Cheeba mentioned JP4 in another thread (in tv) so i figured i would open this up

Anyone else read both books AND see the movies?

I liked JP 1, and i can tolerate Lost world, but i have some major gripes about it.
#1, Julianne Moore could not have possibly been a worse choice for Sarah Harding. that character was my favorite in the book. She was short, stocky, brown haired, muscular, and most of all, SMART. In the movie she is "Independant", whiah, as usual in movies, means she is an idiot who takes stupid risks for no other reason than to show the audience she is "strong" and doesnt have to listen to a man....

I like strong women, REAL strong women. Not pig-headed morons.

Plus, I hated how they condensed both kids from the book into one little black girl, and guess what? She is malcom's kid! Yay!

Blech. That character was the absolute WORST case of flagrant pc-ism i have seen in a movie.

"Awww, dont we have a cute little family, a white woman, a jewish dad and a black girl". Why didnt they have a hispanic granpa and asian grandma? Dont take this as racism, it very much isnt. Had they been more subtle about it, i would have been okay with it. What they did was just pathetic.

The book was AWESOME, the movie just so-so. I realise they had to basically live with changes made in the first movie (like dodgeson, who was the antagonist inn the second book, but such a minor part of the first movie, noone who know who the hell he was), but they went a tad too far.

At any rate, I always loved these movies, because i have been a dinosaur obsessed freak since i was a kid. i even contemplated going to school to become a paleontologist, but decided i wanted a job i could make money with.

Oh, i like the 3rd one. it didnt even try to be anything other than what it was:

People get stranded on island, get attacked and eaten by dinosaurs. It was beautiful init's simplicity..

However, had Spinosaurus not been the star of the picture, T-Rex would have owned his ass. Spinosaurus was only a foot or two longer, and most scientists believe that size aside, t-rex was the best large hunter of his time.

I thought the Lost Worl was the weakest of the JP movies. I even thought the 3rd was superior to it. Just my opinion though.

I had read the book before the original movie, the movie had me in awe but there was a part of me that missed bits from the book but that was inevitable. I liked part two but it is inferior. I was really impressed with part three, it was great having another one to see in the movie theatre. Like Star Wars, as soon as I hear that theme tune I get excited! Am looking forward to part 4 very much.

To me, the first JP was brilliant. I loved it and probably saw the film about hundred times. It was tense, smart and funny all at the same time! Fine family fun! The others, however, severely disappointed me. I read the first book, but stopped there.

Perhaps my fascination with dinosaurs diminished a little...

Im a huge fan of one and three but part two I had alot of problems with. My philosphy is that if you are going to make a movie based on the book at least TRY to stay with the original material. Thats why I have hated most Michael Crichton Book turned movie adaptations. As for 3 I agree with Vod, it was big stupid fun and didnt try to be something its not

I've never read the books, but the original movie is one of my all-time favorites. Didn't care for the other 2 though.

Read the first one, saw the first one, loved it, saw the second and lost interest in the series entirely.

I like the Jurassic Park movies and personally the velociraptors are my favourite dinosaurs in the whole series, and in my opinion the most dangerous. There's something very anoying about being faced with a t rex and shouting "don't move", and everybody starts running and screaming, etc.

As far as I remember though, nobody shot the dinosaurs. There's the English Robert Muldoon in the first one who was about to, but wasted too much time admiring the dino who was staring him in the face.

How annoying. If I was in Jurassic park, I'd want to kill everything that gave me the opportunity. That's if I had a gun and the thing wasn't the size of a whale. I'm not stupid.
