Decaying Odor

I seem to be having an issue, removing this decaying/rotting odor from a few things. I have tried quite a few sprays and other household products to remove it, and nothing seems to be working.

Any suggestions on the removal of this?

The odor comes from a cross between mold, and some dead animals that found their way into some things I had stored away. Rats and other critters. They wound up getting into my things, dieing and rotting.

The objects inside, are random things I've collected over the years. I do not wish to part with them, but the odor must go. Plastic, paper and rubber items are part of it. The odor is leaving the plastics after a few sprays of mold/odor remover. The objects that are made out of rubber and paper, I seem to be having quite a bit of difficulty getting the odor to leave.

While the mold is quite extensive, I have gotten rid of it. It's the remaining, rotting aroma that I am having problems with.

5. De-Stinkify Your Book
Despite your best efforts, your book smells musty or mildewed, or just old. There's an easy solution... You will need two plastic containers--one that will fit inside the other one. Pour some kitty litter in the bottom of the larger container. Place your book into the smaller container (without the lid), then put the small plastic container into the larger container. Place the lid on the larger plastic container. You can leave the book in this book de-stinkifier for a month--to remove the odor (and any moisture) from the book.

Tips:

1. You can also use baking soda or charcoal in your book de-stinkifier.

Yeah, there are all kinds of books, as well as cardboard boxes that some of the things came in originally. Every bit of it is covered in mold. About 40 large boxes full of stuff. This is taking forever to finish.

Where did you have them stored? I had some shit I had stored awhile back get fucked up by flooding but most of it survived. As much as it sucks its better to dump shit if its fucked up... sometimes there's no saving it.

There is a container like they use on boats to carry stuff behind my house. One of those really thick steel containers. Stored shit in it for years with my problem. But the humidity got really bad here last two years. The thing was packed tight full of stuff. Everything was molded. You still about have to wear a breathing mask to walk into it, it's so strong.

I'm trying to salvage what I can. A lot of it I am having to throw out. But I want to save as much of it as possible.

There were only a few of the boxes that the rats and shit got in. That's the most difficult smell to get rid of. Rubber especially. It retains the odor extremely well.
