This is a concept sketch I did during my flash class for a comic my friend and I want to make. Imagine the Blade comics, 'cept Blade is now Jesus, and the vampires are now zombies. Hilarity ensues. Ta-dah!

A scene for my graphic design class midterm. We're learning about colour scheme and composition! Funny side story: My professor used to work making Flash games for YTV.com (Canadian kids programming station.) so when he gives us projects they all have really cheesy kids-game-esque names on the pdfs. This one was titled "A scene for Halloween!".

Done in Flash CS4. We had to include

a tree
a graveyard
a haunted house
the moon
a jack-o-lantern

I added the zombie in myself so I wasn't so bored with the assignment. Hands aren't my strong point, but I think it turned out well.

Oh yes, but they are mostly girly. I can do scarves, hats and custom anythings though.

I have been asked to make 3 really big costume commissions for Anime North in May since yesterday when I posted that group. One is actually for a larper but still, I'm excited.

Art class *chuckles-wipes away tear* sorry, it seems like all you need is to keep making art. My favorite art teacher ever was a substitue back in my sophmore year of highschool-that was a long time ago- she caught me drawing pictures during a film presentation, our regular teacher made us watch one every week, I remember it was an inapropriate drawing as well. I was stumbling over an apology when she hands me this big stack of blank paper. Never saw her again, I can't even remember her name but I've been drawing ever since.

Aww that's adorable. My favourite art teacher was a sub as well. Mr. Simpson. He dressed like something between a hippy and a cowboy and taught me basically everything I know. We sculpted that year, and did a lot of sketching. We all got a brand new, hard cover sketch book and I filled it so fast. I also got to design the set for out school's production that year. The guy used to be a set designer for Shaw festival, so he taught me how to trick the eye and we basically painted this huuuge backdrop, and did a lot of fake wood grain. I went on to do set painting for out local theater that summer. It was kind of a big deal.

Also, I drew this today on flockdraw.com today. I set up my own room, and basically anyone on that page can draw together at the same time.

I like the partially open mouth, maybe because I am familiar with how difficult that is to pull off (in a drawing)

Ugh, I had to submit a drawing to a guy for an airbrush job with dollar bin pencils. It was awful, fortunately the guy didn't really understand why an expensive white pencil would have produced a better drawing. (Now that we're fb friends you can see pics of the bike I painted)

Thanks, I used the Staedtler drawing pencils but I'm so heavy handed. Even an HB is too dark for outlines, and anything harder makes too much of a dent in the paper.

Oooh, your Harley looks very nice. You look so happy painting it.

milktoaste
04-22-2010, 06:10 PM
I wish it was my Harley, and yes it was a blast painting it. It belonged to a guy who passed away a few years ago and now it belongs to his son. It's owner got really emotional when I finally started painting-he really loved how it turned out. I personally would never have gone with barb-wire but what can you do?

I'm usually a pen and ink kind of guy, and only occasionally highlight with a white pencil. This stupid economy has chased away three of my favorite art stores and now I am on the search for a replacement. I'll keep an eye out for Staedtler, and thanks for the compliment :)

They look great, enjoying the new pencils? Some of the best advice I've personally ever received was not to be afraid to use black. Around the eye, eyelashes and the bottom dark edge of the sphere could use fine amounts of black to help define the shape and depth.

Staedtler goes $40 for the first set large enough to include white, I'm going to have to save up for a bit.

Thanks for the advice. It's basically the same advice my teacher gave. Because I'm heavy handed I'm afraid to go too dark. Always worried I won't be able to undo it.

Also: I spent $100+ on these pencils. The 120 set. So worth it because I will use them my entire lifetime. The skin tones, oh man. So many. I used a dozen colours to build up the right tone for that eye picture.

Edit: Also my scanner totally washes these out. The pencil more so than the coloured pencil, but I'm afraid to photoshop them because the teacher can open them in Adobe Bridge and see what's been done.
