Animes usually retarded, and anything but scary. But there are really some awesome movies that even I today as a young adult love to watch every now and again. Anime can do things that real time movies cant. Heres a list of the best horror anime ive compiled since I was a kid. Theres not a lot of anime in the genre of horror so the list is rather slim pickings.

If any of you have any others please post!

Whether you like or hate anime, I recommend picking these up.

1: Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0Rj7nn0ZVs
(this was intended to be filmed as a live action sequence but an earthquake damaged the studio that was to pick it up and so it was sent to Satoshi Kon to be fast tracked into an anime. The BEST anime period and top 5 best horror movies of all time! Anime or Real time, hands down a great film!)

2: Vampire Hunter D and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
(classic anime horror one of the first animes to hit America aswell in the early 70's. Classic story about the most powerful Dunpeal [half breed spawn of a vampire and a human] vampire hunter that is the son of the vampire king Count Dracula. Amazing gothic art!)

3: Satoshi Kon's Paranoia Agent

4: Blood the Last Vampire

5: Twilight of the Dark Master

6: Wicked City

7: Elfen Lied

8: Berserk

Ok, but seriously...

Check out Paprika (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0851578/). More scifi than horror, though it's generally classified as horror... Regardless, it's spec-tac-cu-lar.

[Also: I really liked Howl's Moving Castle (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0347149/) and do not find it retarded at all.]

Perfect Blue was completely amazing. It got me so into it at the end that I wasn't sure what was real, or if I was going crazy.

Elfen Lied gets maaaajor points from me for gore and amputation galore.

Paprika, like Chrono said, was spectacular. I have never been so afraid of a refrigerator. Watch the movie and I am sure you will know what I mean. The ending was a tear jerker for me. Freaky and cute and heartfelt all at once.

A lot of people said they like Gantz, and I couldn't agree more. At first I couldn't get into it because it was all about a guy getting boners in public. Sorry, but I can't relate. But, I stuck through it and watched both seasons in about a week. By the end of the second season I was so depressed and scared. The end of the anime is a little bit lame. HOWEVER, the manga is ongoing and really adds to the series. If you want to see the only survivor continue his journey read it, it's free online if you know how to use google.

If anyone wants good guro manga read Jinji Ito's stuff. He wrote Tomei, and Uzumaki. The Battle Royale manga is really intense if you want to go there too.

Fuck colour, you couldn't pick out all the detail as well if it wasn't in black and white. The fine lines, the shading, the beauty. Nothing beats manga for pretty, pretty gore. Story behind that one is a boy and his sister live with their uncle above a fry shop. He became obsessed with oil and started drinking left over cooking oil. Eventually he hit puberty and got break outs and she teased him. So he kept doing it purposefully to get really bad acne and get his revenge on her.

Took me forever to find that picture too. I have more coming.

I haven't seen much of J-Anime except Perfect Blue, Paparika, VHD and Spirited Away.

Thanks for the recs. I'll try to check those out, but the usual problem is there's not enough J-Animes are available at our local stores...specially it's very rare to find the Hentai ones here:(.
