Yes, i'm at it again. After re-watching Jaws I figured i'd make another sea monster fan freak thread. Anyone have any personal favorites? This can be movie related, or mythology, artwork, poems, literary... anything.

I'll go ahead and spew.

The Kraken trumps all.

Jaws (Bruce)

Cthulhu (Literature, although Metallica managed to write a song that makes me really think about the story)

Charybdis (Spell check) From the Odyssey.

Cloverfield.

The Host monster
The Oil Slick monster from the Stephen King short story The Raft
The Loch Ness monster (there was an unusual documentary/comedy/horror film with Werner Herzog called Incident At Loch Ness which was pretty cool)

Sorry bud, but Cthulhu trumps all. Even though it's kind of from space and the sea. R'lyeh is sunken under the South Pacific, but Cthulhu was born on Vhoorl. So it could be considered both an alien and a sea creature.

Others I like are:

Kraken
Lake Okanagen Monster (Ogopogo)
Giant squid from 20,000 Leagues

Yeah Cthulhu was from space, but you wouldn't think of him as an alien. He's always been a sea monster imo.

I will agree. The marine setting for mosst of Lovecraft's works that I have read make me think more of watery menaces. Dagon and Shadow Over Innsmouth for example. BUT I also think of Star Spawn and other crazy outerspace creatures.

Hehe star spawn. >=)

How about Jaws? He gets some mixed feelings but I think that movie is awesome.

English water hags are awesome. Creatures like Jenny Greenteeth and Peg Powler and the creature from legend Meg Muckle that was based on them are cool and scary. The Welsh Afanc is a giant beaver, which is cool because it's just so damn weird. But the best of all sea monsters in my opinion would have to be Godzilla.

Yeah, Bloop is pretty friggin awesome.

...

In terms of local Monsters, I love Champ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champ_%28cryptozoology%29).

Mythology and literature: The Kraken, hands down. Epic.

I also really dig sirens...

I heard of the Champ. He seems more like a friendly monster though, right? Boooo!

Well, as "friendly" as Nessie, I suppose...

I love cryptozoology! It seems like every deep lake in the world has its own Nessie. Two more:

The Giant Squid (now confirmed)
The Montauk Monster- a local story with many theories as to what this might be (Plum Island experiment?)http://aidanoc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/montauk-monster2.jpg

If you ask me it's either a boxer dog or a fake. Put your finger over the upper jaw and you can see the similarities more clearly.

The most popular theory is that it's a raccoon.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a raccoon or something... Regardless, I LOVE cryptozoology. And Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus was pretty outstanding...

Eugh. I was really hoping it would be so bad that it was good, and the scenes that the beasts were in WERE. But the rest of it just angered me...

Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus lacked one thing.

Scenes with the octopus. There were like.... 3

In the end, this was my main problem with the film too. Mega Shark could have used more screen time as well.

I think that bugger is a clever special effects prop made out of silicone!

The Loch Ness Monster, however, is my favorite water bugaboo. Despite the fact that it is in a lake. I don't care if it doesn't exist, I like the idea of it enough that its real/non-real status is irrelevant!

I think HDC should introduce random drug testing because some people here are talking about Mega Shark v Giant Octopus as if it isnt one of the most god awful films ever made!

It came from beneath the sea, now that was an impressive sea monster. It tore San Francisco a new one

Some of us enjoy films that are so bad they're good. I don't think anyone here actually thought the film was well made.

As for It Came From Beneath The Sea, hmmm.:rolleyes:http://www.evl.uic.edu/aej/527/pics/octopus.jpg
