After hearing about it here numerous times, always held in pretty high regard I thought I'd keep my eyes out for the dvd.
So I found it, as I recall pretty cheaply too...though I haven't watched it as yet.
I'm not sure why. I've had it for over a year now, just sitting there.
It may be that the cover art/stills aren't particularly inspiring, but yeah every time I pick it up I end up putting it back down among the unwatched 50 or so dvds I have set aside.
Of course this is a stupid and judgmental thing, but yknow...you can only operate via standard procedure that suits you - though it's been bothering me because I have a feeling that it's probably a pretty good film.
Can anyone convince me of it's cool? What'll make me want to see it?
High points (non plot) ?

It's a kaleidoscopic, grand spectacle; horror as goofy, gorgeous, gory high art.
Sure the plot is thin, unevenly paced, and has a fairly anti-climactic ending, but those (for me, at least) are lost in the film as a whole. It more than makes up for its shortcomings with style, composition, color; really everything else. It has some of the strangest, wildest, most entertaining (often murder) scenes in the genre. And of course one of the strangest, wildest, most entertaining scores in the genre as well.
In short, I strongly urge you to give it a shot. It has its reputation for a reason.
And I really hope you enjoy it, too.

Completely agree. I lent out my copy of Suspiria to a friend who is a big horror fan who had been meaning to see it, and I lent Profondo Rosso along with it. I flat out told her that yes, Suspiria is great, and has amazing visuals, but as a whole Deep Red is better.
I wouldn't suggest that anyone watch just Suspiria because to really appreciate it you need to compare it against Argento's other works. They're really all quite varied.

I haven't actually seen ANY of Argentos stuff...unless, he didn't do Demons did he? Other than, nope, none.
So there seems to be some mixed takes on it but the overall vibe I'm getting is that it's pretty styalistic and weird. It's also a late 70's/early 80's movie by the look of it so that'd be pretty well in place there...also I've done some research and heard the soundtrack is rather eerie and atmospheric too. So a visually weird artistic type of horror film...?
I'll try to fit it in within the week then.

It's a very enjoyable film, just don't expect to be blown away... It becomes less valid when compared to Dario's various other works.
Let us know what you thought!

uh.... Cheeb?
Is Suspiria still sitting unseen? lol If you saw it, what'd ya think? I think it's strength was visual. It was beautiful to watch. Not really a plot, and obviously it was sound dubbed. At least three maybe four different languages were being spoken by the different actors/actresses.

Inferno is good but it didnt get the international success of Suspiria. With the different actors from different countries in the movie like american actress jessica harper as suzy, and the many horror directors who were influenced by it
Though you are right they are pretty equally good
