The PS3 motion controller.
It's true, it's happening, and you can watch this video below as they show it on Resident Evil 5 for the Playstation 3.

Coming in spring of next year, the Motion Controller will be used along with the Playstation Eye. The new controller, equipped with high-precision, highly accurate motion sensors, can deliver whole new entertainment experience on PS3 when combined together with the PlayStation Eye camera. Capable of recognizing and tracking a user’s face and voice as well as body motion, PlayStation Eye can also output the player’s image onto the TV screen. SCE will vigorously promote the expansion of this new experience only possible on the PS3 platform.
The newly announced Motion Controller is equipped with two motion sensors, three axes gyroscope and three axes accelerometer that can detect the controller’s angle and movement held in the user’s hand. Together with the PlayStation Eye camera for PS3 which can accurately track the absolute position of the controller, the controller can detect the natural and intuitive movement of the hand and reflect the precise movement on to the game. The sphere placed on the top of the controller is not only used to track the absolute position but can also give visual feedback to users by changing the colors or the illuminating patterns of the sphere. Furthermore, the new controller is also equipped with a rumble feature, familiar to the PlayStation DUALSHOCK series controller, delivering immersive gaming experience to users.
The following games will be compatible with the motion controller via updates through your Playstation 3.
Ape Escape (Working Title)
Echochrome 2 (Working Title)
Eccentric Slider (Working Title)
Sing and Draw (Working Title)
Champions of Time (Working Title)

This looks awesome. Hope it ends up being as good as it looks.
Finding more natural ways of controlling games is one of the keys to expanding the gaming market beyond the traditional "gamers". Look at the success of the Wii with casual gamers.
Truly intuitive controls have been elusive for manufacturers, although they have been trying for decades. I remember in the early 80's buying a joystick for the Commodore 64 that worked on mercury activated switches. It didn't have a base, the mercury closed circuits when the stick was tilted. Trouble was, it was so sensitive to tilt that it made controlling a game much harder than a traditional joystick. So it failed dismally.
But the success of the Wii looks like it has inspired other manufacturers to make solid efforts towards more natural controls. Can't wait to see where it all ends up.

At the on-going Game Developers Conference 2010 in San Francisco, Sony Computer Entertainment revealed the much awaited Motion controller for PlayStation 3 console with the brand name - PlayStation Move.

The all-new PlayStation Move will also operate with another 'subcontroller' - both to be used with PlayStation Eye camera. Sony will sell the Move controller separately and also as a bundle including PlayStation eye camera, Move controller and a game would be made available.
New PlayStation Move controller is like wand that will remind you of Wii's Nunchuk but with a colored sphere on the top. It's this sphere that helps PlayStation Eye detect the whereabouts of Move controller. Sony will offer the Move controller with spheres in sky blue, yellow, light green, pink and while color options. Alongside that, Subcontroller with direction buttons, analog stick and home button will also be paired with the Move. This Subcontroller comes handy in shooting and action games like SOCOM 4.

Sony has dropped the word Arc for the Motion Controller that had been buzzing the web lately. Move controller is equipped with two high-precision motion sensors, three axis gyroscope (X plane, Y plane and Z plane), and three axis accelerometer. These components allow the eye camera to detect the presence as well as the precise movement and change in position of the Move controller. It's unlikely that the Subcontroller will come with any motion sensors. Both Move controller and Subcontroller use Bluetooth
interface to connect. The PS3 console can support only seven Bluetooth connections and hence four pairs of Move+Subcontroller cannot be used.
Sony clarified:
Four PlayStation Move controllers can connect to a PS3 at one time (or two PlayStation Move Controllers and 2 PlayStation Move sub-controllers).
Few Move controller friendly game demos were shown at the event. These demos include Sports Champions, Move Party, Dukes, TV Superstars, Slider and The Shoot. Of course, upcoming SOCOM 4 game was demonstrated using Move controller and Subcontroller. Sony had already announced a lineup of Move controller friendly games last year at the GDC 2009. About 36 game developing and publishing companies will support Move controller. As a result, 20 game titles, Move-centric or Move-supporting, would be announced in fiscal year of 2010-2011.
Microsoft's Project Natal, a gesture control system for Xbox 360, is due for arrival in Holiday season but by that time, Sony's Move controller would already be all over the place. It would be an interesting tug of war by the end of this year between - Nintendo Wii's MotionPlus + Nunchuks, Sony PlayStation Move and Microsoft's Project Natal.
Sony has confirmed that the recently unveiled PlayStation Move game controller can support up to four players with full configuration on PlayStation 3 console, as reported by Gizmodo. That means four Move controllers can be connected or two pairs of Move controller with Subcontroller can be connected to PS3. This means four players can enjoy the Move controller based or supporting titles at the same time.
A recent patent filing with FCC showed that Sony has been testing power emissions, radiation emissions and peak output levels for Bluetooth (2.0 with EDR) and WLAN (802.11 b/g) modules.
It's quite a possibility that new PS3 consoles with further enhanced Bluetooth feature are in making so that more Move controllers can be supported simultaneously. Or, these could be limited edition bundles. No concrete information is available on this as of now.

I don't know man, Sony's always been pretty innovative. Besides that loss to Immersion because they ripped off the dual shock stuff they've been ahead of the game for sure.

Dunno...just looks like it's cloned after the wii controller thing to me, I doubt using it would be all that different...which is a pity, because I think the wii control system leaves a lot to be desired.
That and, the PS3 one kinda looks like dildos...

Ask any gamer his one fundamental gripe with the consoles, and it would invariably be the drudgery of playing First Person Shooters with a gamepad.
However, things are about to change with the good people at the PlayStation blog announcing the launch of the rather unimaginatively named PlayStation Move Shooting Attachment.
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g12/ravenavi/113218_20move600.jpg
The accessory turns an ordinary Move controller into a pistol with a working trigger, providing an authentic shooter experience, which may potentially surpass the precision and intuitiveness of a keyboard mouse combo. With big-bore AAA titles like Killzone 3 rumoured to incorporate the PS3 Move controller into the game, this looks quite promising.
The attachment retails in North America for $20, also on offer is an on-rails shooter The Shoot (what's with the Move and insipid nomenclature?) for $40.
What's with the colored ball on the end of all of the controllers? A gun controller is cool I guess for FPS games, but not one with a Bozo nose on the end of it.
Don't know how Sony can put these controllers out as similar as they are to the Wii's.
I heard no controller at all for the new Xbox deal. Anyone know?

Sorry, but I still love controllers, they give me more... I don't know... control. Sensors and cameras just can't pick up movement and react as quickly or accurately as a controller reacts to my fingers.

To be honest the thing doesn't look very user friendly...
Looks kind of like a compressed version of the wii controllers when you put them in that gun shaped bay for shooters, and hell that didn't work for shit.
See, where these companies are getting it wrong is fixing what aint broken.
Hell, look at the N64 and Dreamcast controllers...both (although I liked the DC one a lot more) GREAT for FPS play, both doubled as standard controllers too...they had it right, xbox and playstation standard controls largely followed in their footsteps.
I don't need all this shit...until the day I can control the character with my mind and interact with everything with my hands...I will just not be into these.

Sony made a high end graphic WII? I am not impressed Sony. Kinetic least lets YOU be the controller in every way. Now does that make it good? I won't know until I try it.
