1. Dawn of the Dead (1978)
2. I think they are. There has been so much crap done over and over, people just eventually get used to it and it doesnt bother them. It was still relatively new in th 50's.
3. I feel that horror is just popular now as in the 70's and 80's. With so many different subgenres of horror nowadays its hard to argue otherwise.
4. I'm not a huge fan of the documentary style films, but it appears to me as if they get the job done (Paranormal Activity).
5. I do agree. The original TCM is one of my favorite horror flicks because of that.
6. Its hard to tell. They were more explicit for their time, but I dont know about more explicit as compared to today. Theres lots of crazy stuff out there.
7. I definitely do. There is still an unbelievable fan base for horror films. They are just as important to culture today as any other films in my opinion. But its biased ;)
8. I don't believe it was the death of the horror film per se, but it was a decline. I just believe that thw quality of films being put out was low. Too many people trying to do new things that sucked. You can't forget your roots.
9. I believe any time a writer/director does a slasher film, he plays the shower scene from Psycho in his head.
10. I don't believe the horror film is dead, but I believe a revolution in horror films is more than possible.

Thankyou very much for the replies so far they have been very helpful indeed.

These two questions are aimed at you however answers are welcome from everybody.

1.Do you think that censorship regulations had an effect on the way TCM was lit or was the low level lighting deliberate to make it scarier?

2. Does more slashing = a better horror movie or are the censors right to restrict gore?

Again any replies are greatly appreciated!!!

1. I believe it was deliberate.

2. More slashing doesn't necessarily make it a better movie, and the censors should have no right to restrict anything.

What is your favorite Horror film? The original Dawn of the Dead

Do you feel Horror films are as popular now as they were in the 70s and 80s? Yes imo they are more popular, just look at all the god awful remakes that are topping the box offices.

Do you feel that documentary style films such as The Blair Witch Project (1999) and Cloverfield (2008), are more effective at scaring the audiences as opposed to Studio lit Films such as Saw (2004).
Very much indeed, look at Parnormal Activity, the people who are not avid horror watchers thought it was real just like the blair witch. IMO these types of films are much more realistic, and have better viewing experiences.

5. Do you feel that the lighting in the original 1974 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was more effective at scaring the audience as opposed to the 2003 remake? Definitely!

6. Do you feel that Horror films in the 70s and 80s were more explicit than today? Yes and No, few film in that period were banned here in the states or other countries. But in today's standards films hardly ever reach that, times change, directors these days want to make viewers grab onto their seat tightly, make their hair stand up, and just plain old gross them out and say "WTF".

7. Do you feel that Horror films still have their place in modern-day society?
Yes, as technology evolves so does our horror films, with the internet and social networking sites, its just a real live horror movie waiting to happen.

8. Do you agree that 90s saw the death of the Horror film and why?
I would say the early 90's yes, then in the late 90's slashers and horror was coming back thanks to Wes Craven and his "Scream" trilogy, from there on you just kept seeing more and more horror films being released every year.

9. Psycho (1960) is one of the most famous Horror films ever made; does it still have an impact on the modern day Horror film?
I don't believe it does.

1. What is your favourite Horror film? Hellraiser

2. Do you feel that today’s audience are more desensitized as opposed to a 1950s audience and why? I wouldn't say that, I just feel if you watch the horror movie time line, something else scares them.

3. Do you feel Horror films are as popular now as they were in the 70s and 80s? Far more popular, last I check an average of 800 horror movies were being made per year since 2006.

4. Do you feel that documentary style films such as The Blair Witch Project (1999) and Cloverfield (2008), are more effective at scaring the audiences as opposed to Studio lit Films such as Saw (2004). Well, personally, I think the documentary style allows for more scares because of the very linear view it offers. There are no camera changes or pan shots, just that single camera.

5. Do you feel that the lighting in the original 1974 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was more effective at scaring the audience as opposed to the 2003 remake? I don't think it was the lighting, but more just the movie's feel.

6. Do you feel that Horror films in the 70s and 80s were more explicit than today? Not quite, it depends on the horror movie. Some horror movies have nearly no blood, but when it gets bloody it takes it almost as far as it will go.

7. Do you feel that Horror films still have their place in modern-day society? Completely, people will ALWAYS be scared of something.

8. Do you agree that 90s saw the death of the Horror film and why?
Not at all, I'm wondering why you would feel that way. Like I said horror films are getting more popular all the time.

9. Psycho (1960) is one of the most famous Horror films ever made; does it still have an impact on the modern day Horror film? I would say so, well if your head hasn't been saturated with all the parodies and clips they show all the time.

10. Do you think that the Horror film will ever be revived? I don't think it really needs to be revived.
