LOS ANGELES, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- AMC says it plans to premiere its new U.S. zombie series "The Walking Dead" on Oct. 31, Halloween.

The first episode of the show -- about the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse -- will be 90 minutes long, the network said Tuesday. Subsequent episodes will be 60 minutes.

Starring Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Jeffrey DeMunn, Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker, the series is based on the comic-book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics.

The show is written, directed and executive produced by Frank Darabont and executive produced by Gale Anne Hurd.

Wow. That looks fucking great. Hopefully better than the comic - I got bored with the soap opera crap.

Plus, it stars Andrew Lincoln, who I fell in love with in a little UK show called "Teachers."

The comics are rad as well. I just had a horrorgasm.

I think they're OK. Then again, I seem to be the only one around who thinks that the writing is just so-so and that they are too much about drama and not enough about people getting eaten by zombies...

This trailer is incredible, its pretty much soothed all my fears about them making a mess of Walking Dead.

This is going to be so awesome, I can't wait. It's also recently been confirmed there will be a season 2.

Wow, thanks for the heads up! I've never read the comic but that trailer looks pretty awesome. It looks surprisingly gory for AMC!

How many other shows get a 2nd season before they even air? Anybody know? That early of a renewal seems pretty rare, and could be a very good sign!
