Christmas comes earlier and earlier each year, so why not Halloween?
I tend to plan out my costume a few months in advance.

What about you guys? Anyone have any awesome costumes picked out or in the works?

and there's the chick-ful-a cowsuit I've been eyeing.

Almost got a job as a butcher, I planned on wearing a pig mask and bloody apron to work one Halloween, but it never went through.

I'm thinking of making a Sgt. Kabukiman costume this year haha.

Seriously, Nova - I demand pics!!!

...

I don't know if we're going to have a Halloween party to wear them to this year... Then again we could always HOST one, though our apartment is very wee...

I've had this plan for a couple of years now where my boyfriend and I would go together as "hentai;" I would be a Japanese school girl and he would be a masked tentacle monster... but he's started falling out of love with the tentacle monster idea...

I'm going through a complete and utter vampire fixation lately. I might invest in a decent pair of fangs and white makeup and just sex myself up (I have a nice latex bodice that would work nicely).

I had a costume planned....but so far I have nothing for my costume...so I was... or still am depending on if I get everything for it.. Columbia from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and a small group of friends were or still are going as other characters from the film too. :) I think we also have it planned to go see it in theaters. If the costume doesn't pull through not sure what I'll dress as.

I was a zombie last year which involved some latex stuff, and colouring, destroying a shirt, and a fair bit of fake blood.

This year, if we do it...I'm thinking about either facial stitching, or some kind of plating, with colouring/flesh surfacing around it.

I'm putting together a Hallowe'en party this year with some friends at their house, and I'll be going as:

And oh yes, definitely a good log. The search has already begun.

The costume isn't complicated, but I want to make sure to get every detail right.

Actually I think I'm going to get an Alice in Wonderland costume and be an evil Alice... I like that idea...

And J - The Log Lady costume is AWESOME.

I'm following in The Return's footsteps and going as Comic Book Joker.

Which reminds me, because I did need to ask, have you got any tips for applying the make up? Like is there a best order to do it i.e. Red then white then black?

For Joker, I would do red first so you have a bit of an outline to work with, then do white, then black, touch up as needed.
I may not be an expert, but I do carry a pack of theater makeup in my car...just in case. :p

Haha, thanks :)

Do you have any tips for applying the white. Usually I just spread it with my hands but I think sponging it on my work better. What do you think?

I've only seen this in films so forgive me if it's wrong, but don't American kids get to go to school in the costumes.

God your kid must be popular.

Oh, and a side note while I'm close enough to the subject: are many of the kids at your kid's school related to people in the industry? That would be soooooo cool.

I like to cake white on my cheeks and forehead then spread it around with my fingers and a sponge, you can see where you need to blend better that way IMO.

My kids go to catholic school so, no, they don't.
But at most public schools here- it's allowed.

Do your kids go trick or treating after school?

And also, I've seen this in films as well, so it might be wrong, but do American kids tend to leave early. Like, before it gets dark?

Roderick Usher

It depends on the neighborhood, some paranoid communities think kids will be somehow "at risk" if they go out at night, so they trick-or-treat during the late afternoon.

I'd never trick or treat with my kids until after dark.

our kids have a costume parade at school, but they are encouraged to change into their costume for the parade (at the end of the day) and not wear their costume all day long as it causes quite a classroom distraction.

And yeah, there are quite a few industry families in my kid's school. The prop guys and set-builder dads always help me construct the school's haunted house... which I need to start planning:o

Yeh, that's the way it should be done. I can understand being worried about the kids safety, but the parents should be taking them out themselves if they're quite young. What happened to quality time with the kids?

Trick or treating is town curfewed from 6pm to 8pm. We live in an awesome neighborhood to troop around though and almost all the houses go all out with the decorating and candy.

That's the hours for my neighborhood too, though on the Friday before Halloween all of the shops will have special Halloween open houses in the afternoon and kids can parade and get free goodies from the shops. It's pretty friggin adorable.

I always do the red first. Find it easier to work around it than to do it afterward.

Otherwise...yeah, pretty much just spread it by hand. If your makeup is the right viscosity you can always try a makeup sponge too, but I find thats more trouble than its worth. I pretty much just play around until it looks right really.

Look forward to seeing it dude

I'm considering it...I'd rather come up with something new though. As much as I adore ol' Mr. J, after Dark Knight came out and everyone got obsessed it just isn't the same. Still, the costume remains in my closet - worst case scenario I sure don't mind whipping it out again

I have finally decided on Little Sister from BioShock. Should be easy enough, I just need to make it recognizable so I dont just look like some little ghost girl with a weird needly gun. Thinking I'll sew up a big daddy plushy to make it work.

Decided on a variation of the joker. Same basic gear needed to make the costume, but a bit more freedom. The typical evil clown. I did an early mock-up. It was with limited colours. The eye bubbles are probably going to be green, as well as the hair, and the face will obviously be white. Oh, and I'll get a proper wardrobe.

few years ago i wore a goblin mask with a boston red sox hat, this time im thinking Leatherface Because i bought the mask on ebay. i have to modify it with velcro first because its big enough to fit over a football helmet.

also, thinking of throwing a cloak on with a hood and around my eyes painted black with a crouched walk so i can disguise myself one hundred percent for trick or treating. last time someone asked me,"arent you a little to old for trick or treating?". this way i can avoid any problems and unite with my bags of sweet treasure.

Was gonna go as a little sister, but my friends have now got Derek and I dressing as Col. Mustard and Miss Scarlett from the board game Clue. We're both pretty excited to have a big group costume idea. I'm in charge of gathering the weapons from the game, and we are getting together in costume the day before to take some pictures and make character cards just to drive home the point.

Love that you're putting your own spin on it Ferret - looks awesome so far, can't wait to see the finished product!

I'm in need to some suggestions myself...wanted to go as Bullwinkle the Moose, but anything I can come up with just looks tacky (and I can't figure out the nose...).

If anyone can either help me out with how to me make a moose, I'm all ears. Or if anyone wants to toss some alternate ideas my way, I'm all ears.

Ok another change of plans to my Halloween costume, I was given some money to actually get stuff for a costume.

I am going to a showing of RHPS the 30th,but I need my costume before hand, I want to go as Columbia, but I don't think I'll be able to find everything I need,so I'll have to settle on Magenta this year....figured I'll have more luck finding everything. I only have $20 I'm going to check Wal-Mart I really hope I can find everything, and pull it off. I've never been to an actual showing of RHPS, play and film. :( I've seen the movie at home countless time thought :)

Once I get everything I'll have some pics up :)
