Which horror franchise do you think receives the most unwarranted attention?

BTW...How on earth did you avoid seeing Child's Play?...You really SHOULD see Phantasm:)

Phantasm.
IMO you can't pick ANOES, Halloween or F13 because they're not rated that highly by critics to begin with. Therefore they're not "overrated".

Evil Dead Series.
I hate those movies.

The only horror movie that are overrated in my eyes are the scream and I know what you did last summer franchise.

I voted for Phantasm. Those movies sucked! I also agree with whoever said the Leprechaun movies were crap and getting worse.

Puppet Masters series pretty much sucked. The first one wasn't too bad [ kinda original ] but downhill after that.
But outa your list I'll say Leprechan
I was torn between Leprachan and Friday the 13th. but since Leprachan doesn't get nearly half of the outpouring of praise from horror fans as Friday, I voted for Friday.

Child's Play--thought it was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard of, and then I watched them . . .and it proved it was the stupidest thing I'd ever seen. That was not scary, and that was the absolute UGLIEST doll I have ever seen.
Bride of Chucky was freggin' great though, just because I still crack up whenever I think of playthings getting it on. Like Barbie and G.I. Joe in the back of a plastic pink Corvette, that's just a memory to hold on to.

LMAO Yeah, Bride of Chucky was cute. When I was a kid, my Barbie doll had a regular date with my Hulk doll. ;)

I am bumping this thread because I wanted to see if I could get a few more votes.
I cant believe I forgot to put PuppetMaster in. Damn. I really should have because I watch them all, but somehow it slipped my mind. Sorry, maybe next poll.

One more thing I noticed, as of the time of this post, Romero's Trilogy and TCM haven't received a single vote. I guess maybe we are in agreement that these films are worthy of their praise.

responding to your statment i agree they deserve any overration(this probably is'nt a real word) they get.
and i voted for leprechaun because it's just horrible and any remotly good rating it gets would be overrating it.

I think The Exorcist series is the most overrated series. Especially the first one.

Especially the first one. are you on crack the exorcist was a great movie. and plus when it came out it was a break through movie. come on a little girl masterbating with a crusifix. whats not to love. o ya by the way i think the friday the 13th series was the most overrated, well i did like the first 3 but i could only take 2 jason movies of him just killing people. (for no real reason) and heres what made me mad about the whole thing in the first movie jason was still a kid (when he came out of the water at the end) and suddly hes a full grown adult. what the fuck. how did that happen, was it just something people over looked or did i miss something?

Some of those can't be overrated because NOBODY says they're good. Stuff like NOES and F13 aren't praised by critics, but are fellated by horror fans (Critics loved Halloween, and with good reason). I picked NOES

I cannot fucking believe that you said that. How old are you? Let me guess, 15?
It's a pity that all teens cant be as knowledgable about movies as Sam.
If you are not a teen, then you are even more pathetic for saying that. You should know better.

How is the EXORCIST series overrated? We're not voting on individual movies, ya know. Exorcist 2 is on a lot of Worst Movie Ever lists (rightfully so), and Exorcist 3 is widely regarded as mediocre.

What gets me is that he felt that the original was the worst!!!

maybe he saw that "Director's Cut" POS they released a while ago. That wasn't that good. The stuff they added fucked up the pacing, which was one of the main things, IMO, that made the movie good.

I agree about the director's cut. It was an overkill.
Yet, it was still better than what he gives it credit for.

agreed
On a supplementary note: I enjoy watching Exorcist 2 for the cheese factor. It's funny as hell. Lousy horror movie, but great unintentional comedy.

Ok, but think about this: You've heard a movie is not only one of the best horror movies ever, but one of the best movies ever (depending on whether or not you listen to critics). So you finally get a chance to see it, in theaters no less, and you're ready to see a great movie. And what you get is...mediocre to good. The amount of a letdown that is would make a great movie seem bad.

Well i dont have sky or cable or any of that stuff and normal
English tv rarely ever shows horror movies and the only video store near me only has new releases and then they send back the old ones.

that's exactly why i put house of 1000 corpses on my worst horror movie list on a old thread because of my high expectations of seeing a dawn of the dead or halloween calibor movie until the second time i saw it i thought it was horrible.

Well, if you have a multi-region DVD player, just buy it off of Ebay or Amazon. Phantasm is good IMO because it is ORIGINAL in it's storyline and concept. I really loved watching it when I was a kid. I also loved to daydream about how awesome it would be if Reggie was an ice cream man in my neighborhood.;)

Evil dead series i can see why people like the first one cause its a very good movie but the sequals are pure crap there so stupid and goofy.

i guess phantasm was a big deal when it came out, every time i bring it up my brother tells me of when it was released and how everyone he knew raved about it but when he saw it he wasn't all that impressed. as for myself, i own the 1st one and i've seen some of the others and it's okay-i think that's one that SHOULD be re-made.
