I've been getting through a bunch of his spoken word albums and it's really surprised me by how good it is. Thought it would be totally self indulgent but I was quite wrong on that one.

Sure he goes on about beating off way to much but the dude's got a pretty sharp sense of humor.

He toured here recently and I'm kicking myself for not hoping on the plane and checking it out. Will definitely be there next time.

Anyone been to the shows or get into the albums?

I love his spoken word pieces. He shows a real understanding of human nature. Two of my favorites are "Can You Speak This?" and "I Know You."

I've come to the conclusion lately that Black Flag are my favorite band.

"I Know You."

I love that one too. Reminds me of Bukowski.

I was trying to find the "Eric The Pilot" story on Youtube but gave up.

That story is some crazy shit. Guess I dug it a lot because I hate flying :D

All I've heard from him is his Family Man album with Black Flag. Not a fan, comes off as pretentious if you ask me...never much of a fan of Rollins in general. If you ask me, Keith Morris era Black Flag is where its at.

I got The First Five years ago as a Christmas gift (High Adventure in the Great Outdoors, Pissing in the Gene Pool, Bang!, Art to Choke Hearts, and One From None). It isn't brilliant stuff, but it is sincere, raw, and honest, which is even better.

Idk maybe i should check out some of his other stuff though...as long as its not like his "stand up" haha

Rollins does some good spoken word, though I have been listening to Jello Biafra's stuff lately.

Biafra's spoken word stuff is good. Cracks me up how crazy goes during his rants. His newer stuff is next on my listening list once I get thru this shitload of Rollins albums.

I used to dig the "First Four Years" era the most but now I think the shit with Rollins is infinitely better and more interesting. My War and Slip It In really cement why BF are my favorite band. Rollins does rub people up the wrong way and a few years back I was really over him and thought he was totally self indulgent. Maybe now that I'm old and bitter I can relate to him more :p
I prefer the live stuff to his poetry because it's fucking funny and he has some good shit to say.

Got back into Rollins Band lately too. Weight was one of my favorite albums in high school and it still rips.

and got to hear about my friends running into him at a beach bar that night and how he was such an asshole to everyone.

I love Rollins

I have all his poetry books, most of it is very heavy shit, so completely different than what his does in spoken word shows

god what a prick.

I think its pretty funny, though they say that in their second interview with him that he was a lot nicer.

Its weird, because I hear stories where he is a giant asshole and other stories where he is really nice and shit.

That's a bit extreme. Peple can display a number of different emotional states and behave in different ways without having some mental imbalance.

Ahhh now I know where that "a little bit heavy metal...." sample came from.

Dude was probably having a shitty night (especially if they played to a bunch of assholes attacking them) and couldn't be fucked answering inane questions.
"Are you selling out?"

A documentary on Black Flag is WAY overdue.

seen Hank a few times in the UK...my old man has the books...I Like Hank but usesd to think he was a misogynist, seems to have mellowed more recently....Eric the Pilot is hilarious though. Don't like Black Flag, too metal for me. More Fugazi.....Saw Rollins Band, under sufferance........

Don't like Black Flag

 Get the fuck out! :p

Fugazi were great. A really influential band to me. Never got to see them live but I got to see The Evens who were great. Well... Ian's rants in between songs about "punk" really fucked me off.

I've found Rollins is a person that whose ideology gets taken out of context so much. I forget what he had to say about being called a misogynist... but who hasn't written an angry song/poem said something they shouldn't have when a relationship has come to an end?
