ok - i'm wanting to read a new book and i'm hoping to find a horror novel that is SMART - well-written, intelligent, deep and philosophically interesting. but i also want something new.

any suggestions for something new that is not just boilerplate horror/thriller/suspense?

I was planning on "plugging" you Doc - Murderland was the 1st thing that came to mind when I saw this thread.

Zero - read Murderland, Part 1: h8 by Garret Cook (as if we don't know who that is ;) ). It fits your criteria and it's brilliant.

THE SEARCH FOR JOSEPH TULLY by William H. Hallahan was really good and might fit the bill.
