Things had been quiet on the MechWarrior movie front for a couple of years. Last news heard, Dean Devlin - who produced Godzilla - was developing the project, but that was some time ago and seemingly nothing came of his involvement.

Now Joystiq are reporting that former Disney chief Michael Eisner's production house The Tornate Company have bought the rights to the game-to-film adaptation and have got to work on the flick.

Joystiq's source claims that Michael Gordon - who wrote G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra - has been hired to pen the script.

The news follows on from the announcement earlier this summer that the MechWarrior videogame franchise is set for a reboot, courtesy of Smith and Tinker and Piranha studios.

A potential spanner in the works however is the looming trade mark dispute between Piranha and Harmony Gold - the co-owners of the Robotech games, claiming the 'bots were somewhat similar to those in Robotech.

Such a dispute could also affect any movie adaptation.
