I've been talking about it for 2 years..... but finally - by sometime next week ...
I'll finally have my library built.
I was going to wait until everything was 100% done and post pictures - but i'm too much like a little kid waiting for christmas right now.
The front room has been converted into a wall to wall - ceiling to floor library ... hardwood floor, track lighting, french doors ...
the only thing left to do is that it needs to be painted (the primer is on there now) and holes drilled for the adjustable shelving.
The guy who did this did a really nice job - the best bang for the $$$ he had to work with.
so i believe by the end of next week it will be complete.
at which point i load up the books - which will give me the sunroom back.
Once the sunroom is freed up - and the furniture is back in there and the dining room (it had hardwood put in as well) then i'm going to clean out the garage and convert it to a photo studio. this should be done by July.
And ... not that there is hardwood throughout the 1st floor ... I'm going to get the stairs and landing done in hardwood as well...
It's gonna be a busy summer.
anyway - by this time next week i'll have pics - for the 1 or 2 usual suspects that may be interested :D

Very nice. I've always wanted a personal library. At the moment my book fill up just one, rather large shelf. Still, more than most of my friends.
Can't way to see the pictures.

mee too ! :)
it wont look like a movie library - of some rich lawyer where all the books are leatherbound and uniform.
also the house is modern - so it couldnt be given the old dark wood look - because it would look silly - clashing with the rest of the house ..
everything will be painted a warm off-white colour. and once the books hit the shelves it will probably look more like a thrift store bookshelf room ...
but at least i'll know where to find what i want.

Oooh your very own library. That sounds nice, and there's nothing like doing work yourself. (I garden). It will be nice to see the finished project. What does your wife think about all of the rearranging?

she's ok with it ... especially since my buddy the contractor did such a nice job.
plus - she wants the sunroom back available again.
the final touch - of course - will be a big comfy leather lazy-boy chair to read in .. officially making me an old bastard. (up til then i'm just an honorary old bastard)

You should sample your chairs now. There are some out there that are better than Lay Z Boys. My dad has this chair. I don't know what it's called, but god is it comfy.

I'll finally have my library built.
The first step in making Canada's Fort Knox has been officially taken.
On a more serious note, how many books do you have now? Considering that you are an avid reader, I wont be surprised if it amounts to a few thousands, bordering on the 10K mark.
Would love to see the pics. Especially if I see some of my favorite writers in there. (which I am sure will be there)
There's nothing like a good, old-fashioned huge library with a big leather chair in the centre. Gotta love the serene atmosphere.

Your very own personal photo studio too! Busy summer but eh...by the time its all over, I can see a very satisfied and proud Urge standing in front of his home. :)
And yeah, it sounds like you are more excited than Mark during Christmas. I hope it all turns out to be wonderfully well. Eagerly waiting for the pics.

I'm so jealous! I always wanted to do this, can't wait to see the pics! :)
Though you should totally have a secret passage where you pull one of the books to open the door. :p

You totally have to do that!
When I get a house I want to do that to like half the rooms, though my husband will probably consign my hidden rooms to just a closet or something. :p

ah - it's too late now - it would have been tough anyway -
the way they do it is by making a series of enclosed cabinets and installing them .. it would have been a bit of a nightmare.
i'm still happy with it though.
the same guy has put crown molding in the family room and the dining room (just yesterday) and this week the painting of the dining room should be complete...
after everything is done ... we're getting the stairs and landing done in hardwood as well.
then we rest.

dining room is almost finished too .. should have pics by the end of the week (after i get my big ol' lazyboy chair)
