I am finding that as my collection has been pettymuch from scratch, the box sets of some of the 'basic' horrors is a cheaper way of doing things. x
After the tax man, kids, mother and various others have had their cut, and i have realised I need food, fags and beer, there isn't much spare each month x

I've actually never watched the Alien movies (Although I almost bought the AVP: Total Destruction boxed set yesterday; That set comes with all Alien movies, both Predator movies and both cross-over films.)
And I've never seen any of the Hellraiser movies.

Being intrigued i just counted all my dvds. Total of 97, 72 of which are horror based. Because of the wonderful invention of netflix i havent bought a DVD in about a year. I even surprised myself after counting all the horror movies i own.

If you're counting tapes as well as DVDs, I have over 300 easily. The only complete "franchise" I have is Evil Dead.
I have some Friday and Nightmare movies but not all. Most were Christmas gifts from my kids, lol. "Dad loves horror movies, lets get him this DVD with Nightmare 1-4 on it"
Which is appreciated, lol. But other than the first Nightmare, I wouldn't have actively sought to add the sequels to my collection.

I like obscure stuff, like Trilogy Of Terror and Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark, that I own.
And I just like horror movies that strike a chord with me. Don't have to be good films really, just ones that I connect with. I burn a lot of my old VHS tapes to DVD, but I have a ton more to convert.

And, of course, I have all of the classic Universal films on DVD. That was the most fun part of my collection to put together.

I know I wont get my whole collection up here now, but what I can remember off hand at least.

Nightmare on Elm Stree.(Complete Box Set)
Friday the 13th(original)
Suspiria
Do you like Hitchcock?
Inside
Martyrs
Phantasm
Rest Stop
Texas Chainsaw Massacre(original)
The Hills Have Eyes(both original and remake)
Premonition
Cello
2LDK
Saw 1-4 maybe 5 i forget
Pan's Labyrinth
The Decent
Lake Placid
Master's of Horror presents:Dario Argento's Pelts
Sweeney Todd:The Demon barber of Fleet street
The Devil Bat
The Shining
Silent Hill
Rose Red
IT
Poltergeist
Thirteen Ghosts

That's all I can remember that I have right now. I have a lot more movies some that aren't horror, but I wont list those that's no fun on a horror forum imo, there just comedies, and drama's mainly. It would take forever to list my collection.

My wife and I have so many tapes and dvd's its ridiculous. Hundreds. I only have about a 100 in my room right now. The tapes are boxed up and older dvds are boxed up as well. Its mostly my wifes fault. For some reason, she has to own them. I prolly have around 200 horror films

I have about 700 DVDs. I stopped collecting a few years ago with Netflix and the ability to purchase streaming on line. Every now and then when I find something I really love, I'll buy it.

Should have seen urgeoks collection when he was still around. I think he had close to 10,000 movies with DVDs, laser discs, VHS and beta combined. The pics of his storage room were insane.

TheWickerFan

I probably have somewhere between 500-1,000 DVDs. I didn't see the point in keeping the VHS tapes as it all got replaced. The whole rewinding/tapes wearing out where they get stopped consistently wasn't a lot of fun.

Honestly! Those guilty of having your movie collection boxed up, in storage, or not even under the same roof should be ashamed of themselves.:p

I have a modest 200-300 horror dvds. I've only been seriously collecting horror dvds in the last few years as before then it was more cds (I've never dared to count them-as an idea how many I have, I've added about 600 in just the last few months lol. However as I've grown up watching a ridiculous amount of horror from a very young age I only tend to get dvds of films I haven't seen. If I start collecting the films I've seen as well then I should build up a better collection. I'm sure I'll enjoy watching them the second time round as I did with Tenebrae recently.

Didn't he have a room built just for his movies, books, and collectibles? I seem to remember him posting pictures of it.

That sounds amazing. I hope it had high ceilings with shelves stretching to the top and an attached ladder that you can roll along.

Probably a couple of hundred. I won't bore you with all the details, but I'm happy with my Dario Argento collection, my ltd edition Event Horizon box and the still sealed, signed ltd edition snuff edition copies of AUM and AUP.

My collection keeps growing now that Tesco, ASDA etc are all keeping to see who can sell the most DVDs for the least movies. Unfortunately, it appears to be mostly recent horrors which tend to be a little dumbed down (Zombieland and Let the Right One In are excused).

Yeah, he converted a spare room into a library. Took him ages, but the finished product was pretty awesome, as I recall!

I do not know how many DVDs I have but I think I have perhaps 700 titles and they are all science fiction, fantasy and horror save a few paranormal romance and some yoga and bellydance and occult instruction videos. I have around 6 to 10 000 books which are all science fiction, fantasy, horror, occultism, New Age and alternative medicine, I also have perhaps 250 or so video games though I have not counted them, again they are science fiction, fantasy and horror. I have no idea how many comics I have, I also have a small collection of magazines about fantasy, science fiction, horror, New Age and the occult.

I am in the process of converting a storage room into a library, in addition we have shelves on nearly all the walls in the living room and I have shelves for my occult books covering one entire wall of my ritual room.

Youve got some collection there. The only Steven King one I dont see there is Rose Red. Ive got that one and The Shining. there about the only Steven King I have left. Most of mine were on vhs and I sold them because I didnt have room for them. I have a good collection of horror and sci fi on dvd, about 500. Thats too many to list here but I might put some of them on later.

Rose Red is one of my favs but its quite expensive in region 2

Can you not get a zone free DVD player, a whole world opens up with movies if one can watch other than zone 2, and besides VLC media player on the PC play most zone 1 movies with no problem. Oh and I recommend the Green Mile, I love that movie, it is spot on if you look at it from the perspective of the book. :)

The Green Mile is one of the vhs tapes I got rid of and Ive regretted it ever since. Book and movie were equally good.

I am a little bit like that myself to, I like playing movies on my PS3, I think it gives good picture quality. However for some of the obscure horror films I enjoy there just is no Pal release and then I have to use a zone free DVD player.

I believe its pretty easy to go online and find a hack for your dvd player to make it region free. I believe you can find codes that you enter with the remote. I've never done this so i've never really studied up on it.

That is what we did, we used a code we found online codes which we used to make our DVD player zone free. Though it will not work on every DVD player, though I think that there are lists online that will tell you which DVD players this will work with and not.

You can get a cheap DVD player for as little as 30 bucks now a days so they are not a huge investment. My mother just bought one for the camping wagon she have her vacations in for 30 bucks a few weeks ago.

Hi Seymour, you have a very basic collection, I suggest you start to buy rare horror films that you have never heard of instead of the most popular ones in the future... You will travel to other worlds by doing so and apreciate the genre in far more many ways.
