Darren Lynn Bousman will write and direct "Abattoir" for Radical Pictures.

Radical principal Barry Levine will produce with Bousman, and Jess Berger will be executive producer.

Radical's publishing arm is in the process of turning the property into a graphic novel, based on the concept by Bousman and writing-producing partner Michael Peterson.

Artwork for the graphic novel will be unveiled at Comic-Con.

In "Abattoir" (the French word for slaughterhouse), a real estate agent assigned to clean up the remnants of a massacre that took place in a mansion he hopes to sell is visited by a twisted old man who draws the agent into a web of shadows, murders and massacres.

Radical is financing the film through its discretionary fund.

"After taking over the 'Saw' franchise for so long and then directing 'Mother's Day' based on the original film, this is exciting because it is an original concept and we feel it could be a huge franchise," Bousman told Daily Variety.

Bousman last directed "Repo! The Genetic Opera."

"Abattoir" becomes the latest on the slate of films set up from Radical Publishing titles.
Others include "Caliber," a co-production with Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil;
"Hercules: The Thracian Wars," a Spyglass/Universal pic that has Peter Berg producing and possibly directing;
and New Regency's "Freedom Formula," to be produced by Bryan Singer, who may direct.

While the plot sounds really fun and interesting, looking at the body of work of the people involved really makes me think this will be total crap. Especially with the "this could be a really huge franchise" mindset.
