tell what scary stories have been passed down in your family or just scary stories that you've heard by any means because Im curious how many people have heard a scary story and really got a thrill out of them!

I used to go out with friends and look for the Bunnnyman at Bunnyman Bridge in northern Virginia.

The Bunnyman was an escaped lunatic who like to string up dead bunnies in the trees. He wouldd wear a tattered easter bunny costume and abduct children.

Great urban legend. I never saw him but rumors always swirled around high school about "friends of friends" who saw him or was pursued by him and barely escaped with their lives.

It's all bullshit, but great, fun bullshit.

Staring Stanley - This was a story my brother used to tell me and knowing him it was stolen from some tv show but either way I've then used it against several friends when I was younger.

Stanley was the boy who used to live in my house and his sister used to sleep in my room and he had the other one. Anyway, one day his sister had a sleepover and Stanley, being the pervert that he is crept out into the garden and started peeking through the window at the girlies. I should probably point out around now that I live in a bungalow.

So Stanley was watching the girls intently and failed to notice a roof slate above him begin to come loose. The slate fell down off the roof and hit the poor sod slap bang on the top of his head, killing him instantly. The family moved away, traumatised by what had happened...but Stanley remained. Still watching, still just peering through the glass at you as you laid there in bed.

The thing that used to make this story so creepy was how little Stanley did. It wasn't a case of "he kills you in the night if you dare look at him", because of course my brother being the twisted bastard he is knows that when I wake up alive I'd know it was a load of balls. No, Stanley just watches. Always watching...

Going on a Wierd NJ adventure about 8+ years ago landed me and a couple friends at Essex County Hospital. We found a whole library of books and legers which kept daily and yearly reports on different wings of the hospital. I took one when leaving and read it later that week. The whole book was on monitoring two girls who seemed to be crazy and trouble makers. Everything was recorded including perscriptions and what they were for to their punishments for acting out. Almost every day they were in the reports for something they had done. They just seemed to be a couple of crazy ladies til i got to almost the end of the book which was june of 1916 or somewhere round then i think( I lost the book a while ago) when it was stated that the nurses had taken a vote and voted to not allow the two girls to their high school prom cause of all the trouble they had caused. The two paranoid schizophrenic girls were only 16yrs old.

In elementary school there was this old guy who lived in a house just behind the chain link fence. He was grumpy, hated kids, stereotypical crotchety old coot.

He had this statue in his back yard of a man with a large head sitting down, it was pretty creepy and sort of looked like an old Aztec statue, anyway, we all called him the tikki-tikki man. It was said that if you made the old man angry he would curse you and the tikki-tikki man would try to kill you. He couldn't directly kill you during the day, but at sundown he could rise and walk and if you were near the school he would kill you in some never described horrible way.

We decided to try this out one day by having the most impressionable kid in our group go over the fence. He went over and kicked the tikki man, we all ran off and had a good laugh, the kid was freaking out for the rest of the day. His chair fell over on him, he got nailed in the face with a dodge-ball and got a black eye, and the next day a branch from the old man's tree nearly hit him on the head.

The following weekend a friend and I went into school grounds at sundown, we did some sort of "ritual" we made up to rid our friend of the curse involving some sort of "holy water", garlic and impromptu chanting.

Come Monday the tikki man was gone from the old man's yard. Scarred the piss out of us for a good, long time.

My Mother was born in 1977, so she grew up with '80s horror movies. When we were living with my Grandmother there was a creepy half-shed, half-house behind it. One of my uncles stayed there for a little while but when he moved everyone just tossed their things into it. I liked to play in there because there was an old-timey radio and creeky door. The attic was on the end opposite the door and was impossible for a kid to reach with all the clutter.

Mom remembered the movie "Madman" and it's villain, Madman Marz. She told me about him and it creeped me out quite a bit being five or so at the time. One of the cousins I lived with heard her tell me about him. He told me that Madman Marz was just his nickname and he lived in the attic. He kept to himself and would eat rats and squirrels he found around the shed. My cousin said if he ever heard his real name he would come out and attack the person who said it with an axe, but he wouldn't tell me his real name, saying he was afraid to be heard. That started me in the phase of calling everybody "man" "buddy" and "sir" around the shed.

Haha! Love that little end bit, Mass. To be honest, the inventiveness of older siblings and cousins when trying to scare their younger relatives is quite impressive.

Hate typing long stories, so i'll give the short version. When I was around 10-11 my friends and I played outside near this house in our neighborhood that was empty. It wasn't run down or eerie, it just happened that no one lived there. In the basement of this empty house was a small crawlspace to a tiny, pitch black room. The cliche 'older kids' in the neighborhood told us a story about a man who shot his wife and kids and dumped them in the crawlspace in the 70's and left them there to rot. We used to get in that house (somehow, I think there was an unlatched window) and investigate the crawlspace. It was sealed with a small, spooky wooden door, but it wasn't locked. We always dared eachother to go inside and see if there were skeletons, but of course, being 10 years old we were chicken shit. Never did get in that crawlspace, but to this day kids in my old neighborhood around the age of 9-12 know that story, and no one has ever actually looked (that I know of). The house is inhabited now, as far as I could tell last time I visited my old town.

When I was younger and in a band. We used to practice at an abandoned school and there were always rumors of it being haunted.(I personally do not believe in ghosts)When you enter the building there is a long hallway with classrooms all down it. Directly to your left is a set of stairs that takes you up to the second floor which is an exact replica of the bottom hallway. There are steps leading up to the second floor and both ends of the hallway. Our room was at the very end of the hallway on the second floor next to a set of steps. At the bottom of these steps was a vending machine.

One day I was there by myself before any of the other members had arrived and I was quite hungry because I had just smoked a joint. I left the room and went down the stairs and approached the vending machine. From the vending machine I can see directly up the stairs and see the open door to my room. While I'm standing there deciding what is going to help me quench this attack of the munchies I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. As I turned and looked I saw a man turn and walk directly into my room.

This person did not look familiar to me and I quickly shot up the stairs because we had been having problems with people breaking into rooms and stealing equipment. As I entered the room there was no one there. Not a soul. I scanned it and I kept looking around, even though the entire room is visible from the minute you enter the door. I looked back outside the door and down the hallway. At the time I really didn't know what it was, and a ghost wasn't the first thing that came to my mind. But as the day went on I gradually accepted the idea that it may have very well been a ghost.

To this day I still don't know what or who it was that I saw go into the room. Granted I was stoned out of my head, but I know a person when I see one and I saw a person enter my room.

posher there are some great stories about closed doors and dark places so I thank you, also spook house yours also seems realistic and creepy and of course there is always the chance that your band played a trick on you with a camera but then again many ghost stories are out there even some true ones so great story and keep them coming!

Yeah. You know I thought about it being my band playing a trick on me. But in this building from where I was standing I could see the only entrance into the building. It would make a lot more sense to me if my band was playing that trick on me, it would explain a lot.

The abandoned school had lots of crazy stories because it had been around for so long. And the stairs to the basement were very tiny and wooden, not sturdy at all and they went down at a complete 90 degree angle. Down in that basement were giant generators and hidden rooms. Just an absolutely creepy atmosphere.
