ThunderCats animated series in 2011
Cartoon Network will be airing a “21st century reimagining” of the popular animated series ThunderCats next year.
The new series promises to appeal to fans of the original and newcomers. A press release says the show will be “a sweeping tale combining swords and science, and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes.”
The original series, which followed a team of feline humanoids from the planet Thundera, ran from 1985 to 1990 and spanned a TV movie and numerous toys and comics. A feature film was announced in 2007, but has been stuck in development hell ever since. It is hoped the new anime-inspired series will generate new interest in the franchise.
Warner Bros. Animation will co-produce the project with Japanese animation firm Studio4°C.
