Picked up the 30W version of this amp the other day.

I have only had it for a couple of days, but first impressions are very positive. I was tossing up between the 30W and the 75W version (mainly because the bigger model has a USB port for recording on your computer). Ended up forgoing the USB interface because I couldn't justify over $200 extra for this. The bigger output wasn't really needed as I am mostly playing to an audience of 1 (myself :)).

The amp models are very impressive. There is an excellent range of models with tones for most styles of music. I mainly play older punk, classic metal (eg Black Sabbath), hard rock, and some 60's stuff. This amp has me well covered.

There are some great effects (stompbox and rack). The Wah effect isn't as good as a dedicated pedal but it is sufficient for occasional use.

A looper and extra presets are available with the purchase of a proprietary Sanpera pedal, but this is damn overpriced. I couldn't justify it's purchase. On the subject of optional extras, to update the amp's firmware, you need a midi cable. In Australia, USB to midi cables seem to be around the $80 - $90 mark, which is a considerable price, considering this amp cost me $430. This really should have been included in the unit considering it is the only way to update the firmware (the models with USB interfaces don't let you update the firmware directly via USB, so you still need a midi cable).

The 30W model way loud enough for me. Not to be outdone by the guys from Spinal Tap, this amp's master volume goes all the way to 13! Take that, Spinal Tap. But seriously, I think it would be loud enough to jam with a drummer and bass. The 75W would seem only necessary for gigging. The 30W would suffice for small gigs only.

I had been eyeing the Line 6 Spiders for some time, and I am glad that I didn't buy one before this Peavey came out. The Peavey sounds a lot more versatile and natural than the Line 6 that I tried. The benefit that the Line 6 had was that it had a whole heap of artist presents (eg a "Back in Black preset to give you the early 80's AC/DC sound). With the Peavey you have to work it out for yourself.

All in all, very happy with this purchase. I would recommend this amp series to anyone who doesn't want or need a tube amp (eg playing at home, where you can't crank a tube amp to the levels needed to get good sound out of it).
