Trying to cut down on pretty much all sodas myself...though this evening, we grabbed a couple of 2 litre cokes for the first time in, fuckin' ages.
...and it got me to thinking...

Coke is really pretty shit, as is pepsi. They're bland, generic, more "sweetness" than taste and in fact don't really taste all that close to "cola" at all. Coke is the bigger offender here I find, but Pepsi is not far off.
I guess it's just like McDonalds...the shit sells to the masses, because they don't bother to make/find out about/follow up on what's better.
Seriously though, have you guys ever had a real cola? Made by (usually) a smaller company, or hell even a market cola or an organic one?
They taste GREAT, it just makes me wonder...what happened?
Like burgers into McD, like cigars into cigarettes...at some point people just opt for shit...
Anyways, that's my first cola ponderance...try some better colas...funny thing is, most of them by far and wide are cheaper than coke/pepsi.

Lemon in cola...why can no company make a good one?
It tastes completely artificial and like shit...yet if you rock up to a pub/bar/restaurant often you'll get a cola with a bit of ice and a wedge or two of lemon. I fucking can't say how much I love this...and it's just something that no company has ever been able to remotely replicate.

Vanilla coke? You like?
Yknow...if you got regular coke/cola, you could buy some vanilla essence, add that and have a nice (higher than vodka by a mile) alcoholic drink...and yes, again, it would taste better than the commercially made counterpart, in fact significantly so.

Also colas are usually full of sugar...you should really watch the intake, though this goes for the majority of sodas/softdrinks too.

The large clusters of bud on a marijuana plant are sometimes referred to as "colas".
Unrelated.

That's all I had really...

I like Coke from time to time. But I don't drink soda often. I drink sweet tea entirely too much though.

I like Coke but only if it's from a can. I reckon it just tastes like shit from the bottles especially the 2 litre ones.

Organic Cola is killer. There's a brand called Phoenix that brings some out over here that I'll have to give it a spin with a wedge of lemon.

I went off soda for a while, and all sweets really...

But when I have money to blow, I love getting an organic root-beer or ginger soda!

P.S.

Eating chocolate orange, haven't had one in years. :D

Ginger soda?
Hm...
Is it the clear one (we call that ginger ale)
or the cloudy/darker one (known here as ginger beer)?

I like them both, but IMO ginger beer destroys the ale.
We have a company (and place) here called Bundaberg, as well as a few other flavours they put out relatively recently, they've always had a REALLY good ginger beer, really nice, pure, refreshing - if any one of you ever makes it over this way, I'd highly recommend grabbing some, hell, grab a case of the shit.

With you there...really ice cold can...though the glass bottled stuff is also bomb.

Yeah, love it...that taste you just don't get in the commercial bullshit.

I drink sweet tea entirely too much though.
Like commercially sold iced tea products with fruit infusions?
I quite like the green tea ones with peach or mango myself...yeah, pretty good equivalent to soda...funny, it's like these days I've cut down on sugar so damn much that if I have some Coke (etc) I almost immediately get a headache from the sugar...

The darker stuff, it's a bit spicy but I don't mind painful food.....

I did just discover a new love, however. Apple sodas!

Especially Jones green apple flavor....diabetes here I come!

Faygo's cola isn't bad, not great though, and Northwoods Soda has a fantastic Root Beer (I think I prefer it over IBC for sure but it's not as good as REAL A&W Root Beer but they don't even have that at the A&Ws it seems). I've had a lot of unique pops, I try to find obscure beverages ALL the time and try them. I can tell you for sure that I've had some that were a million times as hard to find as a Coke and they were just... bad. I think some of it is a little anti-mainstream idealism that has a bit of an effect on the taste... for some folks anyway. I think lately I've tried more teas than anything though, seems like a new brand popping up daily. Well, teas and energy drinks...

That is my absolute favourite drink. If i can't find bundaberg ginger beer. I will grab some from saxbys. Theirs are alright. Not as good as bundys though.
You can't beat a cold bundy ginger beer on a hot day. especially, when you get one that is extra strong in ginger.

Yeah, those spicy ones you get on occasion are pretty good.
You're right about Saxbys being a pretty decent runner up, actually as an overall brand I think they make probably the nicest range.
