It looks like you should prepare to Scream again.

Rope of Sillicon received what it claims is a screen capture of a William Morris Agency e-mail memo announcing that screenwriter Kevin Williamson has closed a deal with The Weinstein Company to "recreate the Scream franchise as a new trilogy in Scream 4, 5 and 6."

The purported memo also says that Williamson has committed to write and direct a remake of the 1987 thriller The Bedroom Window.

And what of the involvement of Scream series director Wes Craven? Well, Bloody Disgusting recently chatted with the filmmaker who advised them that "it would take it being really as good a script as the first one was" in order for him to helm Scream 4, which he confirmed was indeed moving ahead at the studio. Craven added that his pay day for Scream 4 would need to reflect "what I've done for that company and what I've gone through on Cursed."

The Arquettes are in negotiations to return to the Scream trilogy, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Their "Hollywood Insider" column reports that writer Kevin Williamson -- who is re-launching the knowing horror franchise as a new trilogy -- has approached Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette to return to the series.

Apparently these deals have not yet been signed as there are scheduling problems to be ironed out first, and it's not clear how large the roles will be.

The potential casting of the Arquettes doesn't clear up the confusion over whether the new Scream movies will reboot the franchise or work as straight sequels.

E! Online broke the news last afternoon that both David Arquette and Courteney Cox have officially signed on to return as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers respectively in the Weinstein Company's Scream 4.

"We are going to be doing Scream 4," Arquette tells the site. "Kevin Williamson is writing the script at this moment, and hopefully Wes Craven is going to direct."

As been told by Craven himself, if the money/script was right, he'd return to helm the mega franchise that took the 90's by storm.

Its been presumed that the film will be a younger version of the Scream films, although Neve Campbell threw a kink in the wheel by refusing to return as Sidney Prescott.

Stay tuned for further updates as they unwrap.

Courteney Cox, who is set to star in a fourth Scream movie, elaborated on a few details that were revealed by writer Kevin Williamson a couple of days ago about the sequel, which picks up the story 10 years after the events in 2000's Scream 3.

Cox will reprise the role of TV reporter Gale Weathers.

"She has a kid now," Cox said in a group interview Saturday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, Calif., where she was promoting her ABC show Cougar Town. "She's married to Dewey."

Scream 3 ended with Deputy Dewey (David Arquette, Cox's real-life husband) proposing to local newswoman-turned-true-crime guru Gale. The characters bonded during their investigation of the first Scream murders, through the campus crimes of Scream 2 and the film-within-the-film of Scream 3.

Williamson previously described Scream 4 as the beginning of a new trilogy. Cox has no trepidations about beginning another three films. "No, because [I take things] one day at a time," she said. "But I heard the idea for Scream 4, and it's fantastic."

The Scream series tweaked the conventions of horror movies as film-obsessed killers terrorized teens a la their favorite slashers. Nearly a decade later, Cox said that she is ready for round four. "I'm excited," she said. "It'll be really fun."

With Cox and Williamson both beginning new shows this season, Williamson expects to turn in a final draft for Scream 4 during hiatus and make final deals with cast and directors after that.

If Scream 4 is as good as the first two films, I can not wait to see!

A trilogy? They should begin with making a good fourth strand.

Despite earlier reports that she would not do the film, Neve Campbell is ready to Scream again.

The actress is set to star in Scream 4, according to Variety. Campbell toplined the first three entries in the horror satire series. Courteney Cox and David Arquette will also reprise their roles for the sequel.

The trade adds that The Weinstein Co. is in talks with Wes Craven to come to direct.

Production will begin in March or April 2010.

In related news, Studio head Bob Weinstein issued the pronouncement: "I'm heading back to my franchise films." The plan on paper calls for a veritable blitzkrieg of sequels, many of them in 3-D.

The studio will partner with Disney for a fourth "Spy Kids" movie. Robert Rodriguez will write/direct and the film will be shot in 3-D.

Plans for "Halloween 3-D" also continue, with an October 2010 release targeted. "Hellraiser" and "Scanners" sequels are also in the offing for 3-D treatments, and returns to "Children of the Corn," "Short Circuit" and "An American Werewolf in London" are also planned.

the first one was decent. the second i thought was just terrible, and the third was good because they finally got off that partner-killer thing. hopefully the fourth will stick with that.

I don't know how I feel about this. Scream 3 pretty much summed everything up perfectly, there's no need to keep going. (Not like that matters in cinema anyway, but it's still true). I'd honestly rather see them remake the original trilogy with all out horror instead of goofy, spoof horror, just to see how it would work.

i think a remake will be a bad idea (and not because I'm against most remakes lol)

i got a feeling that Sidney will die in this one and poss either Dewey or Gale.

hope they dont go down the road of the Freddy films....

looking forward to it though :)

I enjoyed the first when i was in 6th grade but i haven't seen it since. I really didn't like the second and the 3rd i didn't for either. I'm sure i'll watch 4 though. Let's hope neve campbell doesn't look like she needs to cry in every scene though, that always annoyed me.

I couldn't find any other threads on this, so I created one.

Production to start in April/May 2010.

Supposed to be a new trilogy 4,5, and 6.

I'm interested to see how these turn out.

Any thoughts?

The NY Post caught up with Scream IV writer Kevin Williamson to ask specifically about the fate of Sidney Prescott (played in the previous three films by Neve Campbell) in the forthcoming sequel from Dimension Films. For those of you keeping track, Campbell had originally passed on the project and caused major turmoil for Williamson, who admitted on Twitter that he had big plans for her. Eventually Campbell came around, and now the fate of her character is in focus.

"The thing about 'Scream 4' is that there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can't promise anything," he told PopWrap about Sidney's role in the fourth film now that Neve will return. "There are a lot of moving pieces, so we'll see -- but if you're a 'Scream' fan, I think you're really going to like it."

The most interesting revelation is that Williamson has tapped into all sorts of horror subgenres for the forthcoming SCREAM IV.

"I've [included] manga comics, Asian ghost girl movies, there's some PG-13 horror movies in there, vampire movies, M. Night Shyamalan movies and torture porn movies, even though they've come and gone," he tells the site while also addressing the comedy in the film. ""You have to be careful because 'Scary Movie' spoofed these films, so one of the things I'm excited about with 'Scream 4' is that, while we do lampoon and send up the genre, [we] make it incredibly scary. That's first and foremost."

SCREAM IV was a hot commodity at the AFM this past week. The new film sees the return of cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, along with a group of new stars, who can hopefully stay alive long enough to figure out the new rules to this one-of-a-kind horror franchise.

Black Book Mag recently interviewed Neve Campbell, who plays Sidney Prescott in the Scream trilogy. She confirms early reports of a potential April 2010 start date, and that Wes Craven is returning to direct (our sources say it's a closed deal).

"I’m pretty sure at this stage that Wes [Craven] is back on board to direct and Kevin [Willamson] is definitely writing it...so it is going to be great."

Campbell will be joining David Arquette and Courteney Cox, along with a group of new stars, who can hopefully stay alive long enough to figure out the new rules to this one-of-a-kind horror franchise.

With Wes Craven, Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette all scheduled to return, writer Kevin Williamson is contracted not only for Scream 4, but also for Scream 5.

In an interview with IESB, the creator of the hit TV series The Vampire Diaries talked at length about returning to the franchise that help to reinvigorated the horror genre.

"What I have always liked about this movie versus the other horror films is that I feel like there are characters," says Williamson. "In other horror movies, you remember Michael Myers and you remember Jason. In our film, I think you remember Sydney Prescott because Sydney Prescott's the victim and she has lasted for all three of these movies. The fun of the film is that it's Sydney Prescott. That's the difference and you care about her. I want to write a story where you actually care about our characters and it's a plot that you watch them walk through. It's not all about the next kill. It's not all about slice and dice. I was watching Saw VI on Pay Per View the other night and I was like, 'This is really just going from one kill to the next, to the next.' It's fun, but I want to tell a story."

And when asked if he might consider killing off Sydney Prescott in the first ten minutes of the film, Williamson answered coyly, "The story has to start somewhere."

Hilarious. What did he go through on Cursed aside from helming a craptastic teenybopper Ginger Snaps ripoff that HDC's own Staci Layne declared the scariest movie of the year?

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Wes Craven divulged a bit more info concerning the plot, which in true Scream fashion is delightfully meta:

"There have been 10 years of no Ghostface, but there has been the movie-within-a-movie Stab. We have fun with the idea of endless sequels, or "sequelitis" as Kevin calls it in the script. Sid goes through these three horrendous things, and Stab was based on those horrible things. And then they've been taken by a studio and run into the ground in a series of sequels. She has been off by herself and living her own life, and she's even written a book that has gotten a lot of critical acclaim. She's kind of put her life back together in the course of these 10 years. But, certainly, there would be no Scream without Ghostface, so she has to confront him again, but now as a woman who has really come out the darkness of her past."

(via Empire Online, Collider, Filmshaft & Slashfilm)

Wes Craven and the Dimension Films team have started reaching out to young talent to join the cast of Scream 4.

Twilight’s Ashley Greene, Heroes’ Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin have all been offered roles, while Lake Bell is already in negotiations.

If they all sign, they’ll be joining returning regular stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, who are ready to show up, albeit in a slightly more limited capacity as they pass the torch on to the new cast.

Greene is wanted to play Jill, Campbell’s cousin and the heroine of the piece, while Panettiere would be her best pal, a big film nerd (always a requirement for the terminally self-aware slasher series). Culkin, meanwhile is being lined up as a guy competing for Greene’s love.

Bell, last seen in It’s Complicated, is likely to appear as a police officer who has a history with Campbell’s Sidney Prescott.

Director Craven and writer Kevin Williamson are apparently trying to keep the new script’s secrets away from the prying eyes of the Magical Internet, and part of the secrecy involves only giving actors and their agents the most basic character descriptions, according to the Heat Vision Blog.

The story is still unknown due to secrecy but the plan is for the film to “be seen as a passing of the baton to a new generation of slasher victims,” which emphasizes that, if nothing else, we can look forward to some of these young thespians getting hacked up.

Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven, who kicked off the series as writer and director, respectively, will resume their respective roles for this latest installment.

Here’s some of the other stuff we know about the film, or that has been widely reported:

* Scream 4 is being written concurrently with a script for a fifth film by Kevin Williamson.
* The movie will be set ten years later in Woodsboro, and is described as “an ensemble” which will introduce several new characters.
* Williamson has said that Scream 4 will reference manga comics, Asian ghost girl movies, PG-13 horror movies, vampire films, M. Night Shyamalan movies and even torture porn.

The shoot is planned to kick off this July in Michigan.

Scream 4 is set to open next year on April 15, 2011.

It’s been a tumultuous week for Scream 4, which recently began shooting. A few images and behind the scenes videos hit the internet — not earthshaking stuff, but probably not a good thing for a film that has tried very hard to remain mysterious.

And Lake Bell and Lauren Graham both dropped out. (Though Graham’s departure isn’t confirmed.)

Now there are three new names in the cast: Adam Brody, Marley Shelton and Erik Knudsen. One is a replacement for Lake Bell, and the other two are playing newly revealed roles.

THR has the casting info, and says that Marley Shelton (Planet Terror) is taking the role Lake Bell had been negotiating.

Meanwhile, Erik Knudsen (Jericho, Youth in Revolt, Scott Pilgrim vs the World) will play this film’s version of Jamie Kennedy’s character from the first couple films: he’s the kid who knows horror movies and cliches inside and out, and will be comic relief.

Adam Brody, meanwhile, will be “a cop recently graduated from college who was raised on the “CSI” TV series.” So it’s safe to guess we’ll be getting some more specific police procedural riffing in the movie, too.

Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette have all previously committed to reprise their respective roles in the fourth film.

The movie will be set ten years later in Woodsboro, and is described as “an ensemble” which will introduce several new characters. The new film will take place a decade later, a decade without the ghostface killer. But that doesn’t mean that movie-within-the-movie-series Stab has come to an end. Williamson has said that Scream 4 will reference manga comics, Asian ghost girl movies, PG-13 horror movies, vampire films, M. Night Shyamalan movies and even torture porn.

Here is information on the new characters in the new movie -

Beware of possible minor spoilers

You could assume things about the characters that list “NAME CAMEOS PREFERRED” judging from the previous films in the series.

* Emma Roberts will play Jill Kessler, “one of the film’s primary heroines,” a cousin to Neve Campbell’s character in the series. Described as “pretty in an ingenue way. Smart, strong. A little goofy, but she makes it sexy. Full of contradictions, but instantly likeable. Not a mean bone in her body. They’re not close, but Jill is Sidney’s cousin.”

* Hayden Panettiere will play Jill’s best friend, Kirby Reed — a nerdy film geek. Described as “Cute and quirky, was a tomboy until a year ago, now she’s alternative, cool and sexy. Jill’s best friend. She’s a pop culture and horror aficionado;”

* Rory Culkin will play Charlie Walker, a potential love interest for Jill. Here is the character description: “Messy cute. Friends with Jill, Trevor, Kirby, and Olivia. A little cocky, he likens himself to ‘Randy’ from Scream 1 without the nerd part. No such luck, he’s definitely a nerd. May or may not have a crush on Jill. He’d never admit it if he does;”

* Nico Tortorella will play Trevor Sheldon, described as: “Handsome high school jock, but quiet and intense, as though a secret hangs over his head.”

* Anthony Anderson has played a cop on Law and Order and The Shield, so I’m guessing he plays one of the two detective roles:

* DETECTIVE HOSS (MALE 30s-40s; any ethnicity) New school cop. College graduate raised on the CSI TV series. NAME CAMEOS PREFERRED;
* DETECTIVE PERKINS (MALE 30s-40s; any ethnicity) Old school cop. Cocky, bigoted, and snarky. NAME CAMEOS PREFERRED;

* 20-year-old California model turned actress Marielle Jaffe likely plays one of the new teens:

* OLIVIA MORRIS (17-18; any ethnicity) Sexy and hot. A fun girl who knows how to be bitchy without being a bitch. She finds a way to make every situation about her, but somehow does it in a charming way. Part of the Jill, Kirby, Charlie, Trevor friend group;
* BETTE (20s; any ethnicity) Sidney’s personal assistant. Type A who gets the job done. Secretly yearns for Sidney’s fame and fortune;
* REBECCA (17-18; any ethnicity) Cute, vain, over-achieving student at Woodsboro High School. Editor in Chief of the high school newspaper. She’s a future Gale Weathers.

Scream 4 will begin shooting in Michigan in June 2010, aiming for a April 15th 2011 release.

First look at the official teaser Trailer -

http://www.filmshaft.com/official-teaser-trailer-for-scream-4-is-now-online/

“I think it has echoes to the first [film],” says director Wes Craven. “There’s been a whole decade of horror films that in one way or another followed a certain pattern. Like you had torture porn, [and] a ton of remakes. The first [Scream] was very much observing where horror had been for the last 10 to 20 years. And this is very much looking at where horror has been for the last 10 years. There’s always somebody trying to figure out what the rules are to keep from getting killed.”
