This may seem strange but the rock station here did a huge VS to see if they could crown the best band ever. It came down to Metallica, Tool and Pearl Jam. I know, I don't think either of these three are the best ever by any means but: I wanted to post it on here to see who got the most votes out of these three bands in a VS.

Metallica. No contest. Say what you will about their later era shit... they used to shred pretty fucking hard.

I can't stand Eddie vedder, Pearl jam use to be pretty good, but lately I can't stand them. Not to mention that Metallica made Master of Puppets, so despite Load, Reload, S&M, and St Anger they still top Pearl Jam. As far as tool, I like some of their stop, but I'm not real into them.

Yeah, I wouldn't put any of these guys anywhere near "best band ever".
Given the choices, I'd go for Metallica, I guess.

Tool is the only one of the three I find even remotely interesting. In their best work they stretch the limitations of musical expression. They once toured with King Crimson- another band who did their best to innovate and expand the pallette of musical expression.

Agreed, after Pearl Jam's last album The Fixer I had enough and sold all my PJ albums.

Metallica streched the limitations of musical expression WAY more than Tool. They were way more pioneering.
Tool are just a weak and boring knockoff of Neurosis (who totally fucking rule btw)

I want to know why Pearl Jan is on that list. Used to like them but wouldn't call them pioneers or anything. Metallica would have to inch out Tool for me, though in their day Tool could create something of a religious experience. Metallica on the other hand is timeless. How can you not rock it out when you hear a song - speaking of which I could use a little Last Caress right about now... (that would be my badass Metallica face there)
