Maybe it's the whole exorcism sub-genre, but I saw the preview for The Last Exorcism before Inception, and it looked dull as hell. Do exorcism movies need to be shelved for a while?

I thought it looked cool. May wait until it is in the dollar theater though.

I'm really intrigued, but mostly because Rue Morgue gave it a positive interview, even before the rabid marketing campaign started. I'm not generally a fan of exorcism/super natural horror, but this does look good.

New York Times Review, in case anyone's interested:

My boyfriend was watching Spike TV the other night and they are promoting the SHIT out of this movie... Which makes me want to see it less, unfortunately. HUGE promotion = retards flooding the theater... It's what happened when I went to see Paranormal Activity in the theater - Really obnoxious teenagers talking, yelling, texting, etc... I'd imagine that the audience would be pretty much the same.

Which SUCKS, because now it's completely turning me off from actually going out to see movies. :(

Anyway. I want to see it. I really do. But to avoid the insipid and obnoxious crowds, I'll wait until it's on Netflix so I can watch it in my darkened apartment - Better atmosphere there anyway.

Eli Roth is attached as a producer so I have high hopes.......

Exorcism is one of my favorite horror sub-genres, although none are as great as vampires. Either way, I'm pretty eager to see this.

And caenxavier, I love your signature - That cascading blood is spellbinding.

Haha sweet. This might be a shot in the dark, but is that clip from House of Wax? I'd love it if that was the one.

i saw it yesterday (while playing hookey from work).

it was ok - not as scary as it could have been. sort of blair witch (but not as smart or even consistent with the 'documentary footage angle' - I hate it when the film is supposed to just be found footage but the camera guy keeps taking really stereotypical establishing shots - even while horrific things are happening - i mean, c'mon, who is being terrorized by a demonic creature and then stops and says 'hey, i think i'll get a good shot of that creepy window with the moon in the background'?? i know artists, lots of them, but even the most dedicated is going to say 'screw the aesthetic moment and get me the hell out of here' - Blair Witch did it with consistency and cleverness and I've always appreciated that).

As for the ending - which has gotten lots of press. I agree that it is unsatisfying and feels tacked on (in fact I bet they tacked it on to avoid the accusation people had that 'nothing happened in blair witch) but it is NOT inconsistent with the rest of the film (an accusation I've heard but if you pay attention to the film is NOT true).

so - rent it if you are really bored but otherwise it is just a film waiting to fill space on SyFy or Chiller's late night programming schedule
