A headless body lies completely wrapped in sacking and bound with tape at a popular nature spot. The grisly discovery, near an abandoned wheelbarrow, was made by two walkers yesterday at the edge of a lagoon.
One, who tried to drag the body from the water with two anglers, said: "The bundle was very heavy and the smell from it was terrible. At first we thought there might have been a dumped animal inside.
"But as the sacking was pulled away we realised it was a body. We could clearly see the chest which appeared hairy. There was a gaping hole on the top of the torso and it looked like the head had been hacked off. I couldn't see the whole body but I think part of the legs may have been cut off too."
It didn't seem like it was long enough to be a whole man's body." Yesterday forensic experts were combing the area known as the Blue Lagoon - a former quarry in Arlesey, Beds. Police said: "We have recovered the body and are treating the death as suspicious."
The same police unit probed the killing and dismembering of kitchen salesman Jeffrey Howe, 49, whose body parts were scattered across two counties. Two people have been charged with his murder but officers say there is nothing to link the two killings
