was whilst he was alive. Back to listening to some Gwar.

The production designer Syd Cain, who has died aged 93, was one of many behind-the-scenes professionals elevated to something like prominence by the worldwide interest in the James Bond films.

An industry veteran who began work in British cinema as a draughtsman in 1947, contributing to the look of the gothic melodrama Uncle Silas, Cain is credited on a range of film and television projects, but remains best known for his work in various design capacities on the 007 series, from Dr No in 1962 to GoldenEye in 1995.

Though uncredited, he worked with the production designer Ken Adam – in whose shadow he modestly remained for much of his career – on Dr No, taking over as art director when Adam was not available for the immediate follow-up, From Russia With Love (1963). This was the film that introduced the character of Q (Desmond Llewelyn). Cain was responsible for the design of the gadgets issued to Sean Connery's Bond, notably the briefcase with concealed sniper rifle and tear-gas talcum tin. For the villains, Cain also provided Rosa Klebb's shoes, with poison-tipped blade, and the chess-themed decor of Blofeld's lair.

Later, he was production designer for On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969). With a new Bond (George Lazenby) and a move away from the gadgets and vast sets of Connery and Adam's later work, Thunderball and Goldfinger, this tried to seem less fantastical – the only contraption issued to Bond is a photocopier. Cain was the supervising art director on Roger Moore's first Bond film, Live and Let Die (1973), then left the series, eventually returning as a storyboard artist for Pierce Brosnan's 007 debut, GoldenEye.

Arguably more impressive than his Bond associations, Cain worked with a number of notable film-makers throughout the 1960s and 70s, as assistant art director for Stanley Kubrick (Lolita, 1962), art director for Ronald Neame (Mister Moses, 1965) and François Truffaut (Fahrenheit 451, 1966), executive art director for Richard Lester (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, 1966) and production designer for Ken Russell (Billion Dollar Brain, 1967), Alfred Hitchcock (Frenzy, 1972) and Jack Gold (Aces High, 1976).

Contributing to lasting British pop-culture artefacts, he was also art director on the Cliff Richard vehicle Summer Holiday (1963) and production designer of the revival series The New Avengers (1976). After the popular, action-oriented Alistair Maclean adventure Fear Is the Key (1973), Cain became associated with a brand of high adventure that grew out of the Bond films, working with Peter R Hunt (director of On Her Majesty's Secret Service) on the Moore movies Gold (1974) and Shout at the Devil (1976), both set in Africa, and with the producer Euan Lloyd on a series of boozy, British macho epics – The Wild Geese (1978), The Sea Wolves (1980) and Who Dares Wins (1982).

Cain retired as a production designer after Tusks (1988), but contributed storyboards to a select run of high-profile films, including Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). His final credit was on the Michael Caine boxing movie Shiner (2000). In retirement, he illustrated children's books, wrote an autobiography (Not Forgetting James Bond: The Autobiography of James Bond Production Designer Syd Cain, 2002) and was a well-liked guest at Bond-themed fan events.

Cain was married twice. His five sons and three daughters survive him.

Deliverance actor Bill McKinney died Thursday from cancer of the esophagus, according to his Facebook page.

McKinney, who was 80 when he passed away, was best known for his role as a twisted mountain man who assaulted Ned Beatty's character in 1972's Deliverance. During the scene – which Entertainment Weekly calls "one of the most unsettling scenes ever put on film" – McKinney's character orders his victim to "squeal like a pig."

McKinney had a varied and long career, with parts in television and in films with major stars including Thunderbolt and Lightfoot with Clint Eastwood and The Parallax View with Warren Beatty.

He also had roles in in First Blood, Back to the Future Part III and The Green Mile. In 2010, he appeared in How Do You Know.

"An avid smoker for 25 years of his younger life, he died of cancer of the esophagus," the Facebook announcement reads, going on to reveal that only recently the actor "continued to work on his biography with his writing partner. Hopefully 2012 will bring a publisher for the wild ride his life was.

He is survived by son Clinton, along with several ex-wives."

Harry Morgan, the actor best known for his role as the well-respected, sometimes irascible Colonel Sherman T. Potter in the long-running series "M*A*S*H", died Wednesday morning at his home in Los Angeles.

http://gregbellmedia.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/Harry-Morgan.jpg

He was 96.

He was born Harry Bratsberg on April 10, 1915 in Detroit, Michigan, to Henry and Anna Bratsberg, where his father worked for war hero and car designer Eddie Rickenbacker. Eventually, he moved on to a Mt. Kisco summer stock theater company, where he met and acted regularly with actress Frances Farmer. Ms. Farmer had quite an impact of his life; she promoted his career by involving him to acting classes with Elia Kazan, and also introduced him to her University of Washington classmate Eileen Detchon. Harry's stage career continued to grow, as he joined New York's Group Theater, whose members included Kazan, Karl Malden and Lee J. Cobb. When Hollywood agent Charlie Feldman saw him perform on Broadway, he signed the young actor and had him quickly under studio contract with Twentieth Century Fox, where he changed his name to Henry Morgan.

Harry and Eileen made the move to Hollywood in the early 1942 and his first billed appearance (as Henry Morgan) came that year in To the Shores of Tripoli. To avoid confusion with a popular comedian of the time, another name change soon followed, and he became Harry Morgan. Morgan’s film career prospered, and in the next 5 decades he appeared in many now-legendary dramatic films, including The Ox-Bow Incident, All My Sons, Madame Bovary, High Noon, The Glenn Miller Story, Inherit the Wind, Cimarron, How the West Was Won, Frankie and Johnny, The Apple Dumpling Gang and The Shootist.

While building this impressive film resume, Morgan was simultaneously working regularly in radio and television, with brief roles in "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", "Cavalcade of America" and "The Twentieth Century Fox Hour" before landing the role of comedic neighbor Pete Porter in "December Bride", which eventually lead to the spin-off series "Pete and Gladys". In 1963, his TV career took a turn toward more serious projects, as part of the ensemble in "The Richard Boone Show" and an iconic role as Officer Bill Gannon in 1967’s "Dragnet". The series, and his performance in it, was not only a precursor to modern police and detective series, but would also inform the 1987 film Dragnet, a comedic reimagination of the show starring Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks; Morgan appeared in this film as Captain Bill Gannon.

Despite decades spent working in film and TV, it would be his work in the TV series "M*A*S*H" that made him instantly recognizable around the world. After a memorable, Emmy-nominated guest turn as loony Major General Steele at the beginning of the third season in 1974, Morgan was invited back to join the cast a year later as Colonel Sherman T. Potter, the late-career Army man sent to run the eccentric medical unit after the loss of their previous commanding officer. Morgan's nuanced performance as dedicated leader and surgeon with an unwavering sense of right and wrong combined with a father-like protectiveness of his staff, allowed Potter to grow organically through the long run of the series. The small touches he brought to the role – Potter's paintings were done by Morgan himself, and the picture of Mildred Potter on Potter’s desk was actually Morgan's wife Eileen – only added to the authentic humanity of his portrayal, and in 1980 Morgan won an Emmy for his performance. After the series came to an end in 1983, Morgan continued the role in the short-lived spin-off "AfterMASH".

After the death of his wife Eileen in 1985, he kept himself busy making guest appearances in series such as "The Love Boat" and took a regular role in the single season run of "Blacke's Magic". In December of 1986, he married Barbara Bushman, the granddaughter of silent film star Francis X. Bushman. His work as a TV guest star continued through the late 1990s in "The Simpsons," "3rd Rock from the Sun," "Grace Under Fire", and his final movie work included Family Plan and the short film Crosswalk.

He is survived by Barbara, his sons Christopher, Charles and Paul, and grandchildren Spencer, Rosemary and Jeremy.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Eileen in 1985 and his son Daniel in 1989.
