Thoughts?

the day that crap like twilight become "genre defining" will be the day i give up on it

It already has.
Emo-vampire is in, blood-sucking vampire is out. Poor Bram Stoker must be turning in his grave...

tell that to 30 days of night.

at the moment it's a successful money spinner, time will tell if it damages the genre.

I seriously don't see many takers for old gothic-creepy vampire tales once New Moon comes out and hits the jackpot.
The hip-generation has the final say where the BO is concerned. Studios have found their audience to cater to. Scripters know who they are writing for.
Everyone's happy, except the hardcore horror fan who has always loved his Nosferatu and Dracula.
Nowadays, its cool to be a Twilight-fan. The "Twilight"-vampy style is in.

the twilight series is what it is ... teen girl romance stories with some light vampire stuff.

i dont believe this defines the genre at all ... there's already a huge backlash from horror fans who dont get that they arent the target demographic for this and only saw it because of the popularity.

if nothing else maybe it'll draw more non horror fans in a bit ..get them to check into the genre a little further.

anyway whenever things get soft - someone always comes along to make things 'hard' again ...

like the sex postols did to revolt against disco ..etc..

there have always been a huge market for vampire love stories (let alone soap operas - no one remembers dark shadows ?) in literature and in film .. this is just the first time it became Beatles famous - so now everyone has an opinion...

hardly a concern.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of making almost this exact post. Agree 100% with urgeok2..

Horror films are more bankable than they hav been in a long time - stuff like 'Twilight' is just trying to get the teeny girl market.

Nah. He's out drinking the blood of the innocent. I suppose that makes one vampire still doing that. But still, it'll go out of fashion. It's just a fad after all. Soon little girls will decide they like boys with tans again and Twilight will fade into the night, the new moon will fade, and we can all get back to watching Vampires be barbaric creatures once more.

I was always more of a werewolf fan than a vampire fan anyway. Let the blood-not-suckers shrivel up in emo lameness; werewolves are still willing to rip out throats and disembowel.

What if they make a werewolf love story next?
All mushy-wushy stuff and no ripping apart (except a few soft slaps on the cheek), plenty of adoring howling and romance...
...and it becomes a hit at the BO!

Oh boy...hope nobody in Hollywood is reading this reply.

I liked Twilight the first go around,200 viewings later i'm not as much of a fan.My 7 yr old is beyond obsessed, she has became more interested in vampires since this has came out.Maybe it will spark intrest and turn people on to horror.I'm only sick of every 13 yar old girl dressing in black and calling herself a goth vamp..pathetic!

I could be wrong but I think the next Twilight movie has emo werewolves in it.

I was at the Comic Con and actually saw the line to get into Twilight and it was completely insane. The panel didn't start until 3 pm and at 8 am they were wrapped around the block.

As far as the whole emo-vampire thing goes, I can see it becoming a sub genre but there will always be a place for straight up rip your throat out vampires too.

They're only teenagers and that what they do. Who care if they are 'real goth' or not (what ever that means. They're hardly hurting anyone and they're giving people jobs in Hot Topic :-)

They actually do that? Shit, I thought South Park just made that up. And I thought British girls were obsessed. Guys, you got it bad.

And as far as I know, yes, there will be werewolves in New Moon. :(

Werewolves will weather the storm much better, however. Let's face it, vampires have been travelling the road to sissydom for a long time now--ruffled shirts, techno music, eyeliner. Werewolves, on the other hand, have remained feral, independent, and decidedly unkempt. So while Twilight might put a pretty pink bow in the hair of werewolves, they will never succumb to foppery.

Vampires have always seemed to me a bit trendy. worshiped by goths and such, that articles pretty spot on. I tend to avoid newer vampire flicks all together.

I can't stand angsty teenage vampires. Or even the country club vampires from Blade. A vampire should be a feral monster that'll tear you limb from limb for fun, not some rich prick wearing chinos.

qft. I've got more respect for zombies than vamps for God's sake; zombies may be rotting and monosyllabic, but they're not drama queens.
