Ed Gein Links:
www.rotten.com/library/bio/crime/serial-killers/ed-gein
www.carpenoctem.tv/killers/gein.html
www.crimelibrary.com/gein/geinmain.htm
These are the three best links I'm aware of Re: Ed Gein... some of them do have some varying information, but use your best judgement and your own research. With these, you should be able to get the best idea of the facts, then go from there.
Just remember that when a film has a tagline including the words "Based on/Inspired by actual events" it infers "loosely based on."
Anyways, it's purported that Tobe Hooper, Co-writer/Director Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), says in the Directors commentary for the original that he had no idea who Ed Gein was or and inkling of the acts he committed until after the film was made. Though I only heard this on an IMDb messageboard post for the film (Either on the boards for the Original or New one, not sure), so I'm uncertain as to it's accuracy since I haven't seen the film with the directors commentary. I would love to, but no tengo dinero.
Your Friendly Minister...

TheHalk must be typing like that on purpose. Even mentally impaired 14-year olds can spell better than that. Hell, I think my 5-year old nephew could type more coherent sentences than the majority of his posts.

Ed Gein is my favorite serial killer.
Anyone read "Deranged" by, Harold Schechter? It's about Albert Fish, he is more messed up then Ed.
His book "Deviant" is about Ed Gein.

well, the price on the back of "Deranged" is $14 (it must of been cheaper then that when I bought it. The sticker must be off of it because that's a little too much for me to had bought it then) and 241 pages. It's larger then a normal paperback.

That would be the great Steve Railsback.
Amazingly, in 7 pages, I managed to learn nothing about Ed Gein(or Gien, if you prefer it the way the OP spells it).
Read the original press clippings my dad had saved about the case. It caused quite a stir, back in the day. The most interesting thing I had noted in the stories, was how absolutely rattled the cop was, who initially investigated Gein's home(Gein was off having dinner at a neighbor's house). He entered thru the kitchen, and was greeted by the sight of bowls(made from human skulls) filled with lips, sexual organs, and various other goodies. Further in, is where he found the "arm" chair, human skin lampshade and Ed's sex change outfit.
He might have gone a lot further into his career, but his last victim wrote his name down in a sales ledger, just before he shot her.

Ed gein was a maniac i watched two movies about him one had the guy that played Jason voorhees that one sucked it went nothing with the true story, it was like friday the 13th ed gein style. But the 2000 version also called in the light of the moon will give you a good idea of just how sick this fella was.
