Jekyll and Hyde adaptations are like buses -- you wait years for one and then three come along at once.

First Guillermo del Toro announced plans to adapt Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novella, then Nicolas Winding Refn revealed his intention to shoot a modern-day version with Keanu Reeves in the dual roles.

Now Abel Ferrara is getting in on the act.

The Bad Lieutenant helmer will also contemporise the story, but instead cast two actors as Jekyll and Hyde, with Forest Whitaker and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson landing the schizophrenic gig.

According to Variety, the film will retain the premise of a doctor who invents a potion that unleashes his violent alter ego, but with Ferrara's own unique twist.

According to executive producer Luc Roeg, "The combination of such formidable talent in front of and behind the camera will turn this wonderful gothic story into a modern classic for a whole new generation."

50 Cent has been spilling the beans regarding his role in the forthcoming adaptation of 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde', confirming rumours that he will play the villainous Hyde part.

Speaking to MTV, Fiddy admitted "Yeah, I'm supposed to play Hyde... it's going to be intense."

As previously announced in Cannes, Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker will star opposite the rapper as Dr. Jekyll, while Abel Ferrara will direct the Robert Louis Stevenson adaptation, which will be set in modern times.

"He's an excellent director, so his creative ideas will definitely be an injective into what it's actually going to turn out to be" explained Mr Cent, who went on to tell MTV that Ferarra's work on 1992 film Bad Lieutenant was one of the main reasons for his landing the gig.

"It was amazing. So then you understand that the director we chose for this project is the kind of guy that has an eye for real cutting-edge, really in-your-face material."

Jekyll and Hyde will shoot at the tail-end of the summer, so expect to see it in cinemas early next year.

In a story on the various movies being prepared by rapper/actor 50 Cent and his Cheetah Vision Films, it has been reported that Warner Bros. will release the upcoming new version of JEKYLL AND HYDE in the U.S.

The movie will be directed by cinematic bad boy Abel Ferrara, who previously helmed another remake, BODY SNATCHERS, for Warners.

As was first revealed, Forest Whitaker will play Dr. Jekyll in the movie, with 50 Cent portraying Hyde, who terrorizes rich white people.

This latest update of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic chiller will roll after 50 Cent wraps the urban drama THE GUN, which shoots next month.
