Breck Eisner likes remakes, apparently.

He's currently finishing up his redux of George Romero's The Crazies, and he also had a new take on Creature from the Black Lagoon in the works until recently (it was just announced the other day that Carl Erik Rinsch has taken over as the director on that film).

But the loss of Creature is not a problem, for Eisner has already got another remake in the works: The Brood.

The L.A. Times reports that Eisner will be bringing David Cronenberg's 1979 cult-classic freak-fest to a new generation.

The Brood is about a new, quite horrific form of psychotherapy that brings out physical manifestations of a patient's inner pain. This includes a woman who births mutant children -- the brood! -- who she's telepathically linked to and who, inevitably, do horrible things for dear old momma.

Cory Goodman (Priest) wrote the remake for Spyglass Entertainment. How well Eisner can translate this singularly Cronenberg piece for the new millennium remains to be seen, though his take on The Crazies should give us some idea as to whether or not the helmer has the guts for it when that film releases in early 2010.
