Ok, I am kinda confused about something with Van Helsing. The original Van Helsing, from Bram Stokers book is named Abraham. In the movie they call him Gabriel.....wtf is up with this, anyone have any insite for me so I know what is going on?

From IMDB
So that the production company can hold certain rights to the character, the original character from the Dracula series Abraham Van Helsing was changed to the new 'kid brother' Gabriel Van Helsing instead.

Wow someone fucked that up.
What's picking another Biblical name? I mean Abraham was ok, considering that's the original, but Gabriel? They could have come up with something better than that...

Well, I do agree all this copyright stuff sucks, but... Come on, guys, can you imagine old original Van Helsing as a kind of action hero portrayed by Hugh Jackman?
BTW... Well, what if they selected another biblical name hazardly? Even if not, what's that bad about biblical names, specially for "this" kinda hero and this kinda theme? Anti-Christian paranoia is nearly as bad as Christian paranoia itself, my friends...

I dont think its the fact that its another Biblical name that is offending people here, at least not in MY case, but the fact that they strayed from the story and Bram Stokers book, simply to own more of the copywrites and generate more revenue. As always, its all about the almighty dollar:rolleyes:

Ok good, I thought that I was the only one who noticed the difference when Dracula says "Hello Gabriel" in the trailer. I mean, the name Gabriel I have no problem with, my sons name is Gabriel. I was just confused/irked that they strayed from Abraham. I first noticed it due to my love for the movie "Monster Squad". I love Monster Squad. "Hey fat kid, good job. MY NAME....IS HORACE *cocks shotgun*"

It's not meant to be the kid brother, it's meant to be the same character, they just felt they needed to "update" the name.
That's what Empire says anyway...u guys get empire?

I was just quoting IMDB. I don't know if he's the brother, uncle, nephew, son or whatever. He looks like Wolverine to me.;)

Hey, at least it isnt about his cousins, eddie and alex vanhelsing. They are a great guitarist and drummer, but a bit arrogant. Plus, i dont want to see a movie about them.:D
