Although i pretty much hate new horror movies i couldnt help but to go see the new NOES. I didnt expect much from it so i wasnt blown away or terribly disappointed. Micheal Bay sucks ass reguarding horror and has no business doing anything related to it. Horrible blends of the first one which only pissed off people who knew enough of the original to be able to tell what scenes were trying to be redone. Im sure they'll be mixed reviews about this but i thought Jackie Earl Haley did a Great job as the new freddy. Took a lil bit to get used to but he still was creepy and his body language was sort of kept freddyesque so to speak. Kinda tough not seeing his as Rorschach though. Overall i didnt hate the movie cause i knew what i was going to see with Bay as the director. I expected BOO kinda scares and that is what i got. Unfortunetly that is the only way to scare an audience nowadys. Anyway i want opinions, thoughts, reactions, etc.
Im posting from my phone which sucks. can an administrator or moderator delete one of these please.

I'm going to see this movie later today.
Michael Bay is actually the producer, not the director. The director is some guy that is known for making music videos.
When you said:
"Micheal Bay sucks ass reguarding horror and has no business doing anything related to it."
I'll actually have to correct you here, Michael Bay sucks ass regarding ANY kind of movie he is involved with. I hate the fact that I'm going to see a movie he produced. But I'm still looking forward to this.

Really? Am I the only one that didn't like those? Well, I suppose Friday the 13th was fun enough, but I really didn't like the TCM remake at all.

I really liked the New Nightmare on Elm Street movie, I took my girlfriend to see it last night. It was packed, seen a lot of people I hadn't seen in years or I do not see on a regular basis, anyways. I noticed quite a few scenes that were attempted to be redone. Uhm, I noticed some similarities between some of the character names from both the '84 version and the '10 version, but I must really say, I liked the newer ending better than the original. Sorry to say.
Oh, and one more thing; The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th remakes were actually pretty decent. Some of the older franchise installments were kinda cheesy to begin with, so I kinda like the modernesque of the newer films.

I think Friday the 13th got mixed feeling from most horror fans and TCM seemed popular enough..

It sucked. Platinum Dunes alsway do it wrong. They are patholigically incapable of creating a protagonist you can root for.
Boring, weak, uninspired and flat. I hated the Friday 13 remake and TCM, but both of those are better than this film. Jackie Earl Haley is wasted. there is nothing redeeming about this flick. I couldn't care about anyone in this film.
I took my twelve year-old son last night and he thought it was "okay." Not exactly a stunning endorsement from the movie going youth.

I thought the F13 and TCM remakes were pretty weak and I have absolutely no interest in the new "Nightmare"

As we're getting used to of watching needless & disaster version of an original classic so I'm going to watch it anyway as soon as it get available here.

In the name of all that's sacred, PLEASE stop this plague of remakes!!
The Omen
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Carrie
The Shining
Friday The 13th
Psycho
The Wicker Man
Black Christmas
Carnival Of Souls
Night Of The Living Dead
At least attempt to do something different with these films while still paying them the respect they deserve (Rob Zombie's Halloween for example).

I despised Friday the 13th and Halloween remakes. Wasn't aware the new NOES was out yet, I'm pretty sure we're gonna have to wait a while here. Either way I'm too young to legally see it in a cinema so doesn't really matter. I'll probably rent it when it comes out on DVD. I'm expecting good things from Jackie.

You're also forgetting the Hills have eyes. That was also a remake of an old classic.
@Topic: The reason why I enjoy watching franchise reboots is because, I'm only nineteen years old. I didn't grow up in the slasher film era of the 1980s. I was born in 1991. The year Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare was released in theaters. And since all these reboot slasher films of classic icons are being released, I feel that I hadn't really missed out afterall. So I say: Bravo?
I don't know..I actually did enjoy watching the remakes of Friday the 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, and A Nightmare on Elm Street, I mean they were pretty alright movies, and they really weren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be. :S

My 18 year old daughter watched the entire Nightmare series on DVD, and thinks the remake is a travesty.
Robert Englund is king.
Other bad remakes:
Last House On The Left
Salem's Lot
The Fog

I gotta say I did enjoy this remake. The only thing I thought was a problem was the age of the actors vs. the age of the characters they were supposed to be playing. They were supposed to be in high school? They all looked almost as old as their parents.
I liked the way the backstory was filled in, I liked all the kills, I liked the very end. And I liked the way Freddy looked, it was well done.
Nothing will replace the original NOES, but this was a good reboot, it happens in comics all the time and as long as its well done, I don't have a problem with it.
I can understand liking the amytville, TCM and other remakes that make them more 'modern' but just my personal tastes I didn't like those particular remakes at all, and most remakes I do not like at all whatsoever.

I'm interested in seeing how this one is executed. Myers, Jason and Leatherface were just dudes in masks than pretty much anyone with a big frame could play. I wasn't to see exactly how they'll do an character like Freddy that had actual dialogue and a personality.

Rod hit the nail on the head, completely uninspired. It was a waste of my time and money. I knew I would hate it and only went to see how much. The last 5 seconds were the best part of the whole waste of film that it was.

Yeah, I'm only 19. And I bought the entire Nightmare series on DVD. wasn't too big on Nightmare 4 or 5 although I liked them a lot. I just prefered the first 3 Nightmare movies overall. and Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. The new movie, was a movie I actually liked. But it had it's pros and cons. I wouldn't say it was a bad movie overall even without Robert Englund as freddy, it was still a pretty enjoyable movie, I think.

I liked Jackie Earle Hayley's intensity as Freddy Krueger though. Although I think he looked a bit too thin in some scenes. I liked his acting, and the anger that Freddy Krueger expressed in this new movie.

I think that without JEH the entire movie would of failed. He is the shining point of the movie.

You know what I think of the new "Nightmare on Elm Street"?
*loud fart*
That's what I think of it.
It was interesting to see some more background on Freddy... but this movie just plain sucked. I didn't like the feel of it at all. WAAAAAY too much CGI, and it was pretty fake looking. I wish film makers would get the the hint... use CGI as an accent piece (or better yet, not at all), not the whole damn scene.
But I digress.
I'm actually pissed at myself for seeing this in theaters. I think I saw it because I stopped by the theater on a whim, and it was the only thing that played really soon. My bad. Lesson learned.
What did you folks think about it? Love it, hate it?

I can't think of a single remake in the last decade that was any good.

I also enjoyed TCM and (I'm prolly on my own on this) LHOTL.

The new TCM actually wasn't bad. But did they have to kill that sweet Bronco!?! :D
Hate seeing old cars destroyed... especially when they're on screen for just a minute.

it could have been the Friday the 13th remake! I didn't mind it but neither this nor any of the sequels beat the original.

Hated it. Was the first time I ever wished for the cast to die. I usually relate to the characters, but this time I just wanted them to die.
The deaths were boring and the ending wasn't shocking or anything... actually I was hoping that Nancy ended up being some twisted child who had convinced all her friends to falsly accused Freddy of abuse and got him killed.
Nope. And not showing the photos of what he did to them was also lame. At least that would creep me out a little bit.
What a waste... Freddy is one of the best characters ever created and it pisses me off how NO ONE can make a decent film out of it. :(
